Chapter 138: Chapter 133: Let’s Play a Game

"Jumping Spider?" Rong Bai stood up and looked at him, asking, "Do you understand spiders?"

Li Qian shook his head, "I’ve seen them on Animal Planet."

Rong Bai: "..."

Faced with a host of skeptical gazes, Li Qian explained unperturbedly, "Jumping spiders have eight eyes; the main eyes are huge and plate-like on their heads, their legs are patterned with alternating black and white stripes, and their ability to jump is a very typical trait that makes them recognizable."

Su Mo’s night vision ability was excellent, and although the situation was urgent, she did briefly observe the basic features of those spiders and supported Li Qian’s statement, "It has a pair of main eyes that are indeed incredibly large, and there are patterns on its abdomen’s pouch as well."

"Level 3 Mutated Jump Spiders," Lu Chen told Rong Bai in a cold voice.

"The only good news is, they generally don’t spin webs when hunting," Li Qian said softly as he adjusted his glasses.

Indeed, not a single jumping spider spat silk at them when the three of them drove back, or else it would have been another fierce battle.

"Alright, let’s put that issue aside for now. What’s the situation at the boundary?" Rong Bai asked with a serious face.

Li Qian and Lu Chen both turned their gazes towards Su Mo, who cleared her throat and spoke with an equally serious and no-nonsense expression, "It’s not good. Just relying on the number of us superpower users, we can’t break through. We need to rescue people."

She pointed at a tall building not far away.

"If we can’t go over the ground, we must take the underground passage," Li Qian said warmly.

The underground passages were intricate and without the guidance of an engineer, even superpower users could not be sure of getting out safely.

Rong Bai turned to look at the pitch-black tall building, where there was no longer any sign of life, and immediately decided, "Tomorrow morning, we rescue people."

It was not advisable to make too much noise at night, so the people on the rooftop dispersed and went downstairs.

To prevent accidents, the number of people keeping watch that night doubled compared to the previous day.

Su Mo and the others returned to their partitioned area, where Jianxiong and Zhao Changsheng were eagerly waiting at the door.

Su Niang was hugging Ling Ye, curled up in a corner, asleep.

"Eat up and go to sleep," Lu Chen said as he took out some biscuits and several sleeping bags from Space and tossed them to the group.

At a time like this, it was most important to conserve energy. Li Qian woke up Su Niang and let the two of them eat something before finding a corner to sleep in.

Zhao Changsheng, after giving Su Mo a once-over from head to toe, also went to sleep reassured.

Exhausted, Su Mo and Lu Chen truly needed rest in their sleeping bags.

"Does your arm still hurt?" she asked softly with her eyes closed.

"It doesn’t hurt. Sleep," Lu Chen replied as he pulled her close, his hand around her waist, and fell asleep.

At the break of dawn, Rong Bai was standing on the rooftop. The people opposite seemed to have sensed something and were already hanging a board outside the wall early in the morning.

Rong Bai had agreed to their request for rescue, based on information just obtained from their Spiritual Ability Users; there was also a superpower user in the opposite building who could hide himself, which is why they had never been detected.

When he came downstairs, everyone was fully armed, and Su Mo and the others had gotten up early as well.

After hurriedly eating something to fill their stomachs, they met up with Rong Bai.

Lu Chen asked him, "Do you have an understanding of the situation on the other side?"

Rong Bai nodded, "If all goes well, there’s also a Spiritual Ability User over there, currently alone on the twelfth floor."

"Then let’s move out," Lu Chen said, leading his group out of the unfinished building first.

The crowd of civilians who had been crammed in the building, thinking they were about to set off, hurriedly swarmed out, afraid of being left behind and getting lost.

Rong Bai did not care to remind them until a long column of troops simply crossed a street and stopped under a tall building, prompting everyone to realize what was happening.

Murmurs and voices continued to echo from behind.

"What’s going on, why are we stopping here?"

"Yeah, why aren’t we moving?"

"..."

Li Chuan dug at his ears, annoyance evident on his pale, eerie face as he stepped out of the vehicle and closed the door with a bit more force than necessary, silencing the voices behind him instantly.

With hands in his pockets, he walked up to Rong Bai, "What are we waiting for?"

Rong Bai glanced at him and led the people in.

Upon entering, they found themselves in a spacious lobby, part of a business building teeming with a notable number of zombies.

Su Mo immediately drew her Tang Blade and sliced off a Level 2 Zombie that lunged at her.

There were no higher-level creatures, only a building full of Level 2 Zombies, which the bulk of the troops could easily handle. Those trapped in their offices weren’t even a concern.

The twelfth floor was quite high, but for the soldiers, this was merely a training opportunity.

Everyone was gearing up with determination to hunt zombies for those up above.

Su Mo had no intention of going upstairs, and so Lu Chen stayed with her on the first floor, where many trapped in their offices were Level 1 Zombies.

After thinking for a moment, she went out and brought Ling Ye down from the car.

Su Niang followed nervously, "Miss Su, where are you taking him?"

"To teach him about the real world," Su Mo replied with a smile as she turned her head.

Ling Ye followed her reluctantly as she forced him into the building.

The ground was littered with zombie corpses, the dark, thick blood emitting a pungent odor that made him shudder uncontrollably, his eyes wide with panic.

Su Mo looked down at his small head and said softly, "I’m going to teach you a lesson today, so you’ll understand the difference between humans and monsters."

"What do you want to do?" He finally mustered up the courage to look up and glare at her.

Su Mo knew he wasn’t inherently bad. It was just that after being influenced by the psychopaths of Happiness District for a long time, he had no concept of zombies.

"What do you think they are?" she asked, pulling him down next to a Level 2 Zombie with a severed head.

Ling Ye trembled and couldn’t say a word. The protruding spine and large patches of subdermal tissue exposed after the skin had peeled away were churning his stomach.

He once asked his mother why the big dog chasing him had tentacles in its mouth, and she had only said the dog was sick. But what about the people?

"Can’t say it?" Su Mo didn’t make it hard for him, rising to her feet and dragging him straight to the door of an office that was being constantly knocked on.

The office, made of glass, gave them a clear view of the zombie’s movements inside.

It was an older middle-aged woman dressed in traditional business attire, tirelessly pounding on the door panel, a Level 1 Zombie.

Su Mo pulled Ling Ye in front of the glass, pressing his face against it, "Take a good look, is it a human or a monster?"

She asked him once again.

The appearance of Level 1 Zombies was generally well-preserved, if one could overlook the purplish-brown streaks at their neck and the pale tint of their irises.

"...Human," Ling Ye replied shakily. In the basement of their district, there were many sick relatives like this.

"Good," Su Mo said as she pulled him to the door, "Then I’ll let you go in and have a word with her."

She was going to use Lu Chen’s method on the boy.

She turned the handle from the outside, kicked the middle-aged zombie back a few steps after opening the door, threw her Tang Blade inside, and said to Ling Ye:

"Let’s play a game. If you can coexist with it for five minutes, I will grant you any request."
