The Chef Rules the Last Days
Chapter 183 - 181: Cannibalism

Chapter 183: Chapter 181: Cannibalism

They proceeded in silence, a quiet so profound that when a nearby window came into view, Lu Jin hid in the darkness, observing the situation, "Inform the brothers, sleep well tonight."

The person behind him withdrew at the command.

Unsure of how far they had walked, Su Mo, resting on someone else’s shoulder, could only see grass piles and trees around - they must be in the small woods behind the village.

"We’ve had a lot of visitors these past couple of days."

"Exactly, but we’ve never seen a scene like today’s."

"The meat from these people will last us a long time, hahaha."

"When they all come tomorrow and find their companions gone, we’ll just say they left early. It’s such a foolproof excuse every time."

That sinister laughter blended with the sound of the wind through the woods, and Su Mo understood; this was a cannibal village.

In the distance, inside a building amongst the trees with smoke rising from its chimney, Su Mo and Lu Chen were thrown in.

"These two are the prettiest, let’s eat them first!"

Su Mo recognized the voice as belonging to the woman who accepted the rice and flour that morning.

She opened her eyes to a slit, saw a pair of feet shuffle by, and heard the sound of sharpening knives nearby.

A huge stove held a large cauldron of water waiting to boil, beneath which firewood blazed fiercely.

She slightly turned her head and nearly failed to maintain her feigned unconsciousness as she saw, up close, a long hook with a completely naked man, half of his body missing, hanging from it.

A wooden basin sat underneath, containing various human organs.

The man was firmly suspended by two sharp hooks that pierced through his shoulder blades.

Su Mo silently closed her eyes as nausea welled up within her at the sight of these degenerates.

"The water’s boiling, it’s about time. Let’s cook the people and peel them first."

Inside the colossal stove, bubbles began to form and rise to the surface of the water.

Su Mo felt sharp nails sliding across her face.

"I want her face, it’s so tender. You could almost pinch water out of it."

Unable to restrain herself any longer, Su Mo’s eyes snapped open, startling the woman, "So you’re the ones eating people here?"

"What! You!"

Chaos ensued around her, the woman stumbled backward, still holding a newly sharpened kitchen knife.

Lu Chen, who had been pretending to be unconscious beside her, suddenly opened his eyes wide, and the temperature inside the room began to drop.

With a smile, Su Mo said, "We have so many people, and we’re armed. You really dare to ambush us in the middle of the night."

"You’re okay!" Although the woman found it unbelievable, she let out a sardonic laugh, "What does it matter? Who can find you here?"

She swung the kitchen knife down towards Su Mo’s face.

Before the blade could reach Su Mo, it froze into an ice blade and shattered into several pieces.

"You!" The woman cried out in shock, retreating several steps, while behind her, a few superpower users with arrogant demeanors stepped forward.

Su Mo, spotting the small flames, sneered, "Level 1 Superpower Users coming out to show off?"

She stood up, pulling out a pitch-black Tang Blade, "You kidnapped people, and didn’t even bother to tie them up with rope."

Thinking the two were knocked out, these people had not bothered to tie them up.

The moment after she finished speaking, she appeared beside the Fire Ability User.

No one saw how Su Mo made her move; the cannibals only saw the Fire Ability User stop moving as his head was neatly sliced off, falling to the ground.

"Ah! No!"

All thoughts of cannibalistic excitement gone, they looked around, eyes wide with terror, and ran outside.

But outside, the soldiers and superpower users who had been ordered by Lu Chen to take the Clear Miasma Pills earlier were all present.

Having followed them all the way here, not one of them would escape unscathed.

As Su Mo looked around the room, she realized it was simply a human slaughterhouse. Not just the person hanging from a hook—behind the plastic curtains lay piles of human bones stripped of flesh.

"Feeding on one’s own kind is truly revolting," she said, turning her head away from the horrifying scene. Lu Chen clapped his hands, stood up, took her hand, and walked outside.

All the cannibal villagers outside were squatting on the open ground in front of the houses with their hands on their heads, huddled together.

"Boss," Jianxiong waved at Lu Chen and Su Mo, "Are you alright?"

"We’re fine," Su Mo shook her head.

The cannibals were surrounded tightly, their wills collapsing under the dark muzzles of guns.

"Don’t kill me!"

"I will never eat people again! Don’t kill me! Spare us."

The woman who had been the leader and had once longed to eat Su Mo was now crying her eyes out: "We were just desperately hungry."

Of course, she didn’t dare to say that she hadn’t expected to run into such trouble.

Su Mo found the plea of hunger quite odd. She crouched in front of the woman and pinched her chin, "When we gave you rice and flour, it didn’t seem like you were eating human flesh out of sheer hunger."

The look on her face was clearly one of addiction to human flesh.

"No, no!"

"That pile of bones back there shows you’ve eaten quite a few people," Su Mo said with disdain, releasing the woman’s chin and wiping her hand on her body.

No matter how these people tried to justify themselves, no one felt any sympathy for them, especially after seeing the room full of human flesh.

Several soldiers and superpower users had gone into the house out of curiosity. Even those with strong mental constitutions couldn’t help but retch when they came out.

"What’s wrong with trying to survive?!" the woman shouted, realizing that pleading was not going to work.

"You’re not wrong, you just happened to encounter us," Su Mo stepped back a few steps, and Lu Chen encircled her to return the way they had come.

A cold male voice came from ahead:

"Kill them."

Though Su Mo had no right to judge these people, in a world where they had become beasts that butchered their own kind, leaving them alive would be a source of endless trouble. She supported Lu Chen’s decision.

Not one of the cannibal villagers was spared; Jianxiong set fire to the house in the woods and took everyone back.

Inside the villa, having only slept a few hours, the sky had begun to lighten.

Everyone packed up their belongings and prepared to continue their journey.

In a foreign-style house not far from their own, the man who had once advised Su Mo and the others to leave had become the village’s last survivor. The rice and flour that were to be given to the villagers as a reward were dropped outside the survivor’s house by Lu Chen’s orders.

The huge convoy, after that unpleasant detour, set off once again.

Fortunately, after that day, no more twisted events occurred.

Before reaching Tanghai City, they encountered a small zombie horde.

It was Fang Xia, a Spiritual Superpower User, who reported over the walkie-talkie that a horde of zombies was blocking the city’s main gate, and they would arrive soon.

Having no other choice, they had to push through forcefully.

Jianxiong slowed down his vehicle just as the first wave of zombies appeared, followed by intermittent gunshots from the vehicles behind.

The abilities of superpower users were also unleashed.

After taking a sip of Longjing Tea and hearing Lu Chen’s order to disembark and clear the zombies, Su Mo joined him in getting out of the car. There were too many, and they needed to conserve as much ammunition as possible before heading to the island.

Lu Jin, understanding the stakes involved, stepped out of the car and started clearing the roadblock, his dark, brooding eyes occasionally sweeping over towards Su Mo.
