Chapter 68: The One Who Was Left Behind (3)
... (Present)
The boss monster crashed onto the sand, its body still moving after crashing onto the ground. It couldn’t stop or stabilize itself, the force behind that single hit was immense.
Water shrouded its form, stopping the monster mid-air.
The octopus monster felt its tentacles, one of them was bruised badly from just a single strike from the three-sectioned-staff.
"Impossible." The boss monster muttered to itself, confusion evident in its tone. "That being is much stronger than me, this place should have collapsed as he entered."
Its sharp eyes turned to the figure who had just entered, his two arms gripped the staff like it was a lifeline.
Jason vanished from its field of vision, his form flickering in the unnatural light of the dungeon.
The boss’s eyes widened, its eyes darted around the space but it couldn’t pinpoint his location.
It was as if he just vanished.
*Boom
The sound rippled through the air, a violent shockwave rippling across the sand. The water surrounding the monster shuddered as his figure re-emerging in a blur in front of the monster.
With a single, fluid swing, the three-sectioned-staff swung through the air, hitting the monster’s abdomen squarely.
The monster’s face cntorted, its tentacles swirling rapidly, the force of the blow sent it flying backward.
But Jason didn’t give it enough time to recover, he blitzed through the air going after the monster.
"No." That was the only sound the boss could make before it was hit squarely on the head.
*Boom
The sound of impact resounded in the air like the crack of thunder as the body of the boss monster hit the ground, the water shrouding it rippled violently before finally dissipating.
Before the staff had hit its head it tried to use it tentacles to block the force, the boss regretted it now as the tentacles weren’t responding now, and also because it didn’t do anything to lessen the impact.
"How did a human of this strength enter my sanctuary?!"
As a monster and the boss of the rank 4 dungeon, the octopus monster was aware of the laws regarding dungeons.
Someone with this kind of strength should be at peak of rank 1 strength.
How did a human like that enter this place?
Its abdomen would have caved in if it had not been covered with water, and even then the amount of damage taken in that one attack was massive.
The boss monster staggered to its feet.
Each step was slow, not deliberate, but it was what the octopus monster could manage.
Its eyes locked onto Jason one last time.
He moved.
But now, the boss was able to keep up with his movements.
"He’s moving slower." The boss monster muttered to itself.
Its tentacles would have been swirling around in glee if not for the fact that they couldn’t move.
He brought his hand forward, sending a barrage of the very same fish monsters it used to kill the long-ranged awakeneds.
Five shot out of its palms, aiming for Jason.
While moving Jason swung the three-sectioned-staff, it seemed like it moved while he was running but the boss could see clearly. The first swing intersected with the first fish monster he had just shot, a section of the staff launching it off course.
He deftly deflected each of the fish sent at him with his right arm, while advancing quickly to the boss.
"NO!" The octopus monster shouted, Jason was right in front of him.
It swiped its arm in the arm, a torrent of water coming down.
But it wasn’t quick enough nor powerful enough to hurt Jason.
The water drenched his clothes yet didn’t slow him down. The three-sectioned-staff hit it squarely on its neck.
"Gah!" It let out a sound, blue blood coming out of its mouth.
The boss monster tried to counter, using the moment it tried to strike Jason with a punch to the face.
He didn’t dodge. The blow connected solidly.
The blow resounded in the air, Jason stopped moving.
But nothing happened, like the human in front of him had been pat lightly in the stomach, where the blow landed.
’What’s happening?!’ The octopus monster wondered, its eyes met the eyes of the human.
Black eyes. That was what it saw.
The dark-skinned human grinned devilishly.
His left arm left the staff he held, moving in a flash, it struck the monster’s head solidly.
Nothing happened.
’What’s happening?’ The octopus monster thought.
It blinked in confusion, its mind racing.
The blow the human landed on it should have done much more damage, it should have sent it reeling. But Jason still stood there, his grin—sinister, almost maddening in its calmness—only heightened the feeling of dread building in the pit of the boss’s stomach.
Then it happened.
An explosion in its internal system, its organs seemingly caught fire before bursting open.
The monster instinctively put its hands on its stomach, but that was a mistake.
The three-sectioned-staff came hammering down, sending the boss monster back into the ground.
’Two... two of my hearts are gone.’ The octopus monster thought.
Just a single punch. That was all it took to destroy two of its hearts.
"I need- I need to get this fight into the water."
Another swing. One that disrupted its thought process.
"Arggh!" The boss screamed.
It experienced a sudden burst of strength, strength that it didn’t have before.
The boss roared, gathering its strength and rising up, then it began running towards the water.
Surprisingly, Jason didn’t do anything.
The black eyes of the human stared at the weapon in his hands.
The boss monster finally reached the sea, but Jason couldn’t care less.
He dropped the three-sectioned-staff onto the ground.
The ring on his finger glowed in a blue light.
The Katana appeared in his grasp.
He vanished from his initial position.
’If I remove the properties I embedded in the water, this human won’t be able to walk on it.’ The boss thought as it released it, the water was now different.
Jason appeared briefly on the waters, his legs moving like propellers as he ran on water.
The boss monster’s eyes widened.
’So he wasn’t moving at his full speed since!’
Jason reappeared, but the boss monster had been expecting it.
The instant he appeared in front of him, a cyclone of water blocked his katana, preventing him from cleaving the monster into half.
The boss triumphed in its mind seeing this, water surrounded its foot and it was propelled into the sky.
’Even the waters aren’t safe with him.’ It thought, going farther into the sky.
Water surrounded its body, its vision distorting for a split-second as it tried to use the water to recover its strength.
When its view came back, it saw something. In that millisecond before it happened the monster felt its skin crawl.
Jason cut it into half, separating its body into two parts.
The monster couldn’t react, the being was just too fast.
Jason’s arms moved through the air, cleaving the monster into tinier bits again and again.
Blue blood splattered across the sky, from above it looked like a minuscule portion of it had been stained with a deep unnatural hue.
