Talent System: I Instantly Master My Opponents Skills -
Chapter 97: Not Taken Seriously
Chapter 97: Not Taken Seriously
Jason awaited for Alexia to make the first move, his mind already thinking of how to end their fight quickly.
He held no weapon, instead the tip of his katana was on the floor and he balanced himself using the hilt of his katana. This was a leisurely stance, and in this stance, he made sure it was clear that he didn’t take Alexia as a foe.
She was an annoyance. To put it simply, an irritating pest.
"Are you ready?" She questioned in a condescending tone.
Jason did not respond. He simply nodded, his eyes narrowing as he observed her stance.
’If I have to guess, I would say that it is the Raijin clan’s stance.’ Jason mused, watching her.
She was practically open from almost all sides, there was not a single effort to defend herself from him. But while the stance left the user open from most sides, it gave them an easier time to counter with a terrifying powerful blow.
The opponent could land a blow, but all the mana that she packed into her fist during the time she waited could be the deciding blow of the match.
’Unlucky for her, I have these eyes.’ Jason mused, a grin playing at his lips.
The passive state of the Null eyes gave him good enough eyesight to notice things from afar what an ordinary person would have to squint from up close to notice.
’But its not like her attack would do anything against me.’
"What’s your problem? Your not so confident now, now that you’ve lost that treasure." Alexia taunted, daring him to attack.
’A taunt as plain-sighted as that only works on knuckle-heads.’
"I’ve already told you before, I wasn’t using any treasures, we can even make a pact that I won’t lie about it."
The girl ignored him, sparks of lightning surrounding her.
But Jason wasn’t worried. He wasn’t even slightly scared.
It wasn’t like those sparks of lightning would work against him anyway.
Seeing that her taunt didn’t work, Alexia moved first. She moved with a sudden explosive burst of speed, her steps quick as he surged towards Jason.
’She’s not that fast.’ Jason thought, still leaning on his weapon.
In no time, she had reached striking distance.
As she went for the attack, Jason dodged. He had seen it, he could tell that she was was aiming for his gut, he grabbed his katana firmly, side-stepping as Alexia darted towards him, aiming to plunge the dagger deep into his abdomen.
But she missed.
"You should try to be a little faster next time." Jason advised.
He had decided to fight on the same level as her, hence he did not go for the kill and end it almost immediately.
Even though he had just given her advice, Alexia had mistaken it as a taunt.
She slowed down gradually, having built up a lot of speed.
Then, she charged at him again.
Jason blocked her strike with his katana, the weapons clashing against each other as they faced each other off. He didn’t try to go through her defense, instead he retained his own, making sure her weapon didn’t force his back.
[5%]
Alexia backed away after five seconds, finally noticing that she could not overpower his defenses.
’I didn’t expect her to be this persistent.’ Jason thought, wielding his weapon with both hands.
It took a second for the progress to go up by a single percent, she had spent more than five seconds trying to overpower him, not even trying to gauge his strength. The reason it was only at five was because Jason only decided to begin copying after two seconds had passed.
"I suppose that the system considers weapons as extensions of the body." Jason muttered to himself.
As long as he wanted to copy the talent, all he had to do was make contact, if he did not want to copy the talent, the notification wouldn’t pop up to inform him.
Meaning that he wasn’t copying the talent.
Alexia didn’t move for some seconds, it got to the point where Jason considered taunting her. But just as he was about to, she moved.
She tossed her dagger to her left hand. Her fist connected with the ground, it sent a shockwave throughout the room. The ground cracked beneath her, the crack extending all the way towards him.
"Strange, I expected the ground to be much sturdier. This is the place where the joint-clan tournament is taking place after all, I thought that this building would be much stronger, to at least prevent any rogue hunter organizations from attacking." Jason murmured, completely ignoring the crack on the earth that stopped just a few feet away from him.
The ground shook, prompting the few spectators still around to sit down.
But Jason remained standing.
Large vines sprouted from the ground, five of them in total. The vines wasted no time in moving towards him.
