Chapter 195: Chapter 193: Assault

However, the rustling sound by her ear made her reflexively leap up and away from the ground, landing on the other side. At the spot where she had just stood, a pair of black arms, strikingly similar to those of a human, smashed into it, turning the rocks below into chunks.

"Damn it! Its companion has come!" Su Mo drew her sword and charged at the giant gorilla.

Above their heads were angry roaring mutant gorillas, dropping down from the crevices at the top of the rocks.

For a moment, gunfire was nonstop. Su Mo had no time to look behind her as she and Jianxiong each were entangled by a giant gorilla’s movements.

Their bodies were extremely agile when climbing the walls, but once they landed on the ground, their long arms lost their advantage and became a hindrance to their speed. Su Mo dodged the cumbersome forearms again, realizing something.

Each time it tried to climb back onto the rocks, Su Mo would rapidly activate her superpower to intercept it. Every time her sword nearly struck its chest, the gorilla would reflexively turn its back to dodge.

After several more attempts, Su Mo began to sense something was amiss; that was the only spot not protected by black fur.

To test her theory, she deliberately fell to the ground with her sword pressed to her side.

The mutant black gorilla, not very intelligent and already enraged, swung its long arm at her.

Seizing the right moment, when the gorilla raised its arm to strike, Su Mo grabbed her sword and thrust it directly into its chest. As she raised her gaze, she saw the only tuft of white hair protruding at the base of its neck.

The weak point! Su Mo pulled out the sword and, using the gorilla’s pain, thrust it quickly towards its jaw. The tip of the blade emerged from the top of its head, bringing a layer of brain matter with it.

A pair of strong forelimbs collapsed to the ground with the death of the body.

Catching her breath, she pulled out the sword, a few drops of blood splattered on her face. Turning back, she saw Lu Chen pulling a blood-stained Crystal Stone from another gorilla’s jaw with his bare hands.

"Hit the jaw! The weak point is the jaw!" she shouted, as she picked up her sword and rushed into the melee to help.

Already, many had been injured, and the soldiers’ bullets were rapidly depleting. Not far from her, a soldier was cornered against the rock wall, his comrades overwhelmed and unable to assist.

She immediately sped up to reach him. Just as the gorilla was about to crush the soldier, she dropped from above. She stood before the soldier with the handle of her sword in front of her chest, the impact causing her hands to go numb.

Dodging another swipe of its claws, she grabbed the soldier by the collar, leaped up, pushed off the rock wall with her back foot, and threw him out of the encirclement. Her own lower legs were then caught by a black long arm and she fell back to the ground.

Its hand was full of long hair, making it impossible for Su Mo’s knife to slice through. She could only be dragged along, her back scraping painfully against the rock surface.

Lu Chen’s entire palm was enveloped by ice, forming an ice spike. Seeing Su Mo in danger, he opened his aura fully and ran towards her.

Just as Su Mo was thinking of a way to escape, one gorilla was dragging her by the foot and another was standing by her head, its mouth wide open, nostrils exhaling hot breath as it lunged to bite her.

She was about to use her sword to fend it off when an arm wrapped with an ice spike pierced through the gorilla’s jaw and out the top of its head.

The massive body collapsed with a thunderous fall.

The gorilla that had been pulling her leg saw this and immediately tried to escape up the rock wall, but Lu Chen didn’t give it a chance. Ice and frost spread instantly across the rock surface. With no foothold on the slippery wall, the gorilla hadn’t even climbed up before the man cleanly pierced through its jaw and extracted the Crystal Stone.

Su Mo got up from the ground and, catching his inquiring glance, immediately shook her head, "I’m okay, go help."

Lu Chen nodded and followed her into the chaotic crowd.

A green vine, controlled by a superpower user, happened to bind a great gorilla, but the rapidly cracking vine could only hold for a few seconds. Seeing this, Su Mo ran over and stabbed through its head with one strike.

Jianxiong, towering three meters tall, was several times taller than the gorillas. Once he knew the weak point, he simply grabbed one by the throat. Spikes grew from his knuckles as he clenched his fist and smashed the creature’s jaw, shattering its head.

Sun Cheng’s Fire Power was completely ineffective against the mutant gorillas’ fur. Helpless, he could only try to dodge and wait for support from Su Mo and the others.

The people, knowing the weakness, finally killed more than thirty gorillas with the cooperation of the spiritual superpower user.

Everyone collapsed on the ground, the stream tainted with the blood from the corpses, carrying the blood outward.

Lu Chen looked somberly at the pile of bodies, "Clean yourselves up in ten minutes, and immediately set off."

The intense smell of blood would inevitably attract more mutant creatures; they all knew they couldn’t stay in this place for long.

Jianxiong didn’t suffer much damage, so he took the time to extract all the Crystal Stones from the gorillas’ brains, which appeared to be Level 2. He handed the Crystal Stones to Su Mo, telling her to keep them safe.

Su Mo herself was covered in quite a bit of blood. If it were not for the cold weather and the numerous layers she wore, she would have definitely been bleeding from her back. She hurriedly cleaned herself up, and after securing the Crystal Stones, she set her sights on the pelts and fur.

This was the first time she had encountered something so sturdy, capable of resisting bullets. She surreptitiously stashed ten corpses into her System Bag.

After packing their bags, the group quickly followed Lu Chen, crawling out from another side of the crevice in the rocks.

After emerging, Jianxiong did a quick headcount. One superpower user had died, along with ten soldiers.

The quick depletion of their numbers cast a heavy atmosphere, and everyone’s footsteps felt leaden.

Lu Jin, who had lost many men to robe-like creatures and Cannibal Flowers, finally found a natural rock cave following his own spiritual superpower user.

"Just go through the gap," his subordinate reported.

Lu Jin’s eyes seemed to darken even more than the night, and the scent of blood in the air almost sent him into a rage, "Let’s go!"

Without a second thought, he turned and ran.

"Roar!" A tiger’s roar echoed through the entire sky.

...

The sky had finally lightened somewhat. After traveling all night, even those with strong physiques were feeling worn out, and Lu Chen once again called for a rest.

Up ahead was a vast black river, the turbulent waters glinting with ripples of light.

Leaning against a tree trunk, Su Mo just panted and took a drink of water, followed by a few bites of a biscuit. Her back was aching, but she showed no outward sign of it.

"How much longer until we get there?"

Lu Chen put away the map, "Across the river, soon."

They were getting closer and closer to the central laboratory.

Su Mo nodded. After resting up, the group gathered by the river, where above the raging current was a dilapidated suspension bridge with only a few sparse wooden planks hanging from it.

Not to mention its sturdiness, this was practically akin to wire walking on a cliff.

Someone asked, "How are we supposed to get across?"

Swimming was definitely not realistic, but walking across seemed just as unreliable. Given the mutant creatures on the island, they couldn’t assume the river was safe.

After pondering for a while, Lu Chen stepped onto the wooden bridge. It swayed alarmingly, and on the other side of the river were towering Sky Trees, with thick wood vines hanging like a row of wooden curtains from their branches.
