Chapter 58: Food Crisis

Those ability users that had insulted Gong Panli minutes ago circled around five people and were flattering them.

Li Chunhua’s eyes were immediately attracted by a tall man wearing a black windbreaker. His face was cold, and there was a red mole under his right eye. Anyone who saw his face would label him an indifferent beauty with his androgynous looks.

However, that was not the reason why Li Chunhua’s attention was fixed on him, but because of the dense bloodthirsty aura enveloping the man, which made her very uncomfortable.

The man, after noticing her gaze, lifted his head up, and both of their gazes clashed, but it was only fleeting because a person came running and whispered something in the man’s ears.

Lightning Fists’ face changed, and they quickly left for the inner ring, never having the chance to notice Gong Panli beside Li Chunhua. His subordinates followed behind him, and with their departure, the crowd dispersed.

Because of what happened on the wall, none of them dared to say a word again to Gong Panli and only kept their thoughts to themselves.

Gong Panli took a deep breath to calm down before he suggested getting Li Chunhua a resident card since he needed one for her to apply for an apartment.

Li Chunhua accepted immediately, recalling that the resident card he mentioned was needed for people to buy food.

However, halfway through their stroll, Di Jun brought a piece of devastating news: "Sir Gong, bad news. It’s about the greenhouse. All the plants shriveled, and the upper management immediately discussed the food mitigation plan. I’m afraid..."

Di Jun wore a grave expression. He didn’t finish his words because he knew Gong Panli didn’t need him to explain in detail.

He was right. Gong Panli knew what those greedy people would do, and when he remembered the scene, Lightning Fists didn’t stay longer and headed for the inner ring, and his face was full of worry.

Li Chunhua, while listening on the side:( TДT) Are you kidding me?

If the greenhouse is affected, people won’t dare set up stalls or sell food and instead hoard it and consume it sparingly. If that’s the case, her mission will be doomed, and even Mr. Fang and Gong Panli won’t be able to fulfill their promises.

Gong Panli didn’t dawdle anymore and went towards the apartment buildings where the elderly people and the children were residing to plan ahead before implementing anything, in case the gruesome thoughts in his head would manifest.

Di Jun followed behind anxiously.

The deflated Li Chunhua also followed, silently hoping the situation was still not irreversible.

However, when the three arrived at the dilapidated buildings in the Outer District, chaos had already ensued.

"If you take all of that, our family wouldn’t be able to eat, and we’ll starve. Please leave some."

"If you have any objections about the management’s order, then leave the base."

Leave the base? They can’t. There’s no more refuge out there.

"I paid for all of that. Give it back!"

"Big Brother, that’s our food and water for the next few days. My sister, please, just for my sister."

"If you don’t let go, you and your sister will be baits in the next tide."

The child let go of the food before embracing his sister and scurrying away in fear.

The officer snickered.

"Listen up. If any of you dare to hide food from now on, the base will enforce severe punishment," the one leading the raid announced in a loud voice, painting looks of despair on the helpless people’s faces.

Occupants of the building were ordered to get out of the room and gather in the small plaza while they conducted the search.

People tried to defy and seize the food back, but because of the difference in strength between sides, they were unable to, leading them to fall into a passive state.

Li Chunhua spotted Siri and Little Mantou on a different spot and were helping the people.

More than a dozen armed people loaded the trucks before driving them to the inner ring.

"What are you doing? It’s not yours...hmmm." A pair of wrinkly hands covered Li Chunhua’s mouth and grabbed her wrist.

"Lass, stay still, or you’ll make it worse." Mr. Fang, who had been on the scene for quite some time, spotted them and stopped Li Chunhua hurriedly.

He knew this lady’s temper, and if she makes a move, these people might not be able to get out of here unscathed, but the consequences will be disastrous.

Di Jun was also helpless. This decision was, after all, supported by ability users, and if the Outer District refused and rebelled, it would be inevitable that further chaos would occur, leading to injuries and, at worst, deaths, and without a doubt most of it would be on the Outer District’s side.

Gong Panli was calmer in handling the matter, and he approached one of the men and asked, "What’s the meaning of this, Mr.?"

The man lifted his head and saw that it was Gong Panli. He answered honestly, "Mr. Gong, the directors made this decision. From now on, all the food will be under their management, and strict distribution will be implemented."

Gong Panli’s heart beat chaotically. "Is there any way that Mr. can leave at least 20% of the food?"

The officer shook his head. "Mr. Gong, you might not know it, but if we violate the order, our food allowance will be cancelled instead. I’m sorry."

The grandparents and children were very hopeful when they saw Gong Panli was trying to talk to the officer. But once they saw the trucks drive off and Gong Panli’s lowered head, they cried in despair.

The Outer District is done for.

---

Inside Mr.Fang’s Fitness Center, Gong Panli punched the wall with all his strength to vent his anger before he slid down on the wall, cupping his face with his blood-stained hands.

His form was shrouded in gloom and sadness.

"Why can’t they just live in harmony? Why can’t they see that I was also doing it for them? They will also age, and those children will replace them in protecting the base, and when they’re old and unable to take care of their daily meals like the elders now, the policy will provide it to them for free."

Gong Panli mumbled while looking absentmindedly at the debris that was still not cleaned up.

"Even if you complain, nothing will change. Get up and let me treat your wound." Mr. Fang approached Gong Panli, intending to pacify his mood, but Gong Panli didn’t obey and remained slumped on the floor.

Li Chunhua, Siri, and Little Mantou, despite having varied thoughts, felt sympathy for him and worried about the progress of their master’s mission at the same time.

It can’t be that they’ll rot in here, right?

It was the first time Li Chunhua had seen Gong Panli cry. She wasn’t good at spouting comforting words.

But she remembered that when she was sad, her master and her senior sister would give her food, and it would always lifted her mood. Maybe it also helped reduce Gong Panli’s cries.

She recalled she still had that cake from the treasure chest.

Wait!

A lightbulb flashed above Li Chunhua’s head.

( 0.0)✧!

Right! Treasure chests have food and water!