But no sooner had they sprouted that they began to deteriorate, before they could even touch him they turned from green to brown, their forms that were full of life before now dried up and twisted.
’She used earth magic.’ Jason realized, seeing how the plants deteriorated quickly.
Magic was magic, it was composed of mana, and with him, magic would reduce in quality until it was weakened, or worse, snuffed out.
Jason swiftly cut the dried out vines, they were hindering his view on Alexia.
’She’s gone.’ Jason realized after he was done.
Just then, a concentrated wave of continuous electricity was sent towards him.
The caster was Alexia, she had utilized his hindered vision to strike.
Jason quickly glanced around searching for her.
He grimaced when he saw the scene.
Her electricity wasn’t even reaching him, stopping short before it was even able to touch him.
"Now it just looks like I’m bullying her." Jason murmured as he walked towards Alexia.
Her expression displayed her shock, her shock at how her lightning magic stopped short of making contact with him. First it was earth magic, now it was lightning magic, there were not enough words she could use to express her shock.
"I advise that you give up now." Jason said to her as he advanced towards his opponent.
The girl did not speak, rather she stopped the charge of electricity. Then, her body gathered the electricity as she darted towards him.
She threw attacks at him, to which he dodged easily. It was almost like they were re-enacting the scene between Kairo and Morrigan, the way one threw attacks that wouldn’t reach.
Kairo, when seeing the display, turned away.
Jason knew that Alexia was strong in her own rights, he could tell that she was rank 4 – along with almost all the heirs – and a good fighter, but she wasn’t at his level, so he couldn’t really take their fight seriously.
He shifted on his feet, moving around her as he evaded her attacks.
His movements were almost lazy, and it was obvious that he would have put less effort in dodging had the katana not been holding him down. And he rarely countered with his katana, but each time they did Alexia always tried to force him back.
[57%]
’Not yet.’ Jason thought as he blocked yet another strike from her.
[58%]
She quickly withdrew, moving backwards to regain her breath.
While fighting Jason she was forced with limited use of mana, she could only work with magic inside her body since nature energy did not extend that far, but she could not use any type of magic on the outside.
She panted heavily, being the one who was on the attack, but none of her efforts seemed fruitless.
"Are you done?" Jason asked.
"No."
But the girl did not charge towards him, instead she settled at her position, regaining her breath.
’I’m not about to leave it after getting the progress so high.’
It was just two seconds left, that was all it would take for it to finish.
Just then, Alexia darted towards him in a burst of speed, aiming to take him he was distracted with his own thoughts.
[Flash Steps]
She moved towards him, her figure becoming dangerously fast even though the distance between them was small.
Her dagger was poised, she was ready to finish him off before he could react. After seeing his speed she could determine that his reaction time was fast, that was why she would need to move fast while catching him off-guard. This time, she was aiming for the heart.
But then, her attack was blocked, as easily as all the others had been. Her acquired speed didn’t even push him back.
[60%... Ding!...]
[Host can choose a talent to copy: Flash steps]
Jason paid no heed to the system’s familiar insult, instead focusing on the second part. From the option of all the talents to copy, he chose the only option.
[200P]
He flung Alexia backwards, overpowering her for the first time in their fight.
Alexia was shocked as she landed on her feet, but before she could dwell on the reason why he suddenly took the initiative he vanished from his position.
Jason reappeared next to her, but he wasn’t standing. Instead he had taken a punching motion, the same punching motion he used when he was taking out his former opponents.
His fist connected with her abdomen before she could even react, propelling her through the air. There was a burning pain that lingered after Jason had landed his punch on her, from there she tumbled before finally falling onto the ground, tumbling.
Her world spun around her but she was still conscious. Barely.
’I’ve acquired flash steps now.’ Jason thought, wondering how much faster he would be when he used it.
He saw Alexia, her body twitching as she laid on the ground. She was still unconscious, but barely.
Jason walked towards her. He was going to take his space ring back.
