Chapter 190: Chapter 188: Furious Wind and Huge Waves
The further they walked inside, the thicker the fog became.
Particles of gray haze floated in the air.
Everyone had to cover their noses with cloth, and although they had taken obstacle-clearing pills, the tiny particles that entered their nostrils still caused frequent coughing.
"Let them all enter the cabin," Lu Chen ordered Jianxiong.
Jianxiong nodded and had everyone go below deck, except for the cockpit which was above, everyone entered the bottom of the ship.
Fang Xia’s mental superpower was highly concentrated. He had to not only navigate but also detect potential threats in the surroundings.
Seizing the moment, Su Mo went down to the cabin to check on the few wounded soldiers in the compartment.
Two soldiers stood at the door; seeing her approach, they hurriedly stepped aside.
Su Mo opened the door and bent over as she walked in. The four soldiers leaned against the wall, dizzy but normal in complexion, showing no signs of mutation. She couldn’t help but leap for joy inside—she had gained an incredible weapon.
After pouring some tea for each of them, she stood up and walked out: "No signs of mutation, you guys rest up, you’ve been standing all day."
The two guard soldiers at the door had not slept all night. Hearing what she said, they sat on the ground and took a short nap, relieved.
Su Mo returned to the cockpit above. The ship was speeding forward, bursting out of the fog in an instant.
There was no gradual thinning of the fog; the view ahead cleared up in a split second.
But what cleared up wasn’t the sky, but a dazzling blue lightning bolt that split the dark sky in two right above the ship. The sound, like the opening of the heavens, left everyone’s ears buzzing.
The torrential rain fell like a massive black curtain from the sky, pattering down on the deck, and the sound of the large raindrops hitting the windows seemed as if it would shatter the glass.
Following that came the violent hurricane. The huge ship swayed in the dense black waves, while the sails were almost torn in two by the wind.
Su Mo quickly grabbed onto the door to steady herself as people on the ship staggered about.
Lu Chen’s expression was serious, his brows twisted into a frown. He issued a series of orders, "All soldiers stay in the cabin and don’t come out, let the superpower users go out to receive the sails, Yang Jianguo, let the ship go with the waves."
Yang Jianguo’s heart felt like it was about to jump out of his throat. Such a massive sea storm was rare. If mishandled, they could easily capsize with the ship. He immediately controlled the steering wheel, trying to turn the ship to face the wind and waves head-on.
But the hurricane was too strong; he simply couldn’t turn the wheel: "We have to receive the sails! Otherwise, we can’t turn!"
While enduring the waves’ continuous pounding, they also had to deal with the headwind, the ship persistently being pushed sideways.
Su Mo glanced outside. All the superpower users had received the instructions and were desperately pulling down the ropes to lower the sails.
Jianxiong had already transformed into a three-meter-tall figure with his superpower fully activated and managed to bring down the largest sail, directing the others to carry the received sail inside the cabin. He braved the rain and rushed back to the cockpit, his voice urgent, "Boss! Someone has to climb up to the very top. The wind and waves are too strong; we can’t do it!"
With his size, he would be blown away along with the pole if he tried to climb up, and ordinary people wouldn’t be able to hold on and would be blown away, too.
Su Mo immediately said, "I’ll go."
"No, I’ll go," Lu Chen rejected the idea without a second thought.
The storm outside was growing stronger, and a dull rumbling sound echoed between the clouds. No need to guess—the next bolt of lightning was imminent.
Su Mo pressed down on his hand, "We’re running out of time, you need to stay here to remember the route and direct them; I’m the best fit to receive the sails!"
"Miss Su, if you go up there, you’ll just be blown away," Fang Xia also tried to persuade her from the side.
Su Mo ignored him, pulling Lu Chen out of the cabin and into a room. She hurried the man to get a plate of bok choy, which she ate a few bites of, "Don’t worry, I won’t fall overboard."
[The Spiderman effect on the wall was successfully activated, requiring 48 hours to take effect]
"Trust me," she gave him a reassuring look.
The two returned to the cockpit.
Lu Chen’s face was nearly frozen into a block, his hands clenched into fists, tightening and tightening, until finally, he threw a rope to Jianxiong, "Protect her."
Jianxiong nodded solemnly, "Understood."
When Su Mo opened the cabin door to go out, the fierce wind and torrential rain nearly prevented her from opening her eyes. Her clothes were instantly soaked by the black raindrops. Jianxiong stood in front of her, tying a rope around her waist, and attaching the other end of the rope to himself.
Su Mo spread out her palm, and inside, the tiny sharp hooks poised fiercely upwards. She looked up at the exceedingly tall mast and the nearly torn sails above, "So I just need to untie it?"
"That’s right, sister, don’t worry. If anything unexpected happens, I’ll definitely pull you back!"
Su Mo wasn’t worried about that; she was concerned about the rolling thunderclouds amidst the layers of clouds. Taking a deep breath, she placed her palm on the mast, with the sharp hooks firmly embedded into the wood.
After testing it and finding no issues, she quickened her pace and climbed upwards.
The ship was tossed and swayed unsteadily, and as she climbed halfway up, she had to embrace the whole mast, swaying with the wind. The fierce wind mixed with rain forced her to bite her lip as her body involuntarily started to shiver, and her speed increased even more.
When she reached the top, the sail flapped loudly in the wind.
She reached out with one hand to untie the knots, which were very tight. Glancing at the rolling waves below, she swallowed hard before finally climbing onto the crossbar, which was half as thick as the mainmast but had the sail attached to it.
She sat atop it, legs wrapped around the mast, letting go with her hands to frantically tug at the ropes.
The sound of thunder overhead grew louder, and Su Mo could no longer tell if the wetness on her face was from the rain or her own sweat.
The moment the sail was taken down, secured, and tied up, Yang Jianguo was finally able to fully turn the steering wheel.
Su Mo had just breathed a sigh of relief when she heard distant shouting from below.
Jianxiong tightened the rope around his waist and yelled, "Sister! Quick, come down!"
She looked into the distance and saw a massive, dark wave ten meters high.
Unless the ship turned and sailed out of the wave’s path, the whole thing would shatter.
Sitting on the crossbar, Su Mo’s feet went weak with fear. This was the first time in her life she had seen such a terrifying sight.
At that moment, under Yang Jianguo’s control, the ship made a huge, sharp turn and began to rapidly retreat.
The unexpected turn made Su Mo lose her grip on the mast, and she plummeted from the crossbar.
"Sister!" Jianxiong, terrified, unlocked his Level 3 superpower and, using the crossbar as a leverage point, desperately pulled the rope back, managing to catch Su Mo just in time.
She hung upside down mid-air, swinging rapidly between the hull and the sea surface.
Su Mo’s heart felt like it was on a rollercoaster ride. She touched her face, and through her blurred vision, she saw Lu Chen rushing out of the cockpit. She waved at him and yelled, "I’m fine, I’ll be back soon!"
