Chapter 73: Evaluation Hall (2)

Jason watched as the elder vanished in a dazzling light, as the light died down several people jumped down from the roof of the building.

He judged the reactions of the people surrounding him, they were shocked as they saw individuals seemingly appearing out of nowhere.

’There must really be something called stealth magic.’ Jason mused. ’Either that or everybody I’ve met has very poor eyesight.’

The people, dressed in full-on black, showed everyone into the house before taking each one to separate rooms. The instructions they gave before leaving was that no one should come out of the room they were assigned to until the next day, or else said person would be disqualified.

Jason now found himself in a small room fully painted red, without any furniture and without a bed.

From its looks it was safe to assume that it was created for the very reason of holding them for the night.

’I actually thought that for the first time in this life I would get the chance to sleep on a bed.’ He shook his head, it seemed like that time would come later.

He leaned on the red wall, crossing his arms as he continued to mull over the events that had transpired recently.

He found it hard to do so, the room felt stifling, but not because of its color, rather because of the time of day. His torn shirt was soaked.

’Sadly, there isn’t any invention that does the work of a fan.’ He could only bear it as he sat by the wall.

His mind wandered.

Particularly to the plot of the world he was in.

’The main story starts in two-three years.’ He mused. ’Since I have some free time should I just go around the usual way stealing treasures and boosts that were supposed to belong to the protagonist.’

The cliché route, one that involved taking everything that were supposed to give the protagonist a boost so that he could increase his own strength.

Personally, Jason would have preferred to take it. The only problem was most of them required the user to have magic.

’Magic to breathe, magic to eat, magic to kill. If the world was like that I wouldn’t be alive right now.’ A random thought.

’But then again, who would allow me leave the clan residence?’

’To be able to leave I would need to become a hunter.’

A hunter was the term given to those who entered dungeons for the purpose of hunting the monsters found in the dungeon, it was a dumb term that was only introduced when the MC became one.

But that term was quickly forgotten as it moved on towards fighting a group of the monster lord’s followers.

’But who would allow me, I mean, look at me.’

’If I went to register the receptionist would regard me as insane.’

Jason hit his head against the wall, causing it to crack.

He briefly regarded it before turning away.

’I should probably just sleep.’

He laid down on the floor staring at the red ceiling, his consciousness drifted as he fell asleep.

...

Jason groggily woke up, he was still tired.

He attributed it all on sleeping for an hour or so.

As he got up he heard a knock on the door.

"You are to come out in the next five minutes or you will be disqualified from the trial." A harsh female voice came from the other side of the door.

Jason groaned.

He walked to the door and opened it.

The individual in black briefly regarded him. "Go outside, from there you’ll be taken to the evaluation hall."

Jason nodded, rubbing the sleep from his eyes.

’So I slept from mid-afternoon to morning.’ He noted. ’Either that or they decided to reschedule the time we would be evaluated.’

He felt a bit tired even after sleeping for so long, but even so he wanted to get on with this quickly.

Jason walked briskly down the hall, passing by several other individuals. They were tired, their eyes looking as if they had seen hell.

"Didn’t get much sleep." He muttered. "Used to the good life with beds and pillows."

Shadows danced along the walls as they navigated the passageways.

Finally he made it outside.

He quickly saw the elder, the very same one that had guided them to this place, though it was a bit hard to discern if it was him due to his bald head; a trait all the elders had, and his aged face.

He walked over to the old man, standing side-by-side with him.

That was when he felt it, the sensation he had gotten a bit too familiar with due to his numerous times he had teleport in the dungeon.

His eyes adjusted to the view it found himself in, the familiar clan compound, the set of buildings and the guards hiding embarrassingly coming to view.

"Go into that building." The elder said.

Jason followed the bald man’s gaze.

The building talked about was in view, right in front of him.

He moved towards it with a sense of purpose.

"I wonder how Emily’s doing." He muttered, looking back.

For some reason the old man winced at his words, after that a slight smile formed on his face.

’He winced when I said that, did something happen?’ Jason mused.

He didn’t think about it much and instead went through the door of the building, inside he saw a crowd of teenagers, the people that had gone through the rank 4 dungeon portal some days ago.

Jason walked over to them before joining the group.

Thirty had entered the dungeon, yet only twelve returned.

Eighteen people had unfulfilled dreams that died with them in a mere rank 4 dungeon.

Jason patiently leaned on the wall as he waited for the evaluation to start, the sooner it started the sooner it would finish, and the sooner it finished the sooner he would have the chance to go home.

A boy walked through the door.

The very same boy that had been shouted at the day before.

The atmosphere changed from harmony to anger.

’It seems like he has made quite a few enemies.’

As he joined the group that stared daggers through him, an elder appeared in a dazzling light.

It wasn’t the same old man that had guided them to the building in the middle of nowhere.

"Now, the evaluation shall begin!" He declared with fake enthusiasm, his voice booming.
