Chapter 60: Finding Cassian (5)

Using the carriage, Amade safely brought them to the destination where Geoffrey had directed him towards.

Stopping the carriage, Madeline was the first to step down from the carriage, only to see the area where Geoffrey had brought them was being covered with bushes and trees growing on each side of the earthly part. She turned to look at Geoffrey with stern eyes when he came down from the carriage as well.

"You said you knew where he was, but all I see is a dead end here! What are we supposed to do from here??" Madeline half-scolded Geoffrey, who wanted to speak but wasn’t given the chance to talk.

Madeline placed her palm to her forehead while closing her eyes and she looked away from Geoffrey. She stopped talking when she realized she might trigger herself if she gets too overwhelmed with their current situation, and now wasn’t the time to put blame on anyone.

Geoffrey was far older than her and she let her emotions get in the way by acting unnecessarily rude. But how is she to blame when she can’t find her husband??

"Are you trying to trick us or something?" Orson, who had gotten down after Inna, suddenly advanced forward to grab Geoffrey by the collar of his shirt. Geoffrey’s eyes widened alarmingly at the threatening action Orson displayed, and he quickly pointed towards the wood before he got choked to death.

"It’s not a trick, I saw them go in there." He opened his mouth to speak. "They took him in there, and I couldn’t follow them out of fear that I’ll be noticed, you have to believe me."

"That was the first mistake I made." Before Orson could react, Madeline quickly stepped in by separating the two of them, to Amade and Inna’s relief.

"Let him be." Madeline stood in their middle to keep them apart. "We shouldn’t trigger ourselves further than we already have, let’s just leave this place and...."

The rest of Madeline’s words shockingly drifted off when a familiar figure made her way through the bush part, and her eyes instantly widened when she saw it was Lily’s ghost. The little girl was walking through the bushes, and only came to a stop after locking gaze with Madeline.

"Lily??" She gasped.

"Huh??" Looking in her direction to see what had made her so speechless, everyone’s eyes squinted to see what she was staring at with so much shock in her dark orbs, but there was nothing standing there to their knowledge.

"Everything alright?" Inna questioned when Madeline hadn’t broken from her shocking trance.

"It’s Lily." After uttering the girl’s name out loud, it suddenly hit Madeline that the rest of them might not be familiar with Lily since she’s a ghost, and Madeline wasn’t ready to explain to them either since finding someone was more important than having to start a speech.

If Lily came from there, then it must mean Cassian was there as well. Could he have sent her here??

For once, Madeline chose to fight her fear and took cautious steps towards the little girl in a white dress. Her emotionless hazel eyes were focused on Madeline whom she could easily sense her fear, as well as the determination in her heart, and that was the only thing that made her recognizable to Lily.

Standing before the little girl, Madeline crouched to her level and asked. "Do you know where Cassian is?"

Lily said nothing and it wasn’t a surprise to Madeline. Her eyes didn’t give any emotions either as she turned around and headed back into the bush part she had earlier stepped out from.

"Come with me." Madeline quickly announced to the rest of them who immediately followed her behind. Amade had to stay back in order to keep watch on the carriage, he wasn’t ready to lose another favorite carriage too.

Going into the bushes, Madeline continued to follow Lily’s figure, and the young girl’s natural pace was surprisingly fast. It was almost difficult to keep up.

After walking for about thirty minutes, the sign of a medium-sized warehouse came into view, and Madeline’s mouth nearly dropped open that a warehouse like this could be found in the middle of a secluded forest.

The rest of them were just as surprised as she was.

Lily stepped inside the warehouse first, vanishing through the door, but Orson didn’t permit Madeline to go inside since it could be dangerous there. Who knows if they were still inside, or what if it’s a trap??

"I can see her, I need to follow her." Madeline explained to Orson with the hopes that he’ll understand why she needs to go inside. Inna nodded her head in agreement as she was also in approval of Madeline following whatever she saw.

Cassian and Madeline can see Ghosts?? As confused as Inna was by this, she didn’t ponder over it since her brother was her priority at the moment.

"Fine, but I’m coming with you."

Agreeing, Orson bursted the door open, but the whole place was empty. No sign of life could be detected in the room, and regardless of this, Orson brought his gun out just in case they had surprises coming their way.

Still being cautious, Orson continued to lead while Madeline tried to find the little girl who had called her earlier.

After scouting through the entire room in the warehouse, Madeline finally caught sight of Lily who was standing in a room with a wood panel floor.

"Lily, there you are." Madeline went to stay by the little girl’s side, she crouched down to her knees to look at the girl who no longer paid her any attention.

"Tell me, where is Cassian, you...you said he was here." Madeline wouldn’t be able to bear it any further if her hopes get shattered again, and she had bestowed her hope on the little ghost who led her here.

Lily said nothing and her eyes remained fixed to the ground. Madeline didn’t understand why she no longer moved around. The room they were in was completely empty, and Madeline couldn’t see anyone here, so why is she standing here??

"Lily."

But the little girl still remained rooted to her spot. Orson stepped into the room a few minutes later to find Madeline speaking to who knows what, and he went to stand beside her.

"I checked everywhere, there’s no one here." He told her, and Madeline didn’t want to believe Lily would just bring them here for no reason.

"But she brought us here, maybe we’re missing something."

"Or maybe they left." Orson concluded, "maybe they were here, but now they aren’t." That was the only possible reason Orson could come up with cause there is literally no one here. The chains and bloodstain in the other room was enough clue that someone had been here, and he prayed for those bloodstains to the blood of someone else.

"Lily, where is Cassian?" Madeline asked her one more time in hopes that she would say something, but she still remained quiet like a statue that was being displayed.

At this point, Madeline could no longer contain her tears.

"We’ll find him, maybe they haven’t gotten too far." Orson tried to reassure her.

Meanwhile Cassian, who was hearing voices, could barely keep his eyes open, and his breathing labored. He could sense someone’s familiar presence in the room, and he sensed Lily’s presence as well.

Did she find Madeline?

"Lily." He whispered her name before his head turned to the side, and he no longer moved.

Lily’s eyes finally lifted up, and her eyes were now fixed on a specific wood that wasn’t too far ahead. To Madeline’s surprise, the little girl who had refused to move, unforeseeably hurried to a certain wood that was fixed on the ground and she went on her knees, placing her ear to the ground to detect if that was the voice of her owner.

Madeline was taken aback by her movements, but she followed because deep down, she knew Lily was trying to tell her something.

Going on her knees, Madeline placed her ear to the ground like Lily did, and she also tried to confirm what Lily was looking for.

A sudden gasp tore from Madeline’s lips and she looked up to meet Orson’s nonplussed gaze.

"Orson, he’s here!" She exclaimed.

"Where??"

"Under the wood!" Madeline tried to find an opening, but the wood had been nailed to the ground like every other wood. "He’s here, we need to get him out!"
