Chapter 17: Prince charming to the rescue part 1
"Dalton!" Maya let out a cry of relief.
Dalton couldn’t respond as the bodyguard lunged at him. With agility, Dalton ducked and kicked the bodyguard in the torso, sending him flying.
Dalton reached for the bodyguard and slammed him against the wall. Then, he grabbed him again and began throwing punches at his face, brutally pummeling him.
Maya watched in shock as Dalton mercilessly and fiercely beat up the bodyguard.
Dalton stopped when the bodyguard either passed out or died....
Did he kill him with his fist? Maya wondered anxiously.
Dalton stood up and majestically cleaned his bloody knuckles with a handkerchief. He showed no emotion; his face was masked by a calm, stony expression.
Dalton cleared his throat. "I apologize for you having to witness that brutality," he said, his tone was nonchalant, as if beating up the bodyguard were merely an inconvenience.
"It’s F-fine," Maya stuttered. The guy deserved it. Violence is all she has ever known; she is a victim of violence, so she is not really that fazed.
When Maya regained her senses, she remembered that her dress was shredded and she was practically half-naked. She quickly wrapped her arms around her body to hide from Dalton.
"Oh, sorry," Dalton quickly averted his eyes. He shut his eyes and removed his coat.
"Here," he said, tossing the coat to Maya while keeping his eyes closed.
Maya quickly put on the coat and buttoned it up.
"I’m done,"
Dalton opened his eyes. Maya felt much better now that she was covered up.
She smiled at Dalton. "Than- "
"Come with me," Dalton cut her off, extending his hand. Maya trustingly placed her palm in his, and Dalton intertwined their fingers. She felt an electric tingling sensation as their skin made contact. She blushed profusely as he led her downstairs.
The party was still lively as the elite guests chatted and indulged in liquor.
They passed a back door leading outside. Dalton guided her to a black car that she assumed must be his. He opened the car door and urged Maya to get in.
Maya sat in and Dalton follows suit sitting at the driver’s seat
Maya avoided his piercing green eyes, afraid he might bombard her with questions. However, Dalton didn’t do that; instead, he pulled a first-aid kit from the glove box under the car seat. "Are you hurt anywhere else besides your face?" he asked as his eyes searched her face.
Maya shakes her head, even though her throat hurts and a migraine is pounding in her head. She plans to take her painkillers. She will be fine.
Dalton begins cleaning the cuts and bruises on her face, as well as her bleeding nose.
The bodyguard really caused some damage when he hit her in the face. She took a quick glance at her reflection in the rearview mirror. She looked like she had been in a boxing match. She might have a black eye by tomorrow.
When Dalton rubbed the cotton soaked in a antibiotics on her bruised lower lip, Maya groaned in pain. Her lips could never catch a break! They had been bruised twice in one day!
"Sorry, I will be gentle." He was now more careful as he treated her bruises. He proceeded to cover a cut above her eyebrow with a Band-Aid.
"Done," he said as he placed the first aid kit back into the glove compartment under the seat.
"Thank you for treating my bruises," Maya said, her eyes softening with an inner glow of gratitude. Suddenly, she hugged Dalton tightly, her voice cracked as she sobbed. If Dalton hadn’t shown up, that man could have violated her.
Dalton stiffened for a few seconds before wrapping his arms around her. "It’s alright; you are safe. That bastard can’t hurt you anymore," he assured her.
Maya felt an overwhelming warmth rush through her heart, making it thud softly. She got spooked and quickly pulled away.
"Sorry, I didn’t mean to do that!" she said as she sank down into the seat. Gosh, she wished she could disappear. Why did she hug him, crossing boundaries? He is her boss now... well, starting in a few days . That was so unprofessional!
Dalton acted nonchalantly, as if she hadn’t just inconvenienced him with that hug. "Here," he said, handing her the box of tissues that was lying on the dashboard.
"Oh, thanks," Maya said as she took the tissue box from his grasp. She pulled out a few tissues and used them to wipe away the tear stains on her cheeks.
Maya was ready to open up and tell Dalton everything because he was her savior and more powerful than her stepfather. She parted her lips to speak but abruptly closed them. She hesitated to say anything because she suddenly remembered what her stepfather had told her.
According to Natalia, Dalton has been a member of the gentlemen’s club for three years. He may be one of the men whom the waitresses are compelled to sleep with.
Or does he just want to buy the gentlemen’s club?
"No," Maya said to herself. She dismissed that idea. If he had wanted to buy the gentlemen’s club, he would have done so a long time ago.
Maya looked at Dalton with suspicion. "Do you want to buy the gentlemen’s club, Company Eater?"
Dalton stared at her sternly. "You’ve heard about my infamous reputation," he said, his tone sharp and cold.
"Y-Yeah," Maya felt anxious as she became weary of him. He is exuding the powerful aura he was eluding the first time they met.
Dalton’s face suddenly shifted to a more neutral expression; the stern look had vanished, allowing Maya to release a breath she didn’t realize she had been holding.
"I actually hate Venus City. I only go there because of Aiden. I need to keep an eye on him; otherwise, he might lash out. Venus City is his hunting ground for his chaotic endeavors," he explains.
"Oh," Maya sighed. Natalia had told her that Aiden was a maniac who needed to be monitored by Dalton, or he would do something crazy.
Maya felt a sense of relief. Dalton was not like those other men. However, she still lacked the courage to open up and share her sob story with him.
"Maya," Dalton called softly, making her look at him. His green eyes dipped into her eyes as he said, "You look beautiful tonight."
Maya gasped, rendered speechless, and butterflies plummed in her stomach.
