Chapter 218: Chapter 216: Su Mo’s Promotion

Su Mo stood next to the group she had just been talking to, her face breaking into a smile, "Do you mind if I join you?"

"Of... of course not."

They made room for her as Su Mo sat down, cross-legged. Her voice was soft, "What were you just saying about Admiral Lu? I didn’t catch it."

The group exchanged glances, involuntarily swallowing, but they honestly repeated it.

"It’s said that Jiang Residence is already preparing for Admiral Lu to become the second-in-command. Elder Jiang is getting older and plans to delegate most of the management of the base to him."

Sitting there, Su Mo felt her heartbeat slow, "Did he agree?"

"We’re not sure, but it’s said that a Superpower User banquet is going to be held in a week, and everyone is guessing that the news will be announced then."

Su Mo stood up, "Thank you."

When she stepped out of that circle, her body shook in a way she didn’t even notice herself, even though he had promised her.

When Geng Jiang passed by her, his eyes carried deep hostility.

As if she hadn’t seen it, Su Mo just asked indifferently, "Where is the bathroom?"

Geng Jiang paused, then replied with a hint of amusement, "Third floor."

Su Mo silently climbed the steps and made her way upstairs.

By the time Lu Jin had suppressed the anger in his heart and looked up again, she had disappeared. He immediately stood up, surveyed the area, and didn’t see her anywhere. His expression turned icy, a hint of urgency colored the corners of his eyes, and his voice spread throughout the entire first-floor hall, "Where is she?"

The Superpower Users resting here today had a hard time, having encountered such a violent figure. Except for the high-level users who were slightly more comfortable, the lower-leveled ones felt like they needed to flatten themselves to the ground.

It wasn’t until Geng Jiang spoke that he strode upstairs.

On the third floor, the corpses of zombies were piled up.

All the zombies of the department store were here.

Su Mo crossed over the bodies without any internal reaction and went into the restroom to use the toilet.

Afterward, she leaned against the dimly lit partition, her mind in turmoil. These people had no reason to lie, but she couldn’t understand why Lu Chen would choose to accept Jiang Residence.

She knew in her heart that she trusted Lu Chen very much, perhaps there was some unforeseen event involved.

But the data from Southern Island had already been handed over to him. What kind of reason would make him take over Jiang Residence? Su Mo sighed, planning to ask him thoroughly when she got back.

Clutching the doorknob, she was about to go out, but the extremely faint sounds outside made her alertness instantly peak.

It was the sound of something dragging on the floor.

Her palms broke out in a fine sweat. When she had come in, there had only been piles of bodies—could it be one had been missed?

"Pat, pat"

It was coming in!

The Tang Blade appeared in Su Mo’s hand as she stepped onto the toilet. Through the gap beneath, she could just make out a strange shadow moving.

It wasn’t a human, not a human shadow—this had to be a zombie’s.

She held her breath, slowly standing up from the toilet. The height of the toilet partition was just right for her to see the scene outside.

She only caught a glimpse before immediately retreating back.

Her mind quickly revisited some scenes, ultimately fixating on the monster from Happiness District with limbs all stitched together. This was a smaller version of that giant creature, obviously not yet fully formed.

Right, all these corpses piled up together might have accidentally fed into the creation of this thing, which even a Spiritual Superpower User might not detect.

Su Mo roughly estimated her own strength, waiting for the monster to move further inside. She should be able to make a run for it.

Her brain was working overdrive, but the footsteps ceased.

The restroom was eerily quiet.

Suddenly, a rancid odor wafted from the partition. Su Mo turned her head slightly, and there on the partition were countless rotting hands and a disgustingly pale head.

"Damn it!"

After half a second of her brain freezing, she kicked open the door and dashed out.

She ran to the stairwell, where she collided with the man coming up, without even having the time to brake.

They rolled down the stairs together, Lu Jin instinctively pressing her head into his chest, enveloping her in a tight protective embrace.

Finally, he came to a stop against the wall.

"Quick, run!" Su Mo didn’t have time to think, she grabbed him and sprinted downstairs, urgently saying, "We can’t handle this monster!"

Lu Jin was pulled along by her, the delicate fingers on his wrist momentarily distracting him.

A rumbling noise came from the third floor.

Su Mo had just reached the second floor when she let go of his hand and gripped her Tang Blade, ready for whatever was coming from above.

"What’s going on here?"

"Is there something upstairs?"

The people who were already on the second floor immediately stood up.

Without turning her head, Su Mo panted, "That’s for you to tell me, there’s an oversight upstairs that you didn’t even notice!"

"That can’t be, our Spiritual Superpower Users have checked."

"Clack clack"

Another series of urgent noises ensued.

At this, everyone around consciously unleashed their superpowers.

What came into view were countless palms, several sizes smaller than the one from Yan City, which Lu Jin immediately recognized, saying decisively, "Capture it alive."

Su Mo’s eyes widened as she turned, "Are you serious?"

"Capture it alive," he looked down and said to her emphatically, word by word.

Su Mo really didn’t know what he was getting at. She backed away a couple of steps, her tone cold, "Then you guys handle it by yourselves."

As the people from the first floor came up, Su Mo didn’t want to get involved and went downstairs by herself.

Only when her figure had disappeared did the dark second floor erupt into intense action.

Su Mo crouched in a corner on the first floor, taking out the Level 4 speed Crystal Stone and began to absorb its energy after examining it for a while.

A powerhouse Crystal Stone was different; the near-full Energy Group in her abdomen visibly began to swell at a rapid pace.

But the process was long, so long that the fight above had ended and the monster was successfully restrained before she awoke.

When Lu Jin came down, he saw her motionless, not disturbing her, but gesturing to the others to follow quietly as he walked over to her.

The lobby on the first floor was unusually quiet, apart from the roars of the monster being dragged away.

When daylight arrived, Su Mo leveled up.

The dazzling light emitted from her body illuminated the entire lobby.

With Lu Jin by her side, no one dared to disrupt her advancement.

Finally, when Geng Jiang came to urge them to set off, Lu Jin, with an unexpected tenderness, scooped her up in his arms and placed her in the car.

Geng Jiang’s fists tightened and tightened again, with a strong fighting spirit in his eyes. It seemed that the woman who could compete with him was not to be underestimated.

The leap from Level 3 to Level 4 had taken her a long time.

Su Mo was enveloped in a radiant glow, the golden light resembling something holy, causing Lu Jin’s hand to instinctively caress her face as he softly, and with affection murmured, "Miser."

The gates of the B City base slowly opened.
