Chapter 104 - 101: Exchange

Chapter 104: Chapter 101: Exchange

Sheng Yuan furrowed his brow, feeling compelled to wait on the side.

"Li Chuan, let’s continue looking for oil," the mercenary suggested again, reminding Li Chuan.

The man’s pale face always wore a strangely enchanting smile, "What do you think they are doing right now?"

A few mercenaries looked at each other with confusion evident in their eyes, thinking wasn’t it just about saving a useless person.

As the boy calmed down, Li Qian also crouched beside him and touched Ling Ye’s head, "Did you sneak out?"

Su Mo turned her head to look at him and then at Lu Chen with an understanding expression on his face, suddenly recalling the group from last night... could it be, they were here to find him?

Sure enough, Ling Ye nodded, his eyes swollen like walnuts as he lowered his head and rubbed with his small hands, "I came out to find medicine for Grandma, they said the medicine in our neighborhood is no longer sufficient."

"Neighborhood?.." Su Mo gently patted his back and softly said, "Do you know where your home is? We’ll take you back."

"I.." Ling Ye hesitated, lowering his head. His mother had warned him not to tell strangers about their neighborhood, but...

He looked up into Su Mo’s clear, large eyes and then at Li Qian’s gentle and refined face, and nodded, "I know."

Su Mo filled her face with as much tenderness as possible and took his hand softly, "Then lead the way for us."

"I will," Lu Chen suddenly stepped forward, took her hand away, and placed the boy’s small hand in his own, leading him.

Ling Ye looked up at the man with the icy demeanor and immediately shrank back a bit in fear.

Lu Chen was very tall, and when leading the child, he always had to lower one shoulder, slowing his steps considerably.

Su Mo followed behind and couldn’t help but want to laugh at the sight, and Jianxiong, not fearing death, laughed first for her, "Boss, those who don’t know might think you have shoulder periarthritis."

"Hahaha," Zhao Changsheng laughed unabashedly, holding his stomach, while Su Niang, following next to Li Qian, could hardly contain her laughter.

The man’s face darkened, his cold eyes swept over Jianxiong who immediately shut his mouth, his dark face flushing slightly.

Lu Chen crouched down and directly picked up Ling Ye, holding him like a doll.

They crossed those disgusting zombie dogs, following Ling Ye’s directions through the white buildings.

Upon reaching a small bridge adorned with several rows of barriers, the buildings on the other side looked much more ancient and normal than this side.

Underneath the bridge was a lake that stretched throughout Lakefront County, pitch black.

Su Mo stood by the edge of the bridge and peered down, barely noticing bubbles emerging continuously from the dark waters, and she stepped back with a frown, feeling somewhat uneasy.

Ling Ye, feeling uncomfortable in Lu Chen’s embrace, twisted his body and pointed straight across, then shouted out loud.

"Mom!"

Li Qian stood by the bridge, squinting his eyes behind his glasses, "They are coming."

Behind the bridge, the sound of cars speeding furiously could be heard.

Li Chuan’s almond eyes narrowed, then he suddenly turned and spoke a few words to a mercenary, who nodded and ran back quickly.

The opposite party clearly noticed them, and a jeep rushed from afar, screeching to a halt in front of the barrier in the middle of the bridge.

"Mom!"

In Lu Chen’s arms, Ling Ye desperately waved his small hands forward, his eyes moistening again.

"Bang"

The silent bullet shot out, and the man quickly dodged, with the bullet hole hitting the ground near his feet.

Su Mo pulled out a Tang Blade while Zhao Changsheng’s enchantingly mesmerizing eyes turned alert, and Jianxiong’s Bone Spur grew out as its massive body blocked the front.

"It seems our new friends aren’t very friendly," said Li Chuan with a sneer, glancing at the child in Lu Chen’s arms.

"What are you doing!" A few fully armed people got out of the car, one of the women slapped the man who had just drawn his gun.

"Mommy!"

Ling Ye became excited upon seeing the woman who hit, wriggling in Lu Chen’s arms.

"Is that your mom?" Su Mo asked Ling Ye, softly.

"Yes!"

"Little Ye!" The woman, with protection from people behind her, took step by step toward them.

Confronted with Jianxiong’s fiendish face and the electricity occasionally flashing in Zhao Changsheng’s hand, she became extremely cautious, stopping on the bridge surface ten meters away from them after walking past some obstacles.

"Are you the group that came to the riverbank last night?"

"Yes, we just wanted to find some gasoline," Li Qian stepped out from behind Jianxiong, polite and refined.

"I can give you gasoline, give me the child," the woman’s eyes fixated intently on Ling Ye in Lu Chen’s arms, her eyes moist with tears.

Hearing his mother say this, Ling Ye struggled more fiercely, and seeing his continuous fussing, Su Mo took him from Lu Chen’s hands.

She cast a comforting glance at the man and smiled, saying to Ling Ye in her arms, "How about Big Sister carries you over?"

"Yes!" Settling into Su Mo’s warm embrace, Ling Ye’s previously tense face relaxed, nodding like a pecking chick.

Lu Chen stared straight at the little head leaning against that soft body, his deep blue eyes filled with displeasure.

Li Qian’s superpower turned into invisible green threads that followed Su Mo, giving him a way to delay any accident a bit.

The opposing side clearly had a Spiritual Ability User among them, of the same level as him, and as Su Mo and the boy got increasingly close to the woman, the opposing Spiritual Ability User also sent out threads to entangle them.

A slight disturbance would trigger a battle.

"I am Su Mo," Su Mo walked step by step toward the woman, putting down Ling Ye and stretching out her hand with a smile.

"Ling Fang," the woman looked at her with suspicion, Su Mo’s face was very deceptive, nevertheless she shook her hand as a polite gesture.

"Mommy, this sister saved me," Ling Ye said as he inched closer to Ling Fang, not embracing her with the tearful reunion Su Mo had envisioned. Instead, he seemed somewhat fearful of his own mother.

When Ling Fang saw her son, she could barely contain her anger, releasing Su Mo’s hand to pull him to her side abruptly and slapped his little bottom, her eyes rimmed red.

"Do you know how worried I was! Why did you sneak out!"

"Don’t you realize how dangerous it is outside! I searched for you all night!"

Heaven knows how desperate she felt after discovering her son was missing.

Ling Ye, though spanked, did not cry. Instead, he bit his lip and softly apologized while hugging Ling Fang’s neck, "I’m sorry Mommy, Aunt Yuan said Grandma was dying, and only the medicine outside could save her..."

Contacted by her son’s apology, Ling Fang’s anger subsided significantly, holding him she said, "Let’s go home and talk about this."

"And the gasoline?" Su Mo asked with a smiling gaze.

"As a thank you for saving my son, I will give you the gasoline, follow me," she told Su Mo, cautiously retreating while holding her son.
