Chapter 62: Thunder

Hereon stared in horror, his mind struggled to grasp the scene in front of him.

Titania’s lifeless body laid in front of him, her body laid on the floor of the cave. His mind replayed all the times he was with her.

A storm brewed inside him – anger, despair, and a thin line that hung in the balance of his sanity on the verge of breaking – he tried to scream but no words came out.

He had lost all his will to live, he had loved his sister more than he loved himself, now that he was gone there was nothing he could live for.

All his plotting about overthrowing Zane once he became the head of the Hachiman clan, was there really any need for it now?

He had nothing to live for.

But he couldn’t kill himself now.

If he couldn’t kill the cause of all his pain he would never be at peace: the Giant Arachnid Spider.

It was the cause of everything he felt, if he knew that this would happen, instead of shooting Jason he would have shot the spider.

’I can’t die yet.’ Hereon thought.

’I can’t die yet!’

His ring glowed in its blue light, the healing potion appearing in his hand.

He broke the bottle, the glass shards piercing his skin and the contents pouring onto the floor.

Hereon struggled to turn his body, he couldn’t move his arms so he could only wiggle on the ground.

’Its coming.’ He thought, he was on the verge of breaking, going into the folds of insanity.

The spider was coming over, before it rushed, but after killing one of them it was taking its time. Almost as if enjoying the Hachiman’s suffering.

Hereon gritted his teeth as he reached the liquid, he licked it off the ground, his tongue came in contact with the rocks on the ground but he didn’t care.

He finished.

The healing potion had begun to do its work, but this time it was slower.

Using healing potions in quick succession made an awakened build a resistance for it, the more they took without waiting for at least some hours would decrease its effectiveness.

The spider now loomed above him, its form towering over him.

The potion wasn’t done healing him yet, he still couldn’t move.

’Its over.’ Hereon felt all his earlier courage disappearing, replaced by his acceptance of his future.

The spider raised its legs, the one soaking in blood, the one that had pierced through Titania.

"No!" His voice returned to him.

His eyes gained a violent glint.

"No!!" He shouted.

Just then something happened.

A figure covered in blood jumped onto the spider’s body, Hereon couldn’t see the features of the figure clearly, but he noticed he was holding a dagger in hand.

Before the spider could react the figure jumped next to its eyes, the weapon gleamed with a dangerous glint as it went into the monster’s right eye.

In a split-second before the dagger went through its eyes, it sparked with lightning.

Blood sloshed.

The spider let out a screech in agony, its legs dropping onto the ground.

But Hereon had been healed enough.

He rolled out of the way as the sharp leg of the spider came down.

The monster frantically let out its acid from its mouth, the corroding liquid sent in random directions as the spider tried to get off the figure off him.

But the person on him wouldn’t get off, even proceeding to stab the other eye instead.

’No...’

Even thought the figure was damaging the monster it didn’t feel right, it only made him more angry.

"It’s me who will kill it!" He yelled.

Hereon got up, his body began glowing in red mana.

He leapt into the air, landing right on the monster’s body.

Before he was unable to do this as he was occupied with blocking and dodging the monster’s legs.

A longsword appeared in his grasp, the weapon glowed in the same red mana that enveloped the boy.

*CHHHIIIIING

The sound that rang in the air would make the normal person cover his ears.

But Hereon wasn’t concerned about that.

Instead of stopping he pumped more mana into his body, his muscles bulged and the mana around him increased.

He stabbed again.

This time there was no ching.

It went through the spider’s skin.

He stabbed into it again and again.

But even as he did that he couldn’t find the comfort he was supposed to feel.

The spider let out another screech, it was louder than when it was stabbed in the eye.

The large body of the spider fell down onto the ground, the legs suddenly began growing on its head!

"Damn." Hereon muttered jumping away.

The figure followed.

The spider let out another scream as the legs retracted from its head and re-sprouted back in its original position.

The figure’s hand began crackling, Hereon instinctively stepped back when he felt the amount of mana the figure was using.

The lightning in his hands continued to crackle, just more intensely.

The spider rushed at them, Hereon expected the figure to release it and send it at the monster but he held back.

The figure moved backwards just as the spider swung a leg, Hereon ducked and countered by trying to cut a leg off.

*CHHHIIING

He was still unable to cut through the leg completely.

He dodged again.

"Move out of the way." The figure said urgently.

Hereon complied quickly, dodging as a leg swung by him and moved away.

"Now..." The figure muttered to himself, outstretching his arm.

"Thunder."

*BANG

This wasn’t chain lightning, which sent out a concentrated stream of lightning to shock.

This was different...

The lightning shot out at once, but it wasn’t as a projectile, this still seemed like a continuous wave,

The only sound heard was a crack, the blast reaching the monster instantaneously.

A sudden increase in temperature followed immediately.

A huge fork of white light split the air.

It couldn’t even scream as it was roasted alive.

The technique the figure used caused blinding light that made it impossible for someone to watch the display.

It continued for less than two seconds, but when the figure stopped the monster showed no sign of surviving.

The figure fell down onto the rocky ground, he was exhausted after using such a tremendous amount of mana and even using it for 2 seconds was enough to put a significant strain on him.

Hereon was in a daze, he turned to see the figure’s direction.

Zane.

Zane Hachiman.

He fell onto his butt, his fatigue caught up to him with the rush of adrenaline gone.

His earlier emotions re-emerged.

Despair, sadness and fury.

But Zane wasn’t going to give him time to drown in his emotions.

"Who killed him?" Zane asked, his tone was devoid of any warmth.

"What?" Hereon asked.

"Who killed Jason Hachiman."
