Chapter 79: Opportuny Comes (1)

Jason stared at the door.

It had been four days since Emily died and during that time he spent nothing more than train, eat and sleep. He had been practicing Offhand, since he realized that the mastery of such a skill would come handy in the future. Or at least, the future he wanted.

The space ring had been mailed back to him, it was sort of a participating gift for surviving in the dungeon.

But today, he had just experienced a phenomenon

’Am I losing myself?’ He asked himself, unsure of what he had just heard, thinking his ears were deceiving him. ’Did I just hear a knock on the door?’

He considered the possibility of someone looking for him, the chances were low. He even considered that since they hadn’t even bothered to deliver it to him, instead just mailing it. The chances that someone would be looking for him was 1%.

But then he heard it again – knocking on the door.

’I can’t be hallucinating, right?’

The knocks became more fervent and louder, disturbing Jason’s meditation.

’Could it be that old teacher of mine forgot something?’ He wondered, his thoughts going to the color-blind old man. ’Did he forget something here?’

Jason doubted it, the man always carried a briefcase with him filled with the curriculum.

Because of the color-blind old man, Jason had to arrange his home to look presentable the day he got home.

"Open up, you damn runt!" After ten continuous minutes of knocking the voice at the other side of the door, resorted to cursing.

"If you don’t open it in the next five seconds, I’ll kill you!!" He yelled.

’An elder, what would an elder want with me?’ Jason mused, breaking away from his image training as a monster devoured his upper body. With the old man around it wasn’t so hard to concentrate, it only got harder when he had to resort to yelling.

’But if this is an elder, why wouldn’t he just bust down the door?’ Jason was just about to unlock the door when the realization settled in.

’An elder wouldn’t be this rational, at least not for something this small, they should have already bust down the door in rage.’ He stopped, a thought coming over.

"What the hell." He shrugged to himself. "If worst comes I’ll just kill the person at the other side of the door."

He unlocked the door.

’Oh, so it was an elder.’ He thought as he stared at the person that had come. ’Even then, I’m more surprised that I have a visitor rather than the visitor being a woman.’

’But I’m still thankful that this elder has hair.’ He observed her forehead and was thankful that she at least had hair.

’Though, I’ve never seen a female elder before.’

His mind went back to the encounter he had when the wife of the clan head had dragged him all the way to the room where he met the elders.

He had encountered no female elders back then.

The old woman went inside the house, her eyes examining every corner of the living room.

"There was blood here, on this wall." She murmured, the clan’s signature exceptional eyesight picking up on the very faint stains on the wall.

Jason hesitated, not sure of whether she was talking to him or herself. But the fact that she had managed to see it did intrigue him, he was sure that he had washed it clean without leaving a speck.

But even then this person had managed to see it.

The elder smirked. "Stupid bastard." She cursed suddenly.

Jason was unsure of whether to take offense or not, he wasn’t sure if she was talking to him or just muttering to herself.

’But it did feel personal.’ He thought.

Most comments about him were just people mocking him, he had grown used to it ever since the time the maids came over, because even then, the comments they had about him were hurtful.

The old woman turned back to him, and for the first time since she entered, observed him.

"So the rumors are false." She muttered to herself. "There really isn’t any mana in your body."

’There were rumors?’ Jason was confused, though he did well to hide his confusion.

"Was it you spreading those rumors, so that you would seem special?" She inquired.

He hesitated, he wasn’t sure if this woman was talking to herself or actually referring to him.

From the way it seemed, she had been talking to herself a lot.

"What rumors?" He finally asked.

She looked at him as if she was looking at a fool.

"There are many rumors surrounding you; one claims that you can use mana, but whenever you use mana you are in a state of no self-awareness, another states that you are actually hiding you potential for magic, it claims that your magic is so powerful, you can even revive yourself after death, and even regrow a heart out of thin air." The elder explained.

Jason couldn’t hide his disbelief.

The rumors were so far-fetched he couldn’t believe them.

But then again.

’Grow a heart out of thin air, revive myself after death?’ Those were the only parts that he was actually sure had some truth behind them.

’I’m not sure if I was dead before, or really grew a heart out of thin air. I’m sure if had something to do with the Essence Of A Being.’

"I didn’t even know that rumors were circulating about me." He said honestly.

She eyed him, almost as if she was looking at something disgusting. The elder obviously didn’t believe his words to be truthful.

But this was one of the few honest things he had actually told someone.

She watched his for a few seconds before shifting onto another topic.

"Jason Hachiman." The elder began, obviously bracing for something important

’If these people want to say my name, why do they have to use the full-name?’ He wondered, oblivious to the weight of the words that the elder was about to give.

"When the first light of dawn breaks upon the horizon, you will follow the elder who comes for you."

Jason understood what she said, but didn’t at the same time.

Her words were too vague, he could only make out what she wanted him to do, not what was going to happen.

"You should be respectful to the individuals you meet, and you are expected not to spread any rumors of the clan. Also, be respectful to the heirs you will meet tomorrow because of your..." The elder paused, unsure of how to phrase the words.

"Because of your lack of aptitude in mana." She finished, already getting up.

With those words, she walked out of the door, leaving Jason confused with her vague words.
