Chapter 228 - 226: Jealousy

Chapter 228: Chapter 226: Jealousy

Jin Han gave a sly smile and was about to speak when a disturbance erupted at the Outer Ring entrance; he raised an eyebrow and said, "Here it comes."

Su Mo turned to look, and collided right into those deep blue, shimmering phoenix eyes.

In the crowd, his gaze immediately fixed on her.

Su Mo smiled at him, and the man withdrew his gaze, striding past without a sideways glance.

Undisturbed by being ignored, she remained cheerful, but Zhao Changsheng beside her was not pleased. She started to disparage Lu Chen to Su Mo, arms around her shoulders, "Momo, what’s so good about him?"

"Probably because he’s quite handsome," Su Mo answered noncommittally.

Handsome? Zhao Changsheng turned back to look at Lu Chen, and she had to admit, he truly lived up to that description. The military uniform on his tall, upright figure seemed tailor-made, his bearing naturally that of a leader, and that stern face along with the halo of dazzling silver hair under the sun were indeed hard to ignore.

Zhao Changsheng pursed her lips, feeling a sourness inside.

The man stepped up to the podium and remained silent; it was a soldier beside him who spoke through a megaphone, "In the coming week we will head to Sheng City to gather supplies. The journey will be long, but the reward will double. Upon return, all fallen members of the troop can receive compensation according to their level."

"The rewards are quite good, but what is the actual situation in Sheng City?" someone asked.

"Zombie tide dense, exact numbers uncountable," the soldier replied.

Immediately, a murmur ran through the crowd until the soldier spoke again, "Admiral Lu will lead us. If anyone wishes to drop out midway, you will forfeit all rewards."

Lu Chen just stood there, his commanding presence radiating outwards, his aura of a Level 5 Superpower User steady, only the leaders of the three troops and some fierce superpower users barely managing to hold their ground.

After a brief discussion, not a single person dropped out.

In this era, one would starve just the same without fighting; they had no reason to refuse a double reward.

Su Mo stared unblinkingly at Lu Chen from below, and perhaps affected by her intense gaze, the man glanced at her, his facial features slightly relaxing.

"How has he lost weight?" Su Mo scrutinized him from head to toe, then expressed her dissatisfaction.

She had fed him so well before.

"Recently recovered from a serious illness," Li Qian said softly.

The phrase was ambiguous, Su Mo smiled, and after the soldier had finished reading all the notices, everyone returned to their teams, ready to drive out.

Jin Han’s group drove off in three vehicles, which, with the three of them, were perfectly filled.

Mo Yan then came over; Su Mo paused her step towards the vehicle, her expression distant, "Is there something you need?"

"Welcome back. If you need anything in the future, come find me," Mo Yan moved his lips and finally managed to say just that.

As Su Mo caught the hint of pity on his face, she felt somewhat perplexed, and dismissively waved her hand, "Well, thank you for your kindness."

From a distance, the man on the podium’s eyes flashed coldly; he turned and said a few words to the soldier beside him, then left.

As Mo Yan left, just as Su Mo was about to get into the vehicle, the soldier who had been speaking earlier blocked her path, "Miss Su, Admiral Lu requests you."

Su Mo held back her step, a smile flashing in her eyes. She turned to Zhao Changsheng who was already in the vehicle and said, "See you later then."

"Momo," Zhao Changsheng wanted to say more but was pulled back by Li Qian; she could only mutter grumpily, "Don’t let yourself be kidnapped so easily again."

Under the soldier’s guidance, she quickly arrived at the frontmost vehicle, Su Mo looked it over, her heart softening a bit.

He hadn’t changed vehicles; it was still the same modified military vehicle that had been with them through their journey.

The vehicle had only one person at the driver’s seat. Su Mo thought for a moment, then opened the passenger door and got in.

The windows were closed inside, and the air was thick with smoke, causing her to blink and cough. Quickly, she rolled down the window. "Admiral Lu smokes now?"

In his hand, Lu Chen was about to put a cigarette in his mouth, but he glanced at her coldly for a long moment before finally snuffing out the cigarette and starting the car to drive through the gate.

As the wind poured in, Su Mo felt much better. When the air in the car had mostly cleared, she rolled up the window. Winter was near, and the morning breeze was peculiarly cold.

She leaned back in her seat, turned her body, and watched the man closely.

His gaze was so intense it was hard to ignore. Lu Chen shot her a chilling look. "What are you staring at me for?"

"The famous Admiral Lu is actually quite handsome," Su Mo said with a grin.

"..."

Normally, that would have angered him early on, but the man just couldn’t muster any anger and silently drove on like a great icy mountain.

Su Mo chuckled softly and decided it was best to look away.

But Lu Chen’s mind wasn’t really on driving anymore; he irritably tugged at the button tied around his neck.

"Admiral Lu, why did you ask me to come here?" Su Mo leaned on the backrest and looked ahead as she asked.

Lu Chen ignored her, but the coldness in his eyes showed he was in a very bad mood.

Su Mo felt snubbed and was somewhat puzzled by his strangely quirky temper since losing his memory.

She simply started enjoying the view outside the window—yes, about a dozen zombies chasing after the car.

In the backseat, several guns lay scattered. Su Mo turned her head, sticking her bottom out as she reached over to grab them. She shook one of the guns at him. "Mind if I play with these?"

The man still didn’t respond, but the window next to her opened. Holding back her laughter, Su Mo casually fired a few shots through the iron bars, each bullet precisely hitting the zombies in the head.

Lu Chen glanced over and said indifferently, "Nice shooting."

"I think so too, so what were you angry about just now?" Su Mo asked, nodding her head.

Suddenly, the car braked hard, causing Su Mo nearly to fly off her seat. She grabbed the handle, unsettled. "Why did you brake all of a sudden!"

The man accelerated again without looking away. "My foot slipped."

"..." Su Mo rolled her eyes silently. She looked back; probably those following them were quite startled as well.

The car fell into silence, and as Su Mo was dozing off, Lu Chen spoke in a cold tone. "What is your relationship with him?"

"Who?" Su Mo yawned lazily as she asked the question; there was no response, but the temperature in the car dramatically dropped.

Feeling the chill, she instantly sobered up a bit and turned to examine Lu Chen, her tone probing. "Are you talking about Mo Yan?"

The temperature dropped even further at the mention of that name.

Su Mo laughed. "What does this have to do with you, Admiral Lu?"

Lu Chen turned his head, his eyes fixed on her.

Su Mo’s heart trembled, then she said, "I’m quite curious, Admiral Lu, what did you forget?"

The man braked again, his voice ice-cold. "Get out."

Su Mo tossed the gun into the backseat and nonchalantly opened the car door to get out.

The convoy following Lu Chen’s car nearly collided into one another, and while everyone was too scared to speak out, they all turned their gazes towards Su Mo.
