Chapter 158 - 155: Refusing Unpalatable Food
Chapter 158: Chapter 155: Refusing Unpalatable Food
Su Mo picked up the meat and asked the person curled up on the sofa in the living room, "Did they say what kind of meat this is when they delivered it?"
"Mutated wild boar meat," Li Qian replied.
Su Mo was taken aback, "Can you eat mutated meat?"
Li Qian nodded, "They said it’s edible."
Su Mo nodded and stopped fussing, Jiang Hai probably wasn’t foolish enough to poison his son; this meat should indeed be edible.
"Then let’s make sour and spicy tripe soup for lunch, and fry some pork. There are still vegetables stored in Lu Chen’s Space," Su Mo looked at the recipes in the panel mall and immediately decided on the two dishes.
Not only was this dish expensive, but it also had a peculiar status effect. She wanted to try and see if she could make it without buying the recipe.
"Should be possible, we should have enough ingredients, we have ginger and garlic," Su Niang said as she looked through the basket of vegetables and nodded.
Su Mo took out all the cooking utensils, started the rice, and let Su Niang prepare the side dishes. She took out all the seasonings she needed and placed them aside.
Since the Flat Pot was too small, she had to switch to a large iron pot, which almost took up half of the gas stove.
Su Mo deftly heated the oil until the sizzling drops popped, then she added garlic slices and dried chili to fry until fragrant. Once the chili changed color, she followed Su Niang’s instructions, added vinegar, and then water and ginger strips.
After boiling for about five minutes, Su Mo removed the ingredients from the soup and added the remaining seasonings.
"Feels like it’s missing some seasoning, the flavor is off," she said after dipping her chopsticks into the broth and tasting.
Su Niang nodded in agreement, "Without Sichuan peppercorns and peppercorn, the flavor is indeed lacking."
After adding the sliced tripe and cooking it, Su Mo added a couple of drops of sesame oil, thickened the soup, sprinkled some green onions, and turned off the heat before serving.

"So bad..." Su Mo muttered to herself, as expected, she needed more practice.
A large pot full of pork tripe soup was served in three big bowls, and when Su Niang carried it out, the aroma still enticed everyone on the sofa to line up and sit at the round table.
Lu Chen took out a plate of potato strips and braised Crucian Carp from the Space that had been stored last time, and after Su Mo finished frying the pork, everyone conscientiously began to serve themselves rice.
"Try the soup made from mutated pork, see how it tastes," Su Mo said as she served herself an empty bowl of soup.
Jianxiong couldn’t wait as he held his bowl and drank, "This tripe is so tender, with a special chewiness to it! Delicious!"
His words received unanimous praise from everyone; even Su Mo found it very tasty, as the deliciousness of the mutated meat seemed to be a level above that of regular meat.
Su Niang and Ling Ye stopped moving after eating the pork and drinking the soup.
Li Qian glanced at the two, and a look of concern flashed in the eyes behind his glasses. His first reaction was poisoning, "What’s wrong?"
The two’s abnormal reaction raised the concern of everyone, and as Su Mo put down her chopsticks, she worriedly asked, "Can’t ordinary people eat it?"
Su Niang came back to her senses and quickly shook her head, "No, no, I heard a weird sound."
"A sound?" Su Mo was startled, could it be...
Ling Ye spoke from the side with her crisp voice, "I know about blocking spiritual power, but what does it mean to reject unpalatable food?"
"This..." Su Mo was shocked as she looked down at the pig’s stomach soup in her bowl, which had the addition of mutant meat, now even ordinary people could receive the status bonus!
Led by the gleam in Li Qian’s eyes behind his glasses, he turned to Ling Ye, who curiously sat there and spoke in a gentle voice, "This matter must be kept to yourself."
Ling Ye caught his warning gaze and nodded slightly, "I know."
Ever since the day she quickly healed after drinking tea, she had become aware of some of Su Mo’s miraculous abilities.
Su Niang patted Ling Ye’s shoulder; although she was astonished, she swiftly accepted it and whispered to Ling Ye, "You must keep your Sister Su’s secret safe."
"I won’t betray her," Ling Ye said gravely as she raised her head.
"But what is unpalatable food? This tastes pretty good," Jianxiong curiously remarked, taking another hearty sip of soup.
Even Lu Chen didn’t know what that was, let alone Su Mo.
"If we’re unclear, let’s just eat. Why create such a tense atmosphere?" Su Mo took a sip of soup, not the least bit worried about the youngster; his mother was still in her grasp, after all. She was merely surprised by the mutant meat’s effect.
No one delved deeper into the subject, and the atmosphere once again became harmonious and cheerful.
After a full meal, Su Mo and Lu Chen sat on the couch discussing the task for the day after tomorrow, and everyone agreed without objections, especially Zhao Changsheng, who wished they could set off immediately to kill zombies. Everyone in the team had leveled up except her; staying behind was making her anxious.
Su Mo and Lu Chen took an afternoon nap, then got up and went to the Jiang Residence.
Jiang Yulian’s condition was worse than when Su Mo had seen her the day before.
"You’re here," she said, leaning on the bed with a nutrient IV drip in her arm, hardly able to eat anything because of the new medicine.
Lu Chen’s eyes darkened, "You stay here with Aunt Jiang, I need to step out for a moment."
Without waiting for Su Mo’s response, Lu Chen turned and left.
"This child..." Jiang Yulian coughed twice and sighed.
"Aunt Jiang, is there anything you’d like to eat?" Su Mo asked with a smile, handing her water to drink.
Jiang Yulian shook her head, "I can’t really eat."
"How about I start bringing you meals from tomorrow? I cook really well," Su Mo gently held her hand and coaxed her.
She had the air of someone who wouldn’t leave unless agreed upon, amusing yet compelling Jiang Yulian, "Okay... I’ll try."
The door to Jiang Hai’s study slammed shut behind Lu Chen, who strode over to the desk and looked down coldly at the middle-aged man seated behind it, his thin lips parting slightly, "Stop the medicine."
"We just discussed this issue this morning," Jiang Hai glanced at him and reproached, "The child in your aunt’s womb is the only successor to the Jiang Residence, the person you must protect for the rest of your life, don’t get any ideas!"
"She won’t live that long," Lu Chen’s gaze became colder.
A flicker of regret passed through Jiang Hai’s eyes, but nothing was more important than his child’s life.
Lu Chen’s fists tightened as he towered over him, "I’ll get you the materials for Southern Island."
Jiang Hai was startled, standing up solemnly, "You’re agreeing to it?"
"I’ll help you retrieve power, and I will take over Aunt Jiang’s care; how about it?" Lu Chen’s gaze was unfazed as he offered the enticing deal, making Elder Jiang hesitate.
Half of his military power had been divided by Lu Youwei, and half the results of the underground experiments were in his possession; the materials for Southern Island were vitally important. With them, as long as he beat Lu Youwei to it, he could regain control of the base.
Lu Chen was the foster son he had raised for over twenty years, but sometimes, even he couldn’t grasp his foster son’s thoughts.
