Chapter 149: Chapter 146: Cleanse and Enter the City

Su Mo looked at the equipment, filled with a futuristic design, and slightly furrowed her brows as she touched her heart.

[System, will there be a problem if I’m scanned by the equipment?]

[Scanning....]

[No]

Her eyes widened in surprise; it actually responded to her. Previously, it would say it wasn’t within its authority, so she rarely conversed with it.

Having received the answer she wanted, Su Mo felt relieved.

Lu Chen glanced down at her, a hint of worry concealed in his phoenix eyes, and coldly asked Chang Sheng, "What is that?"

"Just a routine virus scanning device," Chang Sheng immediately replied.

Su Mo tugged at his sleeve and whispered, "Don’t worry, there won’t be any problems."

Seeing her confident demeanor, Lu Chen chose not to say more.

Li Chuan appeared beside Lu Chen at some point, leaned close to his ear, and whispered, "We’ll meet later."

He gave Su Mo an enchanting smile, his almond eyes narrowing, then turned and stepped into the device.

When it was their turn, each person entered the device and stood for a while as something akin to ultraviolet light scanned them from head to toe.

Su Mo entered, the light making her very uncomfortable; fortunately, everything was normal.

Afterward, the men and women were separated into two rooms; apparently, scanning was not enough—they had to undergo a thorough cleansing.

Two rows of people in protective suits stood inside; one side holding spray guns, the other holding brushes as large as brooms.

Su Mo, Zhao Changsheng, and Su Niang were all squeezed into this room, along with many other women. Everything around them was a blur of white, and from a loudspeaker overhead came a mechanical voice:

"Superpower users go to the compartment for cleaning, the rest stand still."

A small door opened on one wall of the room, and Su Mo took Su Niang’s hand to head over.

"I’ll be fine here," Su Niang said embarrassedly, being a woman without a superpower. The announcement had been quite clear.

"No worries," Su Mo said cheerfully, "I’ll cover for you."

"Exactly, your old bones can’t withstand being sprayed by those water guns," Zhao Changsheng butted in, although his words were still pretty harsh.

One on each side, they escorted her towards the opening.

On the other side of the door, resembling a bathhouse, stood a medic at the entrance, holding a notepad: "Show your superpower, and you can bathe."

Zhao Changsheng immediately formed a Thunder Ball in his hand, crackling it in front of his face.

The medic stepped back in fright but looked excited. It had been so long since she’d seen a female Thunder power user. She said with a quivering voice, "Go through...go through."

"Can I bring someone with me?" Zhao Changsheng leaned in close, his fox-like eyes shimmering with electricity.

His superpower gave him a high status in the base, though he was not yet aware of it. The medic nodded without hesitation, "Yes..."

After Su Mo briefly showed the soap inside the compartment for half a second, the three of them smoothly obtained the right to bathe.

In the compartment, a total of five people entered.

Outside, anguished screams were heard one after another.

Su Mo walked into the shower and found that it was fully equipped with brand-new clothes, all unopened and neatly arranged on shelves in every size.

After a thorough disinfection shower, she put on new clothes, "This service isn’t half bad."

"Thank you all," Su Niang kept thanking them next to her until Zhao Changsheng lost patience, and then she chuckled and fell silent.

By the time the three of them came out, the men had already been waiting for a while.

Their car had been cleaned and was also let in.

Chang Sheng stood straight and said formally, "There’s still some distance to the inner city, follow me."

The group got into the car, and because of their different statuses, they were not taken by Chang Sheng to test their superpower levels but went directly to the inner city, each receiving a simplified map of the base.

The entire B City base was a series of concentric rings in which the most despised commoners lived in the outermost ring, which was where Su Mo and her companions passed through at first.

Looking out the window, she could only feel a wave of filth and chaos.

There were no houses in the outermost ring, only tents everywhere, with hardly any space to set foot on except on the road.

"Where is he taking us?" Su Mo turned her head away from the wretched surroundings and asked, looking at the vehicle leading the way.

"The Lu Family," said Lu Chen in a cold voice.

Turning her head to look at him, Su Mo curiously said, seeing his calm and collected demeanor, "Aren’t we going to the Jiang Residence?"

Lu Chen gave her a glance, ruffled her hair, and his voice warmed, "We are."

He seemed to have anticipated everything with great precision.

When they entered the third ring, several military vehicles that were speeding intercepted them; a formidable military officer stepped out from one car, and Chang Sheng knew instantly they were there to take someone away.

"Hu Ding, what’s the hold-up?" Chang Sheng got out of the car and was still relatively polite to him.

"Elder Jiang has ordered me to bring the Admiral home," Hu Ding said with his aura full-blown, his eyes nearly spitting fire. A group of powerful superpower users also stepped out behind him, each exuding an imposing presence.

Knowing he wouldn’t be able to bring the man back with him, Chang Sheng didn’t tangle further and took two steps back, "I’ll ask Commander Lu."

After getting instructions through the intercom in the car, he went straight to Rong Bai’s and Li Chuan’s vehicles, "Lu Li, you need to go with me to the Lu Family. I’ve arranged a spot for you and your soldiers."

Well aware that one must follow the rules on someone else’s turf, Rong Bai didn’t resist much. He just greeted Lu Chen and left.

Only after Chang Sheng took Lu Chen away, did Lu Chen get out of the car and open the trunk.

When Hu Ding saw his familiar face, he was overwhelmed with excitement and didn’t know where to put his hands, "You’re really alive!"

Lu Chen nodded slightly, "Are you well?"

Inquiring about his well-being, Hu Ding, a big man, felt a lump in his throat, "The lady’s not doing so well..."

"Let’s talk back at home," Lu Chen’s gaze darkened as he turned and went back to the car.

Su Mo heard their conversation clearly. Elder Jiang in A City was one thing, but in B City, he became the deputy directly. She lowered her eyes, pondering; it seemed that the control of the Lu Family in B City was even greater than what she had heard.

Once back in the car, Hu Ding was shaking with excitement, and the other formidable superpower users alongside him felt similarly. Lu Chen’s arrival could very likely change the current predicament.

The car drove through the third wall; each gate was heavily guarded.

Within the third wall, it was much smaller than the outer perimeters, yet it was decorated as it was before the apocalypse. What met the eye were rows of mansions, with soft lawns alongside the roads, and even the families of high-ranking officials in luxurious dresses, followed by nannies, strolling down the roads with children in hand.

"Is this the apocalypse for them, my god," Jianxiong exclaimed, following the car in front, "This is like paradise compared to what’s outside."
