Chapter 1030: Chapter 1021: New Year (3)
The Bo Family’s old residence.
Today, the Bo Family was exceptionally festive.
Lanterns hung high, spring couplets adorned the walls, and red lanterns swayed in the breeze, filling the air with jubilance. Even the house servants received double red envelopes—it was truly a day to usher out the old and welcome the new.
At ten in the morning, Mrs. Tong had already rushed over eagerly. Ever since she divorced Xia Youbiao, while they still had mutual interests in major affairs and she retained her position in the company, and the elders in the family still acknowledged her, the relationship was no longer close enough to merit regular interactions. For Mrs. Tong, the past year had been quite favorable—her son was doing very well, showing considerable capability, and the designs he recently launched were highly popular. As for her daughter, Siyu’s husband entered the core management of Bosch last year, and barring any accidents, should seamlessly inherit the company. What’s more, her daughter was now pregnant—and it was a boy. Although in a family like the Bo Family, gender didn’t matter much; if needed, one could always have more children. Still, having a boy provided a greater sense of assurance.
The most crucial point was that her son-in-law deeply cared for her daughter. Since arriving at the Bo Family, he was courteous and attentive, constantly showing concern for her daughter’s well-being. When Xia Sicai coyly mentioned, “I want cherries, not strawberries,” her husband even personally washed and prepared the cherries, then served them to her.
Mrs. Tong grew increasingly pleased with this son-in-law. Tellingly, when Sicai previously liked Bo Yan and was determined to pursue him, she hadn’t been optimistic about it. No matter how handsome or intelligent Bo Yan was, without support from his father, inheriting Bosch was wishful thinking. Besides, a child without parents was bound to harbor a sensitive disposition.
As things turned out, Bo Yan eventually became an actor. Though currently making waves in the entertainment industry, the very fact that he chose such an unconventional path only proved how thoroughly the Bo Family had abandoned him, forcing him to find another way out. Compared to Bo Yi, whose future was bright and who treated her daughter so well, Bo Yan simply couldn’t compete—it was an ideal pairing.
Still, Mrs. Tong couldn’t banish the lingering fear that her daughter might still harbor feelings for Bo Yan, especially after he spitefully married Xia Siyu. Such matters, however, weren’t something she could easily broach; the more she asked, the likelier she would provoke her daughter’s sensitive inner thoughts.
For now, things seemed harmonious between her daughter and Bo Yi. Perhaps with the arrival of a child, their relationship would grow even stronger. After all, youthful infatuations are unreliable; a good marriage depends on compatibility. Without mutual compatibility, no matter how deep the affection, one eventually becomes resentful partners.
Not long afterward, Xia Youbiao and Xia Ju’an also arrived. The father-and-son duo showed up a bit later than expected. Although they had visited the Bo Family frequently as relatives, coming here on New Year’s Eve was a first. Their visit, however, wasn’t merely for a festive dinner.
After briefly checking on Xia Sicai, Xia Youbiao and Xia Ju’an joined Bo Qiliu and the Old Master Bo in the tea room to discuss business matters.
While Shengxia Furniture mainly focused on furniture, it also operated in interior design. Bosch had been eyeing the long-term rental apartment sector in recent years and particularly favored investment in major cities. Their newly acquired apartment buildings needed minor renovations before they could be rented out, and Shengxia aimed to secure these orders.
Though they were in-laws, they were also businessmen. However, it being the holiday, there was no need to delve too deeply into business matters. The men gathered instead to drink tea and chat casually. Old Master Bo had met with Xia Youbiao and Xia Ju’an several times in the past; and now, comparing his own son and grandson—Bo Qiliu and Bo Yi—with them, Xia Youbiao clearly outshone Bo Qiliu, while Xia Ju’an appeared more composed than Bo Yi.
Perhaps, in the future, the dynamics between the Bo Family and the Xia Family might shift. It could very well be the Bo Family relying more heavily on the Xia Family.
If the successor were Bo Yan…
