Chapter 143: Chapter 140: Escape from Yan City

The gas tank was thrown into the pile of human cocoons, and the slowly emanating odor started to agitate the female queen above, her eight legs beginning to move erratically.

As Su Mo ducked under a swinging leg, Lu Chen grabbed her and they both started running towards the door. She glanced at the countdown timer above his head and said, "Only one minute left!"

In the control room, the restlessness of the female queen caused the male spiders, originally busy weaving cocoons, to back away rapidly, and the male spiders from several passages quickly converged towards them.

"Enough," Lu Chen turned and quickly shot several Ice Blades from his hand, all of which stabbed directly into the gas tank.

As the two of them backed out, they were confronted by a swarm of male spiders.

Lu Chen hugged Su Mo and threw themselves to the ground; the gas tank, reacting swiftly with the air, exploded with a bang, triggering a chain reaction that destroyed the control room’s equipment.

He covered his back with a layer of ice, and a Fire Dragon surged forth from the control room, scorching the male spiders to ashes just inches away.

The struggling female queen in the control room, her legs flailing and body ablaze, fell from above to the ground. Her massive abdomen cracked open, and countless spiderlings emerged only to be scorched clean by the fire.

The entire tunnel began to totter on the brink of collapse. Knowing that the gas pipes were above the electrical wires, Lu Chen quickly pulled up Su Mo and charged at the approaching spiders, whose shape simulation had worn off.

Su Mo glanced at his back. Not a hair was harmed beneath his damp clothes. She set her mind at ease, took out her Tang Blade, sipped some Jasmine Tea, and slashed at the leading spider.

Cold Ice Barbs kept forming in front of Lu Chen, while Ice Blades launched in rapid succession.

Many of the male spiders caught fire before they could reach the two of them, burning to a crisp.

Rong Bai didn’t know what had happened when he saw Li Chuan leading a charge into the fray, and immediately followed with his own team.

Zhang Jun, seeing no one paying attention to him, could only desperately try to keep up.

Zhao Changsheng and the others, upon seeing the dazzling firelight ahead, darted out: "Momo!"

The struggling of the female queen in the control room grew weaker, and with Su Mo nimbly weaving through spider legs, the male spiders outside were blocked effectively by the two.

Each spider here was a Level 3 male, with plenty of Crystal Cores.

With Lu Chen’s protection, she was nearly invincible. As the backup team arrived, and with the female queen’s definitive death ending the release of pheromonal commands, all the male spiders receded from the tunnel like a low tide.

Li Chuan was the first to arrive for backup. Aware that his flames could accelerate the explosion of the overhead gas pipeline, the few remaining mercenaries stayed in front to fight off the spiders.

Rong Bai also arrived with his team. Upon seeing Su Mo, Zhao Changsheng breathed a sigh of relief, his whip strikes becoming even more ferocious.

Having carved out the charred female queen’s Crystal Core in the control room, Lu Chen tossed it into his Space item.

"Well done!" Rong Bai stepped forward and gave Lu Chen a punch on the shoulder after a glance at the gigantic female queen.

"You should thank your sister-in-law," Lu Chen said dismissively, brushing his hand aside.

"Let’s get out of here," Su Mo said, not having time to argue because the entire tunnel entrance was starting to teeter from the explosion. As her companions all gathered, the group rushed towards the other exit of the control room.

The team trailing behind stopped resisting the horde of spiders, retracting their weapons and desperately racing towards them.

Lu Chen looked up at the gas pipeline overhead, his hands conjuring Ice Blades to pierce the pipe several times, allowing the remaining gas to ignite a significant explosion.

Above them now was a swarm of zombies. Several naive couples arrived by car, and without a chance to fight back, they were quickly overwhelmed and devoured by the horde.

With the threat of the male spiders gone, they were finally able to move without obstruction, but their numbers had sharply decreased, especially the group of ordinary people who were used as human shields at the back; they were almost completely wiped out, leaving only a few superpower users, which, of course, included Bai Ling.

The smell of gas in the pipelines grew stronger and stronger, and by the time they emerged from Yan City, it was already dark. They climbed out at a manhole cover, which was located in a clump of grass by the roadside.

Li Chuan was the last to emerge. He shook a small cluster of flames down the well, and the gas that had permeated most of the underground space erupted upward in a Fire Dragon, causing the ground to crack and collapse along the way. He stepped back a few paces, turned his head to look at Lu Chen, and smiled broadly on his pale face.

Yan City was not far behind them, with a dense horde of zombies just visible.

The group dared not linger and walked a few kilometers in the dark before they stopped briefly to ensure their safety and rest.

Exhausted, Su Mo no longer cared about the dirt and simply sat down on the ground. Her appearance was indeed not very appealing at the moment, with a lot of green slime stained on her and a string of sticky spider silk hanging from her head.

Lu Chen removed the webbing for her and sat down beside her on the ground.

The tent and other items stored in his Space were all taken out, and a few soldiers came forward to help distribute them.

"Momo, are you hurt?" Zhao Changsheng asked tenderly as he lifted her hand to check it over, warming Su Mo’s heart. She gently pulled away and smiled, "I’m fine."

Su Niang thanked Jianxiong again and again, "Leaf, you should say thank you to your uncle."

The mosquito-like feeble ’thank you’ from Ling Ye startled Jianxiong. He looked at Su Niang and gave her a thumbs-up, "Not bad, you’re more effective than your sister. It seems the kid has changed his ways."

Rong Bai’s expression was grave as he approached Lu Chen, and several soldiers came over, pushing Bai Ling forward.

They had lost the courteousness they initially had, tossing her directly onto the ground, led by an angry young soldier.

Su Mo glanced at the disheveled Bai Ling and raised an eyebrow.

"Report!" the young soldier shouted.

Rong Bai, with a tense face, glanced at the tearful woman on the ground, "Speak."

The soldier relayed the entire sequence of events he had witnessed with a pained expression.

Rong Bai’s face turned ugly in an instant. Already in a foul mood from losing so many brothers, this woman had directly hit a nerve. His face clouded as he squatted down, staring at Bai Ling, "Did you kill my soldiers?"

"I’m a Dual Ability User! You know my value!" Bai Ling panicked. She tried to get up and run but was tripped to the ground by Su Mo, who couldn’t resist watching the drama unfold.

"Value?" Rong Bai scoffed coldly, his aura becoming more and more terrifying, "Are my soldiers, trained for over a decade, worth less than you?"
