Chapter 194: Chapter 192: The Gorilla

Su Mo was surprised, Jianxiong had been following them all along, and he was actually thinking about women. Out of consideration for his pride, she didn’t point it out but was curious when this had happened.

After a brief rest, the group continued on their way.

Left on the sandy beach next to the large sailboat, a pitch-black vessel stood still, its four soldiers vigilantly watching them, their guns’ dark muzzles aimed straight at the opposite side.

Lu Jin’s eyes, which concealed a bloody malevolence, shone with boundless malice. He gestured behind him, and immediately two superpower users with extraordinary presences stepped forward, "Go, kill their boatmen."

"Yes"

Li Chuan’s flirtatious smile faded slightly, "Doing this isn’t right, is it?"

The aura around Lu Jin was terrifying, "Even if you die here, no one would know it was my doing."

Li Chuan stopped talking, his face completely losing its smile. On the neighboring boat, the soldiers sensed trouble but didn’t even have the chance to fire their weapons before being violently torn from their necks, flesh, skin, and bone together.

Yang Jianguo wanted to escape, but as an unarmed and not-so-young man, he had nowhere to run. He knelt on the deck, crying out loud, "Spare me! Please spare me! I still have a grandson waiting for me!"

Nobody cared about his words, nor did anyone pity him; in the end, someone twisted his limbs and threw him into the sea.

After leaving a group of people to set up camp, Lu Jin led the others onto the island. Countless cloak creatures’ illusions took effect, being inhaled into their noses.

In an unnoticed place, a massive tentacle swept up Yang Jianguo, who sank in the ocean, and devoured him.

As they ventured deeper into the island, the path became even more treacherous. Fearing another encounter with such cloak creatures, Lu Chen ordered everyone to cover their mouths and noses. Their breathing was greatly affected, and it also took a toll on their stamina.

Lu Chen did not mention resting again, and after a day’s travel, he looked at the map, and looking down at a small stream flowing from the distance, he spoke solemnly, "We are almost there."

Following the small water stream upstream and pushing through layers of rainforest vegetation, they reached a towering natural rock formation as high as the sky before dark.

Between the two rock mountains lay a crevice, just wide enough for one person to pass through.

After the Spiritual Ability User confirmed that there was no danger inside, Lu Chen led the way through.

The sound of water grew clearer, and as Su Mo passed through the rock crevice, what met her eyes was a very spacious clearing, nestled between two natural rocks, like a natural fortress.

After ordering everyone to rest and spend the night, Lu Chen approached Su Mo,

She was squatting beside a small stream, water from an unknown source that was surprisingly clean. She dipped her fingers in, "How did you know to follow the water to find a place like this?"

"The rainforest is dense with vegetation that can hide deep caves," Lu Chen replied as he crouched beside her, washing his hands.

Su Mo felt like she had asked a stupid question; this man was a special forces soldier, and such survival skills were obviously within his expertise.

To prevent bites from mutant insects, Lu Chen still took out a tent and directed people to sleep inside it during the night, with two guards on each side of the crevice.

By the stream, Su Mo had the soldiers gather firewood to make a simple stove. She took out her large iron pot, "Let’s have some noodles tonight."

Lu Chen had received many supplies from Jiang Residence, and his storage space was full of various grains and flour.

The man brought out a box of fine noodles, and Sun Cheng eagerly used his Fire Power to bring the flames under the pot to their peak.

Su Mo also chose not to use the flames that came with her iron pot. Cooking with them could potentially spoil the noodles, which was unacceptable.

A pot into which Lu Chen had placed ice cubes quickly melted and began bubbling, and nearly a hundred people, soldiers and superpower users alike, devoured a box of noodles Su Mo cooked with pickles and some mutant meat, along with simple seasonings, all cooked in two batches and distributed.

Having gone all day without a break, they found it quite comfortable to eat noodles and drink the broth now.

Su Mo received many kind expressions as she took small bites of her noodles, but having served herself too much, she could only eat half before feeling full, while those around her had already finished their bowls. She passed her own bowl to Lu Chen, "I can’t eat anymore."

Her implication was clear: help me finish it, don’t waste it.

Lu Chen understood her gesture and, under the stunned gaze of onlookers, his well-defined hand took her bowl and he began eating with her chopsticks.

After the meal, as night had completely fallen, though they were in a crevice, to be on the safe side, they extinguished the fire. Everyone except the night watchmen crawled into tents to sleep.

Su Mo and Lu Chen lay in the small tent, and in the pitch-black night without any light, their senses were heightened. She heard the distant roars of mutant beasts, the rustling of birds flapping their wings in the leaves, and the soft sound of flowing water nearby.

"Get some sleep," Lu Chen enfolded her in his arms and closed his eyes.

As soon as day broke, they would resume their journey; Su Mo obediently closed her eyes.

Outside, Su Mo didn’t dare to sleep too deeply, her sharp hearing in the middle of the night caught some unusual noises.

She opened her eyes slightly and looked up to meet Lu Chen’s sharp gaze. He placed a finger to his lips, signaling her to be silent.

On the rock wall, something seemed to be crawling. Fragments of rock fell to the ground, making a jarringly abrupt noise, followed by the night watchman’s shout, "Invasion! Mutant beast invasion!"

The two of them flipped the tent open and rushed out.

It was a giant black-haired gorilla that stood on all fours but was still a meter tall; its human-like hand was clutching a night watchman, the one who had just sounded the alarm.

Everyone surrounded the gorilla, which threw the soldier aside and stood up on its entire body, its thick, long, black arms pounding furiously on its sturdy chest as it roared in anger:

"Roar!"

As soon as he heard the roar, Lu Chen charged forward, his hand covered with a layer of ice aimed straight for the gorilla’s throat.

The rest reacted, attacking it all at once. A few soldiers who had also survived in the rainforest looked particularly grim as Su Mo overheard their "lecture":

"It must be the Western lowland gorilla, and this species lives in groups."

Upon hearing ’groups,’ Su Mo immediately took out her Tang Blade and charged into the fray.

The gorilla, with its forelimbs braced on the ground, jumped up nimbly onto the wall, its roar growing louder and more intense, while bullets and superpowers that hit its fur were completely ineffective.

Lu Chen lunged but missed, his Ice Blade having no effect as it flew at the gorilla.

Su Mo took out some West Lake Longjing Tea and gulped it down, urging Lu Chen and Jianxiong to do the same.

[Skill ’Light as a Feather’ successfully boosted, duration 48 hours]

Their bodies suddenly felt lighter.

Lu Chen imitated the mutant gorilla, leaping straight up from the ground and climbing rapidly up the rock wall toward the gorilla.

Su Mo waited on the other side of the wall, ready to strike when the moment arrived.
