Chapter 48: The Farming Gurus
Chapter 48: The Farming Gurus
The Global Chat was instantly filled with #8950’s customers warning the others about his scam because of the nonsensical contents of the video.
They thought they would see someone demonstrating the proper process of farming, but instead they saw a monkey shaking its butt, dancing around the fields like a drunken man with its weird moves while shouting incoherent words.
The customers on the global chat demanded a refund. Otherwise, they will not stop disrupting #8950’s business.
#8950 only responded, ’Wait ’til you see the end of the video before claiming my business is a scam.’
Thus, the buyers went back and did what #8950 said, and all of them sprang to their feet when they saw small green shoots sprouting on the soil after the monkey finished his drunken dancing ritual.
Dang!
⊙0⊙!
We could farm now with just shaking out butts? So high-tech!
Then the players looked around their territory, and when they saw there was no one looking, they made holes and carefully tossed the one seed per foot in distance before imitating what the monkey did with more vigor and finesse, even mumbling their prayers to the heavens in the midst.
But in the end, not one of the seeds sprouted.
They did it again, thinking their efforts were not enough until they were drenched in sweat, but still there was no shadow of the tiny shoots.
Thus, they did it once more, and this time, their movements were bone-breaking, their hips twisted like worms, and even their limbs bent at an impossible angle.

But they still didn’t succeed, which made them turn towards #8950 in despair, and the latter only responded.
[#8950]: Buddy, it’s not my fault you have two left feet, but don’t give up and keep shaking that butt, and one day your efforts will bear fruit.
#8950’s Customers: 〒▽〒 By then, maybe they’re already starving to death.

Some may try to take advantage of the oblivious players but not all of the self-proclaimed farming gurus in the global chat were swindlers.
Some were really genuine, but the difference was the amount of extensive knowledge these gurus possessed.
In an unknown territory, a man dressed in a white lab coat and casual attire, whose age was hovering over the mid-50’s to late, was worrying about how to obtain offerings for the summoning platform.
Apart from the necessary building materials that he had already consumed to establish his territory, his inventory had no more items left besides the wild fruits, wild vegetables, mushrooms, and wild herbs he had accumulated through roaming the forest while the system retrieved the monsters.
Since he knew that, with his low basic stats, gaining food from killing monsters wasn’t going to be easy, he needed to be prudent in consuming his supplies.
Planting may not work because the cycle is long and the monster tide will arrive in six days.
Those cat-like monsters were still incessantly attacking the barrier, and there was no way for him to replenish them, and even the wood needed for the bonfire was dwindling. It may not be enough for the rest of the night.
His aging body might be younger in terms of strength and have more stamina than before, but it was still prone to colds and diseases, which the system referred to as status ailments.
He had been considering summoning a native, but there were some complaints that were popping up in the Global Chat occasionally because of their native being so weak. Not all were lucky enough to get a paladin, a druid, or a dwarf like the others.
Looking at his luck stats of [4], he sighed. He opened up the global chat once more and read the bulletin screens.
The players were talking about how to grow this and that.
They mentioned a variety of vegetables like tomatoes, cucumber, bell pepper, okra, eggplant, bok choy, radish, carrots, leeks, bitter melon, and etc.
The old man was very interested in the topics because he was a researcher in the agricultural field, and he couldn’t help responding to a player’s question.
[Brother Niu]: How are cabbages planted? What should I consider when planting it? How long does it take to bear fruit? How much water does it need?
[Green Thumb]: Sow seeds ¼ to ½ inch deep two to three weeks prior. Plant cabbage seeds sparingly, spacing them 12–18 inches apart in rows that are 2-3 feet apart. Fertilization should not occur when the head is forming, since this leads to excessive leaf development and head splitting. Watering should be sparse and deep.
Some players haggling over the prices of their lessons noticed this post and immediately sent the player ’Green Thumb’ a message wanting to ask for a detailed guide.
Because, compared to others, his post had more sense and was very specific.
The old man wanted to elaborate more, but suddenly the number of messages in his inbox soared like a rocket.
He skimmed through the messages and was astounded at the contents.
The players and even some teams were actually asking his guide for items in exchange for items, prompting him to take a mouthful of air.
This is a blessing in disguise!
The old man used the opportunity to accumulate supplies, and not long after, he had amassed more than he anticipated, which means he can summon a native now and even construct his territory buildings.
Even with the change in environment, knowledge was without a doubt a treasure.
And he wasn’t the only one benefiting from it. Even others in similar situations were able to exchange their knowledge for supplies, and these became beacons of hope and the birth of lifestyle players.
In a territory somewhere in a large clearing, near a stream, a middle-aged woman was sitting beside a small table filled with wooden plates and bowls, full of food, wonton soup, deep fried dumpling, gyozas, some other side dishes from the wild vegetable they found in the forest.
She kept tapping the screen as her forehead wrinkled from anxiety.
The system notification kept ringing in her ears.
[Due to special circumstances, your friend Little Baozi is unable to receive messages and items.]
"What’s the problem, honey?" her husband asked after noticing that the food allocated as their benefactor’s share was still on the table.
"I couldn’t send the breakfast to Baozi. The system says I’m unable to due to special reasons. I hoped nothing bad happened to him." She sighed before continuing to click on the name.
Her husband also checked the trade market and tried messaging Player Baozi but failed to, rendering both of them helpless.
Suddenly, they heard a system notification and a screen with a shimmering golden frame—one that only comes when a system announces a player’s great achievements—appear in front of their eyes and in every player’s.
