The Chef Rules the Last Days -
Chapter 215 - 213: Climbing
Chapter 215: Chapter 213: Climbing
The Mutant Frog’s body was not far from her; she held her breath, concentrated, and clenched the Tang Blade, her back slightly arched as she waited for an opportunity.
Finally, a huge chunk of rock fell towards Lu Jin’s head; he stood there motionless until the flesh-colored Long Tongue attacked again, and only then did he dodge to the side.
The massive rock successfully pinned down its Long Tongue. The Mutant Frog struggled frantically; within three seconds, it would lift the rock off.
Seeing this, Su Mo knew it was the best opportunity. She moved faster than Lu Jin, jumping down from the treetop and charging at the frog; her blade cleanly stabbed into the Mutant Frog’s eye socket.
The eyeball burst with a pop, as she pierced through it into its brain.
As the saying goes, the eyes are the windows to the soul.
Su Mo pulled out the blade, and with it came a bunch of disgusting mucus and a Crystal Stone.
It was a Level 4 Crystal Stone, Su Mo swallowed her saliva, a speed type, she really wanted to eat it.
This thought flashed by, and she picked up the Crystal Stone and tossed it to Lu Jin, "Yours."
The man caught it with one hand, holding the Crystal Stone in the sunlight. Milky white with a layer of golden light, Level 4 was rare indeed, but he had also noticed the desire in her eyes just now; that little expression made him bite her again, licking his lips, "Want it?"
With that wicked expression, Su Mo decisively shook her head, "No, let’s climb up before it gets dark."
She vaulted over him; the cliff had many pits caused by the frog, which in some way increased the difficulty of climbing.
She had just placed her hand on the rock to test if it could bear her weight when she was hit on the head by the flying Crystal Stone, "Ouch!"
She covered her head, turned with an irritated expression, "What are you crazy about now!"
Lu Jin’s eyes twinkled with laughter, but his lips returned to an unremarkable straight line, "I don’t want it anymore."
Only then did Su Mo look down and focus on the Crystal Stone that had fallen into the crevice. Startled, she looked up, then her expression chilled. She picked up the Crystal Stone, walked over to Lu Jin, and handed it back to him, "I don’t want it, take it back."
She always felt he had changed, and these subtle changes were definitely not what she wanted.
However, this act undoubtedly angered Lu Jin. His expression turned terribly somber, and his aura mixed with a hint of fury, "Is it because it’s Lu Chen’s, you want it?"
Su Mo frowned and quietly stepped back two steps, "You’re not the same as him."
"Su, Mo," Lu Jin raised his eyes, his dark pupils tinged with bloodlust, "Why do you always make me angry?"
The immense pressure on her neck choked her instantly.
The voices inside him roared crazily, ’Kill her! Kill her!’ The anger almost burned away his reason.
Su Mo, gripping the blade, didn’t hesitate to swipe at his neck, but Lu Jin’s empty hand instantly grabbed her wrist holding the blade.
This time, see if you still have a hand! Su Mo gathered all her strength, holding her breath, and her left hand brought out a Flat Pot, smashing it down hard on his head.
"Bang!"
The crisp sound echoed.
The black Flat Pot stayed on Lu Jin’s head, the oozing blood staining his forehead red, slowly clearing his eyes.
Touching her pale face, Lu Jin’s hand loosened.
Su Mo was flung to the ground, the sharp stones painfully scraping her butt as she covered her neck, gasping desperately like a fish dying of thirst.
Lu Jin removed the Flat Pot from his head, watching the ashen-faced Su Mo on the ground, his restlessness gradually calming. He shifted his throat, then finally, without a word, lowered his gaze and took some medicine from his Space and stuffed it into his mouth.
The Crystal Stone, along with the pot, was tossed in front of Su Mo again. She only heard his terribly quiet voice, "If you don’t want it, throw it away."
Su Mo pursed her lips and eventually picked up the Crystal Stone from the ground, put away the Flat Pot, and watched him casually wipe the blood off his forehead before his hand grasped the rocks.
"Fine, consider us even with that gash on his head." She clutched her neck, stood up, and followed his pace, for under someone’s roof, one must bow.
The towering cliffs reached into the clouds, and she didn’t know when their climb would end.
Bok Choy couldn’t just be prepared out of nothing, Su Mo sighed. Had she known, she would have packed some too, shoving everything into Lu Chen’s Space.
She gripped the edges of the rocks, following the marks left by Lu Jin, inching her way upward.
From time to time, small stones fell, her eyes filled with fine sand that caused tears to stream nonstop, but Su Mo dared not free a hand to wipe her eyes.
Without any safety measures, climbing the cliff still required utmost caution. She hadn’t seen Lu Chen yet, and she couldn’t afford to die.
Luckily, there was a fir tree growing vertically out from the cliff ahead.
Looking at Lu Jin, not knowing whether he did it on purpose, he paused for a while before climbing up; only after he had moved up a few steps did she hug the trunk with one hand and quickly rub her eyes.
The sand was rubbed out with her tears, and Su Mo’s vision finally cleared, much to her relief.
But she wondered if she was just unlucky around Lu Jin, as the stout fir tree snapped suddenly without giving her any chance to react.
In her panic, she tried to grasp the nearby rocks, but a large hand from above beat her to it, pulling her up.
Su Mo met those mocking, dark eyes.
She was very light, so light that Lu Jin could easily pull her up with one hand.
Once she had secured herself on the rock face, he let go and continued climbing upward.
Su Mo bit her lip, and eventually managed to say, "Thank you."
Her voice sounded distant, making the sarcastic look in Lu Jin’s eyes even more intense.
Fortunately, there were no more mishaps afterward. Just as dusk was setting in, Su Mo reached the top of the cliff.
Her hands felt as heavy as if they were filled with lead, weighing thousands of pounds, and even lifting them was difficult.
Her fingertips and palms were covered with blood marks and blisters, yet she dared not drink Biluochun Tea. After treating Lu Chen’s rib injuries earlier, he definitely had his suspicions.
At that moment, she couldn’t afford any further slips.
She collapsed at the edge of the cliff, her stamina drained to the limit, but the person ahead seemed unaffected and continued moving forward.
She mustered her strength to stand up and keep up with his steps.
This was also a forest, but what was unusual was that Su Mo noticed an unusually large animal trap hidden among the bushes.
"Lu Jin, there are people here," Su Mo couldn’t help calling out his name.
The tall figure ahead immediately stopped, "Find a place to spend the night."
"Hmm," Su Mo nodded, she couldn’t disagree.
Finding caves was something Lu Jin and Lu Chen were both naturally good at.
However, they ended up in a giant, hollow, ancient tree.
Unlike the tropical rainforests that have many caves, this area mostly consisted of flat, cleared forests with groups of stout trees scattered throughout.
