Chapter 493: Chapter 493: Business Trip Abroad

Ji Yang arrived at the provincial government’s office to find that several people had already gathered. Glancing around, he recognized a few familiar faces, most of whom he had trained with.

Ai Jiachai was also among the crowd. Spotting Ji Yang, he walked over and shook his hand, saying, "Little brother, this time we are all in it together."

"Are we really going?" Ji Yang asked.

With a bitter smile, Ai Jiachai said, "You might not realize the importance of this project. We’re heading there to finalize the project details, although there’s not much for us to do."

Ji Yang said, "I don’t even know which project it is."

"You don’t know? It’s the biggest talk of the town."

Ji Yang explained, "I’m the last on the Investment Promotion Bureau’s list, and I haven’t sought out any information, so naturally, I’m in the dark."

Ai Jiachai gave Ji Yang a look, making sure he wasn’t lying, and felt somewhat puzzled. He had heard some rumors—Ji Yang wasn’t as simple as he appeared. He had his own connections, and that was the reason Ai Jiachai tried to maintain a good relationship with him.

"Little brother, it’s mainly a construction issue with the Deepwater Port. We had already signed the contract a while ago, but due to various problems, the other party has been obstructing the construction."

Ji Yang, puzzled, asked, "Is it that important?"

"Extremely important. If that port is constructed, it will connect our South Dian Province, then lead to the ports in Tiangui Province. Moreover, through Myanmar, we can bypass our dependence on the Ma Liu Strait and go straight into the White Elephant Ocean."

It was then Ji Yang grasped the gravity of the project and thought to himself that it indeed was a very significant undertaking.

Ai Jiachai continued, "The other country is under many influences right now and doesn’t want to fulfill the contract, constantly dragging its feet. That’s also why the province is so anxious. Of course, we are just accompanying the delegation; if there is something to do, we will do it. If not, we remain free."

"That does sound rather relaxed."

"The safety issue is a big concern, little brother. Be cautious after we depart. We have some investments over there, such as power stations, and we might have to visit them. If that’s the case, it becomes dangerous."

Ji Yang nodded slightly, acknowledging, "Indeed, safety must be a priority."

While they were talking, a deputy governor arrived.

Sitting there and listening for a while, Ji Yang understood that the main content of the trip was about the many projects in Myanmar, mostly aid construction. Nevertheless, since it involved investment, people from various departments were dispatched to follow up on the projects.

Ji Yang was also assigned a task—to lead a team to inspect the construction of a hydroelectric power station.

Ji Yang hadn’t expected to become a team leader, responsible for overseeing such a task.

"Brother, those projects have specific units for construction and management. What’s the use of our going there?" Ji Yang was not well-informed about such matters and turned to Ai Jiachai with his question.

"You need to know that those investments are made by the state and the province. Where there is financial flow, there will undoubtedly be issues, and our main purpose this time is to inspect."

"Still, shouldn’t the audit department or the discipline inspection commission handle this?"

"Little brother, if it were anywhere else, everyone would be fighting to go. Myanmar is too chaotic; no one wants to go there. That’s why the province has done a special study and dispatched us all."

It dawned on Ji Yang that his role as a team leader was assigned because no one else was willing to step forward.

"They could have assigned someone from those units."

"Their ranks aren’t high enough. It’s necessary to show a certain level of authority."

Well then!

Ji Yang came to understand that his role as a team leader was nominal. In reality, he didn’t have to worry about the specifics, as young comrades would handle the actual work.

Sure enough, soon everyone saw that the majority of comrades dispatched were young people, many of whom looked like they had just graduated from university and joined the workforce, full of enthusiasm.

Ji Yang stopped talking, and when he gathered the members assigned to his team, he saw three young men and one young woman, all exuding an air of youthfulness.

Later, Ji Yang also heard that after arriving in the other country, they would be joined by a squad of soldiers to work together, tasked with providing defense.

When he brought the four youngsters together, Ji Yang asked their names. The young woman was named Xu Shiman, an energetic girl who was responsible for translation duties. She mentioned that she had always been studying the Burmese language.

The other three young men had just passed the civil service examination and specialized in finance, economics, and similar fields.

One of them, named He Hongfei, was from the Provincial Audit Office, while the other two were from the taxation and discipline inspection departments.

Well then!

After hearing their background, Ji Yang realized that there wouldn’t be much for him to do.

He Hongfei was the deputy team leader, in charge of specific tasks.

Ji Yang guessed that if it weren’t for rank considerations, He Hongfei would have been the team leader directly.

Ji Yang harbored various suspicions about this man’s background but refrained from asking.
