Chapter 70: The One Who Was Left Behind (5)

Jason found it hard to believe what he heard.

’How could I be killed by the Giant Arachnid Spider?’ He thought.

What Zane just told him soundly like a story that would be told by a very bad storyteller.

But even then he couldn’t help but think back to the most recent system notification. ’Essence of a being’s duration effect.’

His thought process went back to that moment, after that notification he regained his sense of reasoning, it was also at that moment that he stopped.

Jason began walking back to the shore.

"Where do you think you’re going?’ Zane asked, his grip on his sword tightening as he prepared for a surprise attack.

"Where else? I’m going to sit down so I can stomach this." Jason replied without turning back.

He ignored that he was walking on water and should also be able to sit on it, instead he sat down on the shore and began to contemplate.

’What should I do?’ The information that he had just been hit with ruined his mood.

He had just found out that he had died, by a rank 4 sub-boss that he could easily kill, only to wake up and realize that he had killed the dungeon boss.

Jason sat there, his mind going through a series of thoughts.

’It was that water... The essence of a being that I drank.’

After drinking it he was informed that he had taken in the essence of a being, one that seemed to be the source of his carnage.

A boy walked towards him.

Jason looked up to meet his gaze, but the boy in turn shuddered.

’Do I look that evil.’ Jason wondered.

"I was told to inform you that we’re heading back, the dungeon will collapse soon and we don’t want to leave anyone behind."

The boy’s tone was respectful, as if he was afraid of incurring the wrath of a god, a whimsical god that could kill him just because he felt like it.

’What did I do to make him so scared?’ Once again, he thought back to Zane’s words on what he had done.

Jason got off the ground before dusting the sand off his butt.

’How long has it been since the boss died?’ Jason mused.

A dungeon collapsed at exactly an hour after the dungeon boss dies, killing all the people and monsters inside once it collapsed.

As he walked he couldn’t help but notice the corpses scattered around the beachside.

"What happened to these people?" Jason asked pointing towards the dead bodies.

"The dungeon boss killed them."

"What about that girl?"

A girl that had no blood staining her body, from a distance it looked like she was sound asleep. But Jason could see clearly, she had no heartbeat.

"The dungeon boss had just gotten the melee fighters. That girl took out a piece of paper from her ring and began to read it, it took a large amount of her mana and when it seemed like she was about to create something, she screamed, after that she fell onto the ground." The boy explained.

Jason listened keenly to his words.

’The only reason someone would take out a piece of paper in a fight is if it was a visualization technique.’ Jason thought.

Though he couldn’t believe it.

Visualization techniques were not only frowned upon, but at the off chance that they were altered their effects could range from basically nothing to the destruction of their mana reserves.

It seemed like she was careless, she didn’t have enough mana to even use it and as a result her body switched to blood.

But then again, as long as someone died without complaints who was he to judge.

As he walked he saw people with holes through their chests, their stomachs and even no heads.

They arrived where Zane and Hereon was, apparently Hereon couldn’t move on his own and was thus being carried by Zane.

In front of them was a swirling blue portal of different energies.

’Who had the crazy idea of challenging the dungeon boss?’ Jason wondered.

Most of them were dead while the ones that were alive weren’t in better shape, with the exception of the boy that had escorted him, the rest were either seriously wounded or dead.

"Let’s go." Zane said.

As soon as the words left his mouth he walked into the portal with Hereon hoisted on his shoulders.

Now both him and the Hachiman boy remained.

The boy went through it almost immediately, he really wanted to get away from Jason.

’So I guess that leaves only me.’ Jason thought.

He observed the portal, a swirling mass of blue energies pulsating and moving in perfect harmony.

He went through it as well.

Jason felt a slight headache, his eyes unable to handle the change.

For a moment he saw vivid colors and pulsating energy, but that changed too.

It gave way to an open field with no vegetation.

Jason stumbled slightly as he emerged from the swirling blue portal, the area he had just entered drenched in sunlight, not the unnatural kind found in the dungeon, but the one brought by the sun.

"Out of the dungeon." Jason muttered.

He looked around him, seeing the very three people that had just left.

’Where are the others?’ He thought.

Zane and Hereon had collapsed on the floor, their exhaustion evident after wrestling with the rank 4 dungeon boss. Even now Jason didn’t know how it looked like, he could only assume that it was a big spider, one bigger than even the Giant Arachnid Spider’s he had fought.

"What happened?" A sharp voice startled him, it belonged to the elder that had sent them off some days ago.

Jason looked around, no one wanted to answer, either too shocked or too tired to do so.

"On the verge of collapsing." Jason answered.

He clearly saw the elder’s eyes widen.

"What happened to the boss?"

"Dead."

The elder paused, unable to believe what he heard.

The goal of being sent into the dungeon was just survival, in the history of the trial the boss had never been killed.

The bald old man was in disbelief.
