Chapter 287: Chapter 252: Slaying Scorpion Spirit, Six Ears Should Appear
It is said that Laojun took away Rhinoceros King and Golden Helmet Mountain naturally became deserted, trees fell and Macacas scattered, and a group of Little Demons were driven away by Wukong.
Along this journey, they should have reached the Women’s Kingdom by now.
The difficulty in the Women’s Kingdom was merely Tang Sanzang’s ordeal of love. Born with a fair complexion and tender skin, Tang Sanzang, despite being bald, could still be considered a handsome man. Moreover, there had never been a man in the Women’s Kingdom before, so the king wanted to keep Tang Sanzang. Wukong simply transformed Tang Sanzang into the appearance of a woman and then changed the Travel Pass, thus naturally passing through the Women’s Kingdom.
Wukong had foreseen how the ordeal would unfold, so naturally, he did not need to drink the river water of the Women’s Kingdom. In doing so, Tang Sanzang would not become pregnant with a ghost child, and he would not need to go up the mountain to fight that Daoist Priest for water.
In the Four Great Continents, there are many hermits. Presumably, that Taoist guarding the mountain spring water was also a secluded high-ranking hermit.
The master and disciples left the Women’s Kingdom just to find themselves at Pipa Cave, where a Scorpion Demon resided with high mana. In a former life, it had beaten Wukong so badly that he cried for his father and called for his mother, until the Orion Star Official was summoned. This Orion Star Official was brimming with yang energy, controlling the power of the sun. When he shone the sun at the Scorpion Demon, it transformed into a rooster crowing twice, self-defeating without a fight. In this world, yin and yang complement each other and also restrict each other. However, the disparity in mana between Orion Star Official and the Scorpion Demon was substantial, suggesting something mysterious.
Along the way, they encountered the Scorpion Demon, who had once stung Tathagata, causing even him to scream in pain, indicating its ferocity.
Wukong knew this was one of the disasters. Suddenly, the Scorpion Demon transformed into a malicious wind and pounced, attempting to capture Tang Sanzang!
Wukong shouted, "How daring, where are you from!"
He pulled out Jingu Bang from his ears, gave it a shake, and it transformed into a bowl-sized stick one Zhang long, striking the malicious wind.
The Scorpion Demon, taken aback, quickly pulled out a steel fork to strike at Wukong!
Wukong was prepared. With a stick weighing 13,500 jin and his innate divine strength, he struck the Scorpion Demon’s steel fork, creating a crisp sound. The Scorpion Demon’s wrists immediately went numb from the pain, and she tumbled out of the malicious wind, scattering her Escape Technique. Wukong opened his mouth and let out a Divine Whip, which shook and hovered in the air. It emitted twenty-one divine lights, with eighty-four talismans flickering continuosly as they moved towards the Scorpion Demon’s head.
The Scorpion Demon cried out, "Oh, the God-Beating Whip!"
In a rush, she raised her steel fork, and as the God-Beating Whip struck with a booming sound onto the fork, the Scorpion Demon tumbled again, rolling on the ground covered in dust.
Wukong couldn’t help but inwardly smirk, "In previous lives, you were more formidable than me, but now defeating you is as easy as turning over my hand!"
The Scorpion Demon’s mana was not very high, just that her innate divine ability was fierce, especially her tail, which exudes a potent poison – even a sting to Tathagata would make him cry out in pain.
Bajie and Sha Wujing both stepped back and tightly protected Tang Sanzang, while Tang Sanzang was reciting scriptures, specifically the "Prajnaparamita Heart Sutra."
This sutra had been in Buddhism for a long time, but had not spread in the mortal world; it was passed to Tang Sanzang and others by Wu Chao Zen Master, who was an incarnation of Donghuang Taiyi. Wukong had not seen the original text of this scripture and did not know the differences between what was hidden in Buddhism and what Wu Chao Zen Master had taught. Since Tathagata took over Buddhism, he had drastically altered Buddhist Law. Presumably, the original text had long been altered beyond recognition, just for brainwashing purposes.
The Scorpion Demon shook and revealed a long tail, aiming it at Wukong to stab. This tail was fierce; one stab could make one suffer unbearably.
Wukong hurriedly wielded Jingu Bang, blocking the Scorpion Demon’s long tail. The God-Beating Whip swung again, striking at the Scorpion Demon!
This Scorpion Demon relied heavily on her innate divine ability, without much in the way of Magical Treasures; however, Wukong had numerous Magical Treasures, making the fight with the Scorpion Demon relatively effortless.
"Watch the whip!" Wukong shouted loudly, another Tai Sui Whip appearing in his hand, whistling as he swung it out.
"Snap!"
The whip struck directly onto the Scorpion Demon, who was immediately battered and bruised by the Tai Sui Whip. Although it was not the genuine article from the Leader of Heaven-Penetrating, it still wielded a pressure as formidable as that from Primordial Chaos. Such a whip descending left the Scorpion Demon’s primordial spirit nearly jolted out of her body.
This was akin to Wukong’s encounter with Rhinoceros King, who managed to cover him in dirt with just a Vajra Bracelet. Although the Scorpion Demon’s innate divine ability was strong, if Wukong had not utilized Magical Treasures and faced her alone, he might have been stung. But with all Magical Treasures deployed and both the male and female Divine Whips wielding their power in unison, how could the Scorpion Demon possibly be his match?
