Talent System: I Instantly Master My Opponents Skills -
Chapter 60: Through The Heart
Chapter 60: Through The Heart
"The clan head has given me the task of making sure the dark-skin dies in the dungeon, to ensure that you don’t encounter any problems I have gifted you with this weapon."
The Hachiman clan were known as one of the most human clans among the top five clans, they were the kind that wouldn’t resort to meaningless killing.
"It is one-use, do not miss or you won’t survive to tell the tale." His father warned.
...
Hereon felt a sense of unease wash over him, his father’s threat still hung over him as he imagined what they would do to him if he failed.
He might even be disowned at the worst case scenario.
"No." He muttered to himself.
He would kill Jason.
He, his father and his sister all had their reason to hate Jason. He was plotting on how to kill Jason in the dungeon, now he had been presented the opportunity, excuse and even the weapons that he could use.
Though he couldn’t understand why they would use such a treasure on him, from the way he was battered up after fighting the rank 4 dungeon sub-boss wouldn’t a treasure that had been stored with mana from a rank 0 be a bit overboard?
"Another one." His sister’s voice woke him out of his musings.
With the dagger in hand he went over to the corpse and extracted the heart, his sister washed his hand before they continued.
He handed this one over to his sister, the girl’s ring glowed as the heart vanished from her grasp.
As they moved forward the light began to intensify in brightness.
"This one’s still alive."
After walking for what felt like an hour they began to sprint, only stopping upon the occasional corpses to carry the heart and distribute it among themselves.
This spider was alive, it was clear that the person who had been killing the spiders had ignored this one.
Hereon dashed forward, dagger in hand.
His weapon began to emit flames as he moved towards the spider, the monster seeing this spat out a long line of webbing towards him.
Before he could slice it with his blade the web stuck on his clothes, instantly his feet left the ground as the spider flung him towards it.
Its chelicerae was outstretched, ready to bite into him.
’It’s stronger than a goblin.’ Hereon thought.
Just before the spider’s chelicerae could reach him, Hereon felt an aura around him.
His sister had surrounded him with a water armor.
The fang-like mouthparts of the spider monster were unable to break through his water armor.
Before the spider could react to it, Hereon stabbed the dagger into where he believed the spider’s heart was located.
Blood spewed out of the wound as he pulled the dagger out of where he stabbed.
He felt the life in the monster leaving, in a second the webbing stuck to his body turned into ash.
He heaved a breath of relief after watching the monster fall.
"Are you okay?" Titania asked running towards him, the armor around the boy collapsed, water fell onto the ground.
"I’m alright."
He was breathing hard.
She studied her brother’s face, concern was etched onto her face as she placed a hand on his shoulders.
"You shouldn’t charge in like that, that’s reckless."
"Now you act like you don’t do that, but if you were a ranged fighter you would have learned a movement technique to get to your opponent faster."
"And here I was trying to help you, to think you didn’t need help."
Hereon ignored her.
"Let’s keep on moving." He said.
"What about the heart?" She asked.
"Stabbed through it, its already punctured so it won’t count." He began dashing forward.
"Wait for me." Titania shouted before going after him.
They continued running, the light’s intensity growing as the moved forward.
It got to the stage where they couldn’t see anything."
"I can’t see." Titania complained, her steps coming to a complete halt.
"Neither can I, I don’t think he could have gone deeper in here. He must’ve turn back." Hereon said.
He heard Titania’s footsteps, she was heading back.
Hereon ran after her, he followed the noise of her steps against the rocky ground, that was until he stopped hearing them completely.
He still couldn’t see anything, but a second later his eyes adjusted to the dimmer light emanated from the stone in the cavern.
"We were going in a loop." Titania explained.
"While you weren’t here I figured it out, so we’ll take the right path."
Hereon couldn’t register a word his sister said, she didn’t say them in a clustered fashion, it was just that he found it hard to believe his sister figured something out in minutes.
"Are you sure we should take right?" He asked her finally.
"Yeah, a hundred percent sure." She replied.
Hereon shrugged, entrusting himself in his sister’s hands.
The dagger was in his hands as he followed her towards the last path.
They entered it together.
"They’re writings on the wall." Titania said suddenly. "But they look like a monster’s dialect."
"We don’t have time for that, we need to make sure we aren’t going in a loop anymore." Hereon quickly dismissed the writings.
The air was thick with tension as they reached the end of the path.
"It seems like this one isn’t a loop, I was right!" Titania exclaimed.
"But they’re monsters here."
He moved closer to take out their hearts, his hand froze mid-way.
"What is it?"
"...Someone took out their hearts." His expression was serious.
Titania instantly lost her previous persona, her expression turned sour.
They both walked into the opening in the wall, the sensation spread throughout their entire bodies as they were transported to what seemed like a completely different place.
The first thing they saw in this new place wasn’t the interior, rather it was Jason, as they saw him he dodged a spray of venom launched out of a giant spider’s mouth.
But the both of them didn’t focus on the spider.
"Kill him." She said suddenly, her voice lacked its usual life, it was replaced by a chilling coldness.
The dagger disappeared from his hand and was replaced by the crude revolver.
He slowly walked towards their direction, aiming to get into a closer range while making sure neither the sub-boss nor Jason was aware of his presence.
Hereon felt each of his steps, they made sounds he thought was too loud as he approached.
As he entered what he felt was the right range he closed his left eye, if he missed it the consequences would be catastrophic.
The mana at his fingertips seemed to be begging to be released into the treasure in his hands.
’Now.’ Hereon shouted at himself in his thoughts pumping mana into the weapon in his hands.
Jason had just ducked to dodge one of the spider’s legs.
*Bang
A red concentrated blast of mana left the revolver, the treasure in his hands letting out a loud bang as soon as it was released.
Jason turned backwards.
Hereon almost cursed out loud.
The dark-skinned boy’s eyes widened as he saw what was shot at him, but as he was distracted momentarily a leg hit him right in the chest.
Saliva came out of his mouth as he was sent flying, but the boy stabilized himself almost immediately.
Just as he was about to jump to the right to avoid the concentrated blast of mana sent at him, the blast passed right through him.
The katana he was holding dropped from his hand, he put a hand over where the blast had flown through.
His heart.
