Chapter 78: The A-Dungeon

The sun hung high in the sky, casting its warm rays of light down on the world below. The night had gone and passed, giving way to a new day, but the attitudes of people remained unchanged.

Jason sat on the lawn, a few feet from where he had buried the little girl. He stared blankly at the ground, contemplating on many things.

He thought about his next course of action, he was stuck on a road, the paths he could take weren’t visible to him.

The first thought he had was to find out who killed Emily, or better yet find out who was the person behind her death. The mastermind that had wanted to capture her, but had to resort to killing her instead.

’Chances are, that person that’s behind her death is strong.’ Jason shook his head, dispelling the thought. ’I’d just be courting death. I need to be stronger to even think about it.’

He needed a quicker way to get stronger, but that would require resources. Resources that he didn’t exist.

Due to his peculiar status, the only resource he needed to grow stronger was nature energy.

To get much better results, he would need a rain forest if he wanted to accelerate the rate of his growth.

’But to think that I trusted the clan guardian...’ He couldn’t help but chastise himself for it.

Part of the reason he had left Emily without thinking much was because he had faith in her, she had protected Emily once so he thought she would do it again. He had forgotten that she was a whimsical being.

Everything she did was according to her own accord, that meant that when she saved Emily then it was all on a whim. It was just because she felt like it.

When Emily was attacked at night, the clan guardian watched it all.

’What to do?’ Jason mused. ’I have 2-3 years until the plot of the novel starts, what should I do until then?’

The original plan was to train Emily, if she awakened he would continue training her until the plot started. By then she would have been strong enough to enter dungeons, and he could leave her alone without having to worry about her.

But his plan took a complete 180o dive when he found her dead almost an hour ago. Now, he wondered what he would do, he couldn’t even grieve for her.

The only thing he could do was figure out his next course of action.

’What is my immediate need, my priority?’ He questioned himself, his mind already searching for the answer.

And the answer came almost immediately.

"Strength!" He voiced out loud.

But he didn’t feel a rush of emotions, the declaration devoid of emotional weight, he just answered the question honestly. It was a truth one needed to come to accept.

Strength was important in this world, without strength one couldn’t become anything that mattered. In Jason’s last world smarts were important, but this world was like an inverse; similar in many ways but different in the essence.

What humans required was strength; to challenge the dungeons, to go to the front-line in war, humans required strength. Meanwhile being intelligent wouldn’t help him in the least, it was true that the clan had found use for him as a tactician because he was proven to be a genius due to his outstanding learning speed.

But beyond that what lay ahead if he was only intelligent?

Nothing.

’I suppose its time for me to head out of the clan.’ Jason thought.

’But how to do that? Its not like an opportunity is suddenly going to appear.’

He had a place in mind, somewhere he would like to travel to:

’The A-dungeon.’ He smiled at the thought.

He needed to get more talents, but not just any ordinary talents, rare, special talents and in order to get more talents he needed a good source.

The A-dungeon had the sources he was looking for.

’If I’m really going to the most difficult dungeon, the Adaptive dungeon, aren’t I a little too relaxed?’ He questioned himself. ’But its probably for the best, I’ll need to stay in the same level of strength.’

The Adaptive dungeon, also known as the A-dungeon, was a special dungeon that had originated since the day that mana emerged in the world.

This was the place where the heroes of humanity died.

Even the first awakener had died there.

’If I go there with rank 0 strength, the monsters there will have the exact same strength as I will.’ He mused.

When someone of rank 2 strength went into the dungeon, the monsters they fought in the adaptive dungeon will have the exact same strength as his.

The protagonist had ventured into the dungeon by himself on a suicide mission, he was disillusioned with life and wanted to end it all, but even then he fought with his life, he had managed to reach the boss of the dungeon.

Then was thoroughly beaten down.

’But the question remains, how will I get permission to leave the clan, much less head into the A-dungeon?’

With his strength revealed it would only be a matter of time before the clan sent guards to his abode, then they would stock him up with maids that would observe all his actions daily.

’If I want to leave the clan, I would need to meet someone that hates me with their guts.’

Jason couldn’t find anyone that hated him that badly, most of the clan members hated him because he was dark-skinned. Normally, they would fit the requirement, but those people didn’t have much power in the clan.

He didn’t even have any way to contact the elders of the clan.

’Is there really nothing I can do?’ Jason sighed.

’Perhaps I should just wait.’ He laid down on the grass. ’Opportunities might present themselves soon.’

He laid there, staring in the cloudy sky while in deep thought.

"Wait!" He said aloud, jerking his head upwards.

"If I’m really going to the Adaptive dungeon with my strength, doesn’t it just mean that I’m having suicidal thoughts!" He said aloud.

Someone would only have suicidal thoughts when they lost everything, he had lost something, but was unable to feel the pain of her departure to the other world.

He put his hand on his chin.

"Maybe its just a normal human reaction... Trying to grieve, but not being able to." He muttered.