"Along this Journey to the West, there have indeed been many short-sighted demons. You, Scorpion Demon, lack respect! Are you aiming to become a ghost under my staff today?" Wukong cursed.
The Scorpion Demon replied, "I am not my own master!"
After saying this, she already transformed, revealing her true form—a gigantic black scorpion. Her long tail swept over like a Divine Whip.
Wukong twirled his Jingu Bang, easily deflecting the incoming tail, thinking to himself, "This Scorpion Demon says she isn’t her own master, likely controlled by the Buddhist sect! This matter must be tied to a struggle between Buddhism and Daoism. Since she’s sent by the Buddhist sect, I might as well finish her with one strike! Let Tathagata’s myriad schemes die unborn."
Wukong pressed on his forehead and unleashed the City of Thunder. Once the city appeared, it expanded instantly. Wukong leaped up and landed on top of the City of Thunder.
He stood on the city wall like a general on a battlefield, commanding troops. However, within the City of Thunder, there weren’t troops but a hundred and eight Ancient Thunder Cannons!
Wukong formed a spell with his fingers and pointed at the Scorpion Demon. The hundred and eight Ancient Thunder Cannons simultaneously aimed at her and with a loud boom, followed by successive blasts, the cannons fired continuously. Thunder Cannon shells were hurled outward!
"My God, the power of this Magical Treasure is terrifying. It’s actually firing Divine Thunder!" Bajie couldn’t help but exclaim in fear and trembling.
The hundred and eight Divine Thunders fell, and the Scorpion Demon hastily dodged, but thunder filled every inch of space around her, leaving no escape. Amidst a series of muffled explosions, the Scorpion Demon was instantly blown into bits by the Ancient Thunder Cannons. Before her Primordial Spirit could escape, another Ancient Thunder Cannon fired, and the thunder cannon shell struck the Scorpion Demon’s Primordial Spirit directly, killing it instantly.
Scorpions are Yin by nature, and thunder is the utmost Yang, which strongly suppresses her! With a single command of the Ancient Thunder Cannons, Wukong ended the life of the Scorpion Demon, causing her millennia of cultivation to disperse like drawing a cake on paper, without even a chance for reincarnation. Truly pitiful.
"Boundless Heavenly Immortal! Though our paths differ, we shall not scheme against each other," Wukong uttered softly with a hand raised.
Throughout this journey, having slain numerous demons, naturally, those sent by the Buddhist sect spared none, while those sent by the Daoist sect still had some way out.
Wukong swiftly killed the Scorpion Demon—a matter of moments—and now his mana was extremely powerful. Ordinary fairies were no match for him. As a Mixed Yuan Golden Immortal First Layer, even Guanyin only reached this realm. Among the Four Great Bodhisattvas, only Ksitigarbha King could handle him; the rest, if confronted by him, it was hard to say who would win or lose.
"Namo Amitabha Buddha!" Tang Sanzang couldn’t help but bring his palms together and heaved a quiet sigh.
Taking life is a great taboo in Buddhism, but even the Buddha Ancestor has his moments of becoming Wrathful Vajra. Acala is the manifestation of the Buddha Ancestor’s wrath, serving as the Protector Vajra! The Buddha Ancestor spreads Buddhist Law and wishes to ferry all beings; Vidyaraja stands as the Protector Vajra, slaying all invading demons! Thus, it could be said that Tang Sanzang is Tathagata and Wukong is Acala. Tang Sanzang seeks the scriptures to ferry all beings, facing evil and crooked paths along the journey, while Wukong upholds the justice of Buddhism, embodying Vidyaraja, and slaying all invading demons.
Bajie and Sha Wujing also put their palms together ceremoniously and murmured, "Namo Amitabha Buddha."
Wukong said, "This Scorpion Demon, I don’t know where she came from, but since she intended to harm the elder, she deserved to be killed! Elder, there’s no need for self-blame; after all, it is your duty to seek the scriptures to ferry all beings."
Tang Sanzang replied, "This monk understands well. Although the goal is to ferry all beings, there is also the heavy responsibility of subduing demons. Namo Amitabha, I only wish she will reincarnate as a better person in her next life."
The three brothers thought to themselves, "This Scorpion Demon has already had her soul shattered, her Primordial Spirit blown apart—how is there any talk of reincarnation in the next life?"
Having slain the Scorpion Demon, the master and disciples continued on the road, heading towards the West.
Wukong couldn’t help but think to himself: "Having killed the Scorpion Demon, there should be robbers blocking the road ahead, and then the Six-Eared Macaque is due to appear. But I wonder if Tathagata will release the Six-Eared Macaque this time? If he really does, wouldn’t he be turned into mush with just two strikes from my staff? Tathagata might use the initiation method to enhance his cultivation, but to achieve the Mixed Yuan Golden Immortal, more importantly, he needs to comprehend the principles; otherwise, he cannot condense the Primordial Dao Fruit, no match for me at all."
Over the years, Wukong had his brothers search for the Six-Eared Macaque’s whereabouts, but they never found him. Now in Journey to the West, having passed the test of the Scorpion Demon, it should be time for the Six-Eared Macaque to appear.
