Chapter 1031: Chapter 1022: New Year (4)

Old Master Bo shook his head helplessly; once a move is made, there’s no turning back. He had already chosen Bo Qiliu and Bo Yi, and Bo Yan had long delved into the entertainment industry. Facts prove that as long as one is smart and hardworking, they can achieve success anywhere. Now he’s eighty years old, but neither his sons nor grandsons have amounted to much so far. Having more children doesn’t necessarily solve anything—their abilities still fall short of commanding respect. He had no choice but to continue working for a few more years, sharpening things.

When Old Master Bo thought of Bo Yan, Xia Youbiao was also thinking about his daughter. Not long ago, he went to check on Xia Sicai—everything here was set up nicely, with all accommodations tailored to her identity as a pregnant woman. Even he, as her father, found everything particularly thoughtful.

But this younger daughter of his—day after day. She insisted on pursuing acting before, getting scolded harshly and still refusing to come home. After marrying Bo Yan, the two didn’t seem to share much affection. As her father, he was almost driven to despair. Now that her relationship with Bo Yan has improved, she herself starts acting out again—whether it’s jumping off cliffs or intensive dance practice, she spends 360 out of 365 days of the year outside, even busier than him, the chairman.

It’s New Year’s Eve today, and she still hasn’t returned. The Bo Family is celebrating joyously, seemingly having entirely forgotten these two, as if they weren’t part of it at all. After chatting for over an hour, not a single word about them was mentioned. The more festive the Bo Family seemed, the more pitiful the two of them felt.

The time gradually reached midday—it’s the New Year, after all, and other families have to return to their own homes, unlike Old Master Bo’s grand birthday celebration where everyone partied in extravagance.

The men had cycled through several rounds of tea, while the kitchen grew bustling, readying to serve dishes. The grandfather clock in the house chimed as Old Master Bo glanced at the time. Finally, after they were all seated, he mentioned Bo Yan’s name for the first time: “When are Ayan and his family arriving?”

The butler stepped forward to answer, “We’ve already sent someone to pick them up. The flight landed at half past eleven; it’ll take another half hour or so for them to get here.”

That means around half past twelve. Old Master Bo nodded knowingly, then sat for a while longer before getting up to head to the dining room at twelve twenty.

The dining room was packed with two families seated. Once seated, Bo Yi turned to his wife first: “How are you feeling? Have you been experiencing any pregnancy nausea lately? Should I have the kitchen swap out the fish and the big meat dishes?”

Xia Sicai shook her head: “We should keep the fish—having an abundance year after year is auspicious. It’s alright if I don’t eat it.”

She was now five months pregnant and had been careful with her health, so she wasn’t showing much yet—just wearing looser clothing. Lately, her morning sickness hadn’t been too severe.

But after they finished talking about the baby, the family could only sit and wait. Three or five minutes passed, and it was Bo Yi who couldn’t hide his impatience: “How much longer do we have to wait? We can wait, but the child shouldn’t have to.”

Bo Qiliu, though his expression remained composed, already looked quite irritated: “It’s New Year’s. Of course, it’s better if everyone’s here.”

Although he didn’t say it outright, everyone understood—he was implying that the entire family was waiting solely for those two, and for two junior members at that; it was utterly unreasonable.

Mrs. Tong also felt a bit displeased, but as a guest, it wasn’t her place to comment excessively. She merely turned to her daughter: “Once the baby’s born, you’ll have to spend time educating them, teach them some manners…”

Xia Youbiao frowned upon hearing this but couldn’t argue either, given he was visiting as a guest. His face, however, showed clear displeasure.

Before the words had fully settled, the sound of a car echoed from the door.
