Chapter 1028: Chapter 1019: New Year (1)

Xia Siyu blinked again. “What do you mean?”

Just now, this guy was quoting old literature one sentence after another. Bo Yan thought she had understood him. Turns out, she’s still clueless—fallen victim to her lack of learning.

He simplified it for her: “You idiot, what I’m afraid of is that, if we go public, you won’t be able to handle the backlash and will want to cut ties with me. What I’m worried about… is you leaving me.”

Fans are important, but he wasn’t living his life for their sake. He couldn’t possibly fulfill every fan’s wish to stay single forever, never marry, and grow old while keeping them company.

Once they become public, he wouldn’t deny it, but it would inevitably trigger a chain effect. Xia Siyu would face harsher attacks. As for himself, worst-case scenario, he could give up being an actor, transition to working behind the scenes, take a few years to sharpen his skills, become a director, learn more, and eventually come back with new works.

Both he and Xia Siyu were worrying about one another. This made him feel both touched and guilty. As a man, he felt incapable of protecting his woman.

But then, on second thought, Xia Siyu wasn’t a delicate flower kept inside a greenhouse. She didn’t need his overly cautious care. If he was a tree, she wasn’t the flower—she was the vine. They depended on one another, weathering storms together.

Xia Siyu shook her head and clicked her tongue. “Honestly, I’ve thought about leaving you too. You can be pretty annoying sometimes.”

Bo Yan froze for a moment, just about to defend himself when Xia Siyu continued, “But then I thought about it… finding another man who’s tall, handsome, has a good build, decent ‘parts,’ and isn’t a sleazy creep—well, that probably wouldn’t be too easy. So, really, what choice do I have? We’re already married. What am I supposed to do, divorce you? Guess I’ll just settle for it.”

Bo Yan was both irritated and amused. Mimicking her tone, he retorted, “I feel the same. If it wasn’t for the fact you look good, have a nice chest, a slim waist, long legs, plus that dancer’s flexibility, your rotten temper would’ve scared off eleven out of ten men. But what can I do? I’m hopeless too. Divorce even has a mandatory cooling-off period now, and after cooling off, the reply would probably be ‘denied.’ So I’ll have to pinch my nose and accept it.”

As the two jokingly “settled for each other,” the previously heavy conversation lightened up in an instant, as Xia Siyu’s witty banter slid through like a playful tackle. If they stayed gloomy all the time, their shared atmosphere would likely end up downright depressing. Bo Yan didn’t see himself as a particularly sunny person. But when he was with her, he felt like his heart was bathed in sunlight.

Amid their bickering and bantering, time passed, and by noon the next day, Xia Siyu finally got to enjoy a seafood feast.

She had imagined that their honeymoon would be all about sweet romance, being lovey-dovey to the extreme, sugary sweet words layered with deception. But in reality, aside from eating meals and soaking up the sun, the odd seashell hunt along the beach or swim in the ocean, most of the time was spent discussing scripts, analyzing characters, and practicing acting techniques. They had even declined all the hotel’s recreational activities—things like snorkeling, banana boating, and sea planes—they didn’t need any of it.

By evening, the two strolled barefoot along the beach, with the sunset’s glow blanketing the scene. On this small island, it was just the two of them. She could run carefree, tease him, laugh out loud without holding back.

In the past, even on dates, they had to be cautious, forever fearful of being spotted by others. But here, there was no such worry. The world belonged to them entirely.

The original plan was to stay two days, but they extended their stay by one more day, leaving only on the morning of New Year’s Eve.

As they were leaving, Xia Siyu felt a hint of reluctance. “We’ll come back someday, won’t we?”
