The Chef Rules the Last Days -
Chapter 188 - 186: Death
Chapter 188: Chapter 186: Death
He quickly adjusted the boat’s direction, trying to bypass the obstacle.
The piranhas below were swirling around even faster.
"What piranha?" Jianxiong barked at him; he was ready to fully engage and deal with these fish at any moment.
"It’s just a piranha! Look at its teeth, they’re more than twice as long as the usual mutants!" Yang Jianguo’s voice, raspy like rotten wood, was tinged with despair:
"These things did not used to live here!"
Even before the apocalypse, it was a carnivorous and ferocious creature, let alone now; he was indeed utterly unlucky.
Shortly after he spoke, several more jumped out of the water and attacked them.
With each wave, more came; Su Mo took out her Tang Blade and glanced at it; this time, she definitely could not lose focus.
"Go inside and wait for me," Lu Chen reached for her hand, intending to take her into the cabin.
But Su Mo couldn’t agree; she pulled away from his grip. "It’s okay, I’m not that dizzy, I can help."
Lu Chen, feeling helpless, said, "Just say if you can’t hold on."
Su Mo nodded. On the sides of the two large sailing ships, the school of fish seemed to have agreed on a plan, powering their tails and leaping from the ocean, sending black seawater cascading onto the ship.
Su Mo split a fish attacking her with one slice; in an instant, the deck was covered with floundering piranhas.
Those sharp teeth could easily cut through their skin and cause infection if they were not careful.
Suddenly, gunshots mixed with a variety of superpowers exploded around the ship.
Yang Jianguo was terrified in the cockpit; Su Mo ran over, closed the door to the cockpit, and stomped on a fish jumping toward her. She crushed the crystal core beneath her foot, a Level 1 Crystal Stone.
"Jianxiong, go protect the cockpit," Lu Chen’s hand emitted spreading cold ice, freezing half of the mutant fish that had fallen onto the deck.
To avoid damaging his jacket, Jianxiong took it off and released all his Level 3 superpower, he shot up to three meters, his entire body glowing silver like a gigantic gorilla, guarding in front of the cockpit to prevent the fish from breaking the glass.
The piranhas’ teeth couldn’t penetrate his solidified body; with a simple slap, he crushed the fish, guarding in front of the cockpit, collecting the Crystal Stones from their crushed bodies.
With someone protecting Yang Jianguo, Su Mo walked around wielding her Tang Blade incessantly, with a predictive enhancement, she easily evaded all attacks.
The soldiers without superpowers suffered greatly; there were too many fish on deck. A soldier whose name Su Mo did not know, covered his face and panicked, about to shoot the mutant fish flipping near his feet.
She swiftly grabbed the gun handle, firing the bullet into the air; with one slice, she cut the fish at her feet and shouted, "Are you crazy? If you shoot through the boat, won’t we all die!"
The soldier, turned back, his face pale. "I..."
Su Mo looked at him; her eyes widened as she saw the blood-streaked face he covered with his hand, the bright red flesh glistening between the fingers where the fish had bitten.
Her reproach got stuck in her throat; she pushed him aside: "Go rest, I’ll take over."
Watching her petite figure, the soldier’s eyes reddened, his gaze desperate as he whispered a thank you: "Thank you."
Su Mo only heard a gunshot behind her, a splatter of warm blood on the back of her neck startled her; she turned around, the soldier lay in front of her with his head blown open, the gun still smoking slightly in his hand.
He had killed himself.
Realizing this, Su Mo’s grip on her knife tightened, she turned back, slashing even more fiercely with her Tang Blade.
As if sensing her anger, the magnetic field around the Tang Blade underwent subtle changes, as if accommodating its master.
Lu Chen kept shuttling back and forth, a thick frost covering most of the ship’s surface. He watched over Su Mo while occasionally forming Ice Shields to protect soldiers from unexpected gaping maws.
The number of fish was gradually decreasing, but the number of injured was continually increasing.
Su Mo saw the chaos on the opposing ship, where only Lu Jin stood alone at the bow, his surroundings distorted and torn. Any Mutant Fish that came near him were reduced to mush within a few steps, as if thrown into a meat grinder.
Only when the school of Mutant Fish finally could not withstand any longer and began to disperse did everyone breathe a sigh of relief and collapse on the ground, surrounded by a mess and fish carcasses everywhere.
Someone immediately took a count of the personnel and reported the casualties to Lu Chen.
One had died, but four were injured; all were elite soldiers, with not a single superpower user hurt.
Yang Jianguo, upon ascertaining safety, came out and said that blood must not remain on the ship as it could attract large Mutated Fish.
Lu Chen ordered that all injured be moved inside the cabin. The one who had died, Su Mo took initiative, took out a sleeping bag to put him in, and asked Lu Chen for a towel to cover his unrecognizable face.
She felt a deep sorrow within her. Lu Chen himself horizontally carried the body to the stern, Su Mo walking beside him, looking out at the vast sea. She glanced at the body only to hear Lu Chen’s deep voice say, "Death, too, is a release."
"Splash!"
It was the sound of the body hitting the water, followed by a series of black bubbles as it sank and vanished without a trace.
Lu Chen stood there, his face stern, "We still have more important tasks ahead of us."
He pulled her back to the cabin, where a few soldiers, not yet mutated but with the virus spreading inside them, lay.
Most had injuries on their legs and arms since they had only been attacked by Level 1 Mutant Monsters, the infection wasn’t spreading fast.
Su Mo looked at the despairing faces of the soldiers, pondered for a moment and then took out the Tang Blade, "Get the Fire Ability User here."
Lu Chen gave an order to Jianxiong, who immediately fetched the Fire Ability User.
It was a young man.
"Admiral, I am Sun Cheng, a Level 3 Fire Ability User," he said.
Su Mo glanced at him, squatted down, and picked up a soldier whose leg had been nearly bitten off, "Let the others leave, you stay."
Everyone exited, leaving only Su Mo, the superpower user, and four soldiers awaiting death in the room.
She took out the Tang Blade and pondered for a while, then looked into the young soldier’s pain-filled eyes, "You now have two choices; one is that I cut off your leg to see if it saves your life, or two, wait for death."
Regardless, she felt it was necessary to ask for their opinions.
Losing limbs was a heavy blow for these men who depended on their skills to survive, but nothing was more important than staying alive.
All four chose to have their limbs amputated.
Su Mo nodded and handed the blade to Sun Cheng, "Heat it."
Although Sun Cheng was a Level 3 superpower user, he still admired the courage of these soldiers, and promptly complied. A long flame clung to the Tang Blade as he controlled it.
In the blink of an eye, the blade grew red-hot.
