The Chef Rules the Last Days
Chapter 225 - 223: The Cook

Chapter 225: Chapter 223: The Cook

"Oh, I’ll go test my superpower first, and you guys check if there are any suitable tasks for us to take on tomorrow," Su Mo seemed to recall something, nodded to him, patted Zhao Changsheng, then turned and took the elevator upstairs.

Jin Han nudged Zhao Changsheng’s shoulder and asked in a low voice, "What’s going on? Isn’t she one of the people Command Jiang ordered to maintain silence about? The soldiers who came to notify us even said it was out of fear that Admiral Lu would be saddened."

"You’re the one who just died. Go look at the tasks. Since Momo wants to go on a mission, she’ll go out with your people tomorrow," Zhao Changsheng rolled his eyes at him.

When Su Mo came out of the testing room, her Identity Card had reached level 4, and the testing personnel informed her that she would have the qualifications to attend banquets.

After all, as a female level 4 superpower user, she had enough capital.

A smile spread across her face; she couldn’t wait to see Jiang Hai’s expression—she wondered if he had noticed her return.

Upon descending, Jin Han simply mentioned that they’d already accepted tomorrow’s task. He looked a bit sly, but Su Mo didn’t mind; as long as there was a task, it was fine.

"Let’s go," Su Mo was about to leave the task dispatch hall when suddenly, the giant electronic screen that had been broadcasting the banquet was switched, and the few lines of text instantly captivated her attention.

"Lu Chen looking for a chef?" Su Mo’s lips quirked up, "Looks like he hasn’t lost his memories completely."

Zhao Changsheng looked at her puzzled, "Are you going, Momo? Ever since his memory loss, he’s become estranged from his kin."

Li Qian, however, said warmly, "Being estranged from kin is also selective with people."

Zhao Changsheng fell silent.

Su Mo laughed, "I’m going to sign up."

She had just reached the window and found it was already packed with people wanting to sign up, the line was endless.

By the time it was her turn, she was several hundred numbers behind.

Su Mo couldn’t help but find it amusing; it seemed like all the women from the Second Ring were here.

"Please fill in your strengths carefully, this is very important for whether you will be selected or not," the person at the window seemed to have nearly worn out their mouth with this sentence.

She left her name as the last one, but didn’t write a single word in the strengths column; after putting down the pen, she left with a flourish.

Inside the Jiang Residence’s study, people from the Lu Family and Elder Jiang were gathered.

"How are you considering it?" Lu Youwei took a sip of tea, "I marry Lu Yuan to Lu Chen, and I will provide the progenitor; a win-win cooperation between our two families?"

Lu Yuan shyly looked at Lu Chen with a blush on her face; see, in the end, he would still be hers.

Lu Chen, however, showed no reaction, only absently looking at the bracelet in his hand, his fingertip caressing the red beans on it.

Lu Jin stood there with a smile on his lips, "I think this is a solution."

Jiang Hai actually had already agreed to this marriage. As long as he had the information in his hands, slowly annexing Sheng City was only a matter of time. But for appearances’ sake, he still looked at Lu Chen seriously, "Lu Chen, what do you say?"

The man withdrew his gaze and stood from the chair, "I have matters to attend to."

"Brother Lu," Lu Yuan tried to grab him but was held back by Lu Youwei’s strong grip; she could only watch helplessly as he left.

"Lu Chen!" Jiang Hai’s hand heavily struck the table, he turned to Lu Youwei and suppressed his emotions, "I’ll accept this marriage on his behalf! It will be announced along with the report at the banquet later."

"It’s for the best," Lu Youwei said as he took his daughter and left with his entourage.

When Lu Chen returned to the villa, Hu Ding was already waiting for him in the living room with documents, "Admiral Lu, what are you doing hiring a chef for no reason? There’s such a thick stack here I can’t even finish it."

He had a different name for him every day.

Lu Chen took no notice of him and took the documents, sitting down on the sofa to read. He went through the hundreds of pages without missing a single word until night fell and Hu Ding started dozing off before Lu Chen woke him up.

"Su Mo?"

"Hmm?" Hu Ding, startled, sat up from the couch. "What?"

Lu Chen tossed the last page of the document onto the table, his finger pointing at the name. "Call her over."

"You," Hu Ding said in surprise, then sighed. "Fine, I’ll call her, okay? She is indeed your girlfriend. You don’t need to beat around the bush with me anymore. Commander Jiang told me not to say anything."

Lu Chen looked at him, his gaze unreadable. "I’m just hiring a chef, no need to get worked up."

"You..." Hu Ding admitted defeat, quietly gathering the materials on the table. "Fine, but don’t forget about tomorrow’s mission. We have to make a trip to Sheng City."

Lu Chen: "Is the origin’s location confirmed?"

Hu Ding replied: "Roughly confirmed. This operation is officially a material hunt. We’ve suffered heavy losses among our elites, so we can only summon external superpower users for support. If the laboratory’s research has made a breakthrough, it’d be best if we could bring back the origin. If we can’t, you’ll have to enter into a marriage alliance with the Lu Family."

At this point, Hu Ding’s expression turned gossipy. "If the information is wrong, you’re not really planning to marry that spoiled young lady, are you?"

Lu Chen stood up, radiating a cold aura. "What do you think?"

Glanced at by his icy, emotionless eyes, Hu Ding hurriedly shrugged his shoulders and stood up. "I think there will be someone causing a scene at the banquet. I’m leaving now."

He carefully skirted around him and bolted out the door as soon as he opened it.

Lu Chen stood there alone, and Hu Ding’s words just now flashed through his mind. Somehow, he suddenly curved the corners of his mouth into a smile, his eyes delighted.

Back in her apartment, Su Mo quickly dealt with a meal and then nestled into the couch to open up her panel. She remembered that the system had given her a tea recipe for healing internal injuries, as well as a Youthful Appearance ginger tea that it had given her a long time ago.

She brought up the tea recipe, one called Zijuan Tea, true to its name, it brewed to a purple color.

But the name sounded so special, it didn’t seem like something that would be found around here. The ingredients for ginger tea were quite common though, a combination of ginger and black tea.

After contemplating for a while, Su Mo stood up and decided to take a stroll in the streets.

Just as she opened the door, there stood a familiar face she didn’t want to see.

"Lu Jin?" Su Mo frowned. "What are you here for?"

Her clearly disdainful expression made the man’s face darken, but he controlled his temper. "A week from now, I’ll take you to the banquet."

That made Su Mo even more puzzled. "I can go by myself."

Lu Jin looked at her, emotion in his dark eyes. "I’ll wait for you to arrive."

Another inexplicable remark. Seeing him leave right after speaking, Su Mo was full of doubts.

Closing the door to her apartment, she also followed suit and took the elevator down.

On the street, bustling with people, Su Mo walked around for a long time and discovered the old ironworks had changed owners. The place was now run by a young man she didn’t recognize.

She walked in to find the place lively, with two helpers around. Seeing her enter, someone immediately greeted her. "Miss, may I help you with something?"

"Can you process mutant beast skins and furs?" Su Mo asked politely.

"That depends on the type. What kind of mutant beast is it? What do you need to be done?"

Su Mo: "A gorilla, about over a meter tall, might be a bit difficult to handle."

The person who had been working the forge stopped and turned around to say, "As long as you can pay the price, I’ll do it."
