Chapter 65: The Boss (2)
Chapter 65: The Boss (2)
There were two types of dungeons; Normal Dungeons and Triple Dungeons.
A normal dungeon was a dungeon that had only a single boss as the strongest of all the monsters, it was easier to defeat because there were no such things as sub-bosses.
A triple dungeon on the other hand was a dungeon that had multiple bosses, consisting of the sub-bosses and the true boss as the strongest of the monsters. It was advised that the sub-bosses should be defeated first before challenging the true boss, as skipping the other bosses would result in fighting all three at the same time.
Under Normal Dungeons and Triple Dungeons were Instant Dungeons.
Instant Dungeons had the same chance of appearing in any of the two and were more rare than triple dungeons.
Blood smeared the trident made entirely of water, Zane coughed up blood.
He knew he was in trouble, the trident, though made of water was incredibly sharp.
Hereon’s hand grabbed his arm, the boy trying to yank him away from the monster’s reach.
Before he could grab him the boss reacted, from its mouth that were enveloped with tentacles, a blast of water shot out.
It hit Hereon full-force on the chest, saliva leaving his mouth as the impact sent him flying backwards, but he didn’t let go of Zane, he dragged him with it.
Zane and Hereon tumbled backwards, their body rolling on the ground before finally coming to a halt.
Zane struggled to get up, now that he was released from the sharp end of the trident he was able to move.
The wound that the monster had created bled, the blood dripping down his clothes.
"This monster is strong." Zane voiced to Hereon.
He had stabbed the systemic heart of the monster hoping that it would stop the flow of oxygenated blood throughout its body, but he quickly found out that it had six.
And a spare for each one he stabbed through.
"My earlier strategy of charging in won’t work again since the boss monster has seen it before." Zane said as he got up.
Hereon didn’t say anything.
"Gather the others here, as soon as they arrive they should send projectiles at the boss monster."
Hereon nodded before sprinting towards the group of people on the shore.
Zane cracked his fists.
The wound that the boss monster had created brought him a stinging pain, but he couldn’t show weakness in front of such a foe.
The air around him sparked as his electric aura surrounded him once again.
Lightning formed at his fingertips, almost as if begging to be released.
’Go!’ Zane thought, unleashing the lightning at his fingertips.
It traveled through the air quickly, looking eager to submerge the opponent.
To beat the boss Zane was prepared to use thunder once again, it was able to easily kill the sub-boss and would be able to beat a monster that belonged to the water.
The lightning bolt didn’t hit the boss, instead it hit a massive wall of water.
"It has very good control over the water." Zane noted.
As it made contact with the water it began to evaporate, steam rising in the air as electricity and water met each other.
Zane changed the trajectory of the attack.
The chain of lightning went up into the sky, moving in an intense zigzag pattern that was beautiful to the eyes. Then it went down, seemingly picking up even more speed.
It hit the octopus boss monster squarely on the head, that being due to its inability to conjure water above its head quick enough, instead it had raised its trident to block.
Zane pushed more mana into it.
The trident of water evaporated, the chain lightning hitting the octopus monster.
The octopus monster seemed to be affected, just not in the way that the wolves were.
’Where are they?’ He asked, if this continued as a one-on-one confrontation anymore he might not see the next day.
It was a reckless decision challenging the boss.
He heard the sound of footsteps, the others were approaching.
"They’re here." Hereon announced.
’Good.’
The melee fights charged forward, each one of them with bulging muscles and mana coating their entire body. Swords and daggers were the only weapons being held by the fighters.
Two fireballs were launched at the boss monster, the fireball moving over their heads as they ran.
"Those idiots." Zane cursed under his breath. "They should use elements that will be more effective."
But Zane knew that they wouldn’t be any use if they really did that, none of them had even stepped into rank 4, how would their attacks even affect the boss?
"Do you really plan on killing me with such a pitiful team?" The octopus monster commented.
This time it didn’t use water magic, it taunted the fighters charging at it.
They all charged simultaneously, swinging their swords and stabbing with their daggers.
But their attacks couldn’t pierce it.
The octopus monster kicked one in the stomach, the mere force behind that kick enough to knock the boy unconscious.
The monster let the sword of another hit him, but instead of slicing through it couldn’t even cut the skin.
It sent a punch at another, the girl gushing out blood like a fountain from the nose and mouth. The power behind the attack sent her unconscious body flying away.
The octopus monster’s style was rough and uncoordinated, but it was more than enough to take down rank 5 awakeneds.
Zane swung his dagger, bearing it down the monster’s arm, his singular aim to cut the monster the limb off. Unlike the others the weapon cut through its skin, blue blood staining the weapon as its limb flew off.
A blue liquid gushed out of the place where an arm once was.
"You again." The monster frowned before sending a kick Zane’s way.
Zane felt the wind knocked out of him as the attack landed on him, obviously the monster put much more power in its kick when it hit him than when he hit the others.
He coughed up blood, instead of getting launched away he stood his ground.
Hereon came from behind, his sword coated in flames piercing through the monster’s chest.
The sword didn’t go inside, only the tip had gone through.
He wasn’t strong enough to cut through.
The long-rangers were afraid, afraid that their projectiles would hit their allies if they shot.
They could only stand there, watching as their comrades fell to the floor.
Zane and Hereon were unperturbed even as they racked up more wounds.
A girl among the long-rangers watched this, a look of fear etched onto her features.
’What should I do?’ She questioned herself.
Unfortunately she was part of the people selected to enter the dungeon.
’Should I use it?’ The summoning inscription.
’If I don’t will I survive?’ She clenched her fist, her mind going through a war.
If she used it she would survive but the others would die, if she didn’t they all would die.
’Do I have a choice?’ The next second a piece of paper appeared in her hand.
She stared at the strange symbols on it.
The visualization technique.
She began concentrating, mana forming all around her, even covering her allies.
"What are you doing? You might hit them!" A boy next to her warned.
"I won’t." She said a single word.
She concentrated, her eyes scanning the symbols on the paper before implementing them.
