The Baroness Misbehaves
Chapter 71: Divorce Her (1)

Chapter 71: Divorce Her (1)

The next day, Madeline found it difficult to get over the conversation she had with Cas under the soft grass last night. His response had left her in a subtle daze and as though he sensed her nonplussed reaction, he decided they postpone the conversation for another day, not willing to ruin the lovely night they were having over something regarding the abandoned area of the mansion.

When she asked him out of pure curiosity, she was hoping he’d tell her what mysteries were installed in there to satisfy her inquiring mind, but to her unexpected surprise, he volunteered to follow and scout the area with her if she really wants to know the secrets behind the abandoned area of the mansion, and she had to admit that it was quite a tempting offer.

"No no, such tempting offers always end up in future disaster, maybe I should refuse." Madeline thought out loud as she strolled through the empty corridor, looking spaced out as she bit at her nails. "I won’t be able to forgive myself if I get him into any trouble with his father. What if something goes wrong??"

She shook her head at the thought, agreeing not to go with the idea of trespassing. Cassian isn’t on good terms with his father, and if she makes him do what his father had forbidden for everyone, she’ll be breaking them apart even further, and that isn’t her intention.

"No Maddie, curiosity won’t kill the cat today." She made up her mind and quickened her steps, pushing aside the foreboding thoughts to the back of her mind.

She was heading for Inna’s room to see how the girl was doing when someone abruptly grabbed her hand without warning and dragged her to the side.

She was pulled right into an empty room, and before she could react to who had grabbed her so indecently, she was being backed against the wall with someone’s fingers wrapped around her neck, ready to choke her.

"Did you seriously think I’d let you get away after what you did to me? You bitch!" Jeremy’s annoyed tone made its way into her ear and an unknown fear gripped her chest. Madeline’s eyes instantly locked against his and his grip around her neck tightened.

Her eyes flew open at his attack but she was too shocked to react for the first few minutes.

"What are you...s..stop!!..." Instinctively, Madeline’s finger reached for his hand as she tried to unwrap his tight grip from her neck, but he was too strong for her and his hold around her neck was incredibly firm.

He was making it difficult for her to breathe and from how he grabbed her neck, Madeline had her doubts that he’d release her anytime soon.

"Who will save your stubborn self from me this time? Your lovely husband is helpless now due to his health situation. I’ll teach you a lesson for messing with me in the first place" He leaned close, his eyes displaying his silent fury. "You decide how you wish to free yourself from this, so what’s it gonna be?"

His obscene eyes raked over her body before returning to meet her struggling gaze. Madeline felt disgusted by his nasty looks, and from the way he looked at her, it made sense what he really wanted from her.

"I would rather fulfill the needs of a total stranger... than.....than go on my knees for you. You bastard!" And she kneed him in the groin when he wasn’t expecting it, forcing the young Lord to automatically release his grip from her neck.

Madeline stole a quick breath when he freed her neck, and she staggered forward a little when he freed her from his clutches, her eyes snapped at him. "How... how dare you touch me?!!"

Not willing to let him get away with his crude actions, Madeline quickly looked around and picked up something that looked like a stick resting on the table beside where she stood.

Turning her attention to the man who was still struggling from the kick she gave him, Madeline raised up the stick and bashed it on his body. "Lay your filthy hands on me again and I’ll design your body with the marks of my cane."

"Ouch! Hey! Stop! How did you! Ah!!" Madeline continued to hit him with the stick, ignoring his threats until someone’s presence in the room made her pause in her actions.

Lifting her head up to see who it was, Oliver stood at the entrance as his eyes shifted from the beaten Jeremy to the woman who was beating him up.

His expression remained bland to what he had witnessed, and he adjusted his glasses before letting his gorgeous blue eyes fall on Madeline again.

Madeline had feared the young boy would create a ruckus after seeing her hit his older brother, but to her surprise, the youngest Lord of the mansion swiftly turned around and left like nothing happened.

"Oliver!" Jeremy called his name, stunned by his younger brother’s ignorance, but Oliver continued to walk down the vast corridor while reading the book in his hand.

Even Madeline was a bit taken aback by it, but since his own brother doesn’t even care about what’s happening to him, Madeline raised the stick and continued to hit Jeremy.

"Wait till I get my hands on... ahh!! Stop it you mad woman!"

"When I’m done with you, you won’t think about touching me even in your next life, Hmph!!" After hitting him one more time, Madeline threw the stick away and quickly exited the room before he came after her.

At this point, Jeremy came to the conclusion that everyone surrounding Cassian was probably mad. This was the first time a woman would retaliate with such violence towards him.

"This isn’t over." He promised through gritted teeth as he helped himself up to his feet.

Meanwhile in the downstairs hall, Cassian was seated in the spacious study room that belonged to his father, and an imposing quietness reigned as both of them remained silent in the room.

Cassian had nothing to say to his father and boringly waited for his father to begin the conversation.

Richard, for the first time felt awkward having to start a conversation with his son. He took a deep breath and raised his head up to look at the young man whose eyes were neatly blindfolded.

"How are you feeling?"

"Tired." Cassian responded before relaxing his back against the chair. "And I’ll leave in the next two minutes if you don’t get to the reason why you sent for me."

"I sent for you yesterday."

"You should be happy I bothered showing up today. Anyway, forget that, what do you want?" Cassian spoke formally like he was talking to a businessman and not his father.

Richard was very much aware of his son’s hatred towards him. The only issue about it was that he didn’t care as long as Cassian didn’t make any further move to bring his name to ruins.

"That girl you married...." Richard began as he relaxed against his seat, "what’s her name again, Madeline."

"What about her??"

"Why did you marry her?" Richard’s eyes narrowed at his son whose expression turned startling at his father’s question. He looked doubtful about something and from his dubious tone, Cassian could tell there was a motive behind his father asking him such.

It wasn’t possible that he cared.

"I married her for the same reason you married Juliana." He smiled. "Why do you ask?"

"Her parents." Richard rested his hand on the table, interlocking them together as he leaned forward. "Did you do some research regarding her family?"

"No, but I’m sure you already did since you brought up the topic. Get to the point."

"Her parents, the Baron, died from an accident. I’d give you the papers to read but I don’t think you can due to your current predicament." He asserted before leaning back and placing a finger to the side of his lips. "There was information stating that her parents may have been targeted, which leads to her uncle’s death too."

"And?"

"What if she’s targeted? You’re endangering the lives of the rest of the family."

Cassian frowned. "What are you implying?"

"Divorce her."
