Chapter 53: Inside The Cavern

Jason walked to the entrance of the cave.

"This seems like your regular cave." Jason said to himself.

He felt the rocky surface against his fingers, checking to see if it was like he imagined.

He walked back to the entrance of the cave.

With one last look at the outside he stepped into it. He felt a familiar sensation as he put a foot inside, it reminded him of a day ago when the elder warped him to the location where the dungeon portal was located.

He put his whole body through it, the sensation spread throughout the body.

Jason’s eyes widened in surprise.

"The cavern also used teleportation magic." Jason wondered aloud.

He tried to go back through the way he came from but couldn’t, there was an unseen force blocking him from going back.

"What have I gotten myself into, I should have just stayed at the beach."

He resigned himself to his fate and glanced at his surroundings.

When he looked into the cave from outside it wasn’t the same as this, the inside of the cavern now was illuminated by glowing blue rocks.

Jason had no idea about what these rocks were, he could only assume that they were for decoration.

He began moving forward, alert for any unknown enemies.

The cavern was much larger than what it seemed from the outside – Jason could guess that from just looking at the seemingly endless paths – there were also sections that split up.

Jason considered his options; left, straight, or right.

"Left." He muttered before heading in the direction.

He cautiously ventured deeper, even though the blue light the rocks emitted allowed him to see clearer he still couldn’t be so sure.

The rocks seemed to form designs on the walls of the cave that he couldn’t quite decipher, he noticed this but didn’t bother himself too much about this detail.

The ground under his feet was uneven, the rocky surface ruining the soles of his velcro.

As Jason continued he noticed that the light the stones were emitting were increasing in intensity, as if they had more of the fuel they were supposed to use.

He felt something drip onto his head, but as soon as he looked up he jumped back, agitated and shocked by what he saw.

On the ceiling of the cave was a spider.

A spider monster that managed to give him the creeps.

Even looking at it made him shudder.

The spider had long, thin legs that spanned at least 1.5 meters.

And to top it all off it had a large head of at least half a meter.

The monster had long white legs with orange stripes in between, then its head was colored black and had white spots.

In other words, it made him feel a bit of nausea.

Jason immediately summoned his katana, his hand felt eager to dice the spider into 100 bits.

It’s chitinous armor wasn’t as thick as the Giant Arachnid Spider’s, that being said it wouldn’t be hard to cut through the spider.

"It’s resting." Jason noticed.

But then he immediately touched his hair, a liquid fell from the ceiling of the cave and he hoped it wasn’t what he thought it was.

"Thank God." He was relieved to notice that his hair hadn’t been burned through.

He turned his attention back to the spider.

He couldn’t strike from such a disadvantageous position, the cave’s walls wasn’t low and it his handling would be awkward if he tried to strike it.

"Wake up!" Jason shouted.

His voice reverberated through the walls of the cave, bouncing off the walls.

The spider’s eyes instantly shot open, and Jason regretted calling out. He should have just tried to kill it when he was asleep, if then he would have not had to see it’s eyes.

The monster’s eyes was pushing him close to the edge, he was close to vomiting.

However, he hadn’t eaten anything for two days.

The spider slowly descending from the ceiling to the ground, when it was close to the ground it let go of the webbing and spun mid-air.

It’s long legs almost took up the entire room.

Jason’s eyes glowed with a dangerous glint, as soon as the spider landed on the ground Jason dashed forward.

It wasn’t that Jason hated all spiders; he just hated unusual creatures: a creature with small head but long legs and the likes.

With a swift motion Jason closed the distance between him and the arachnid monster, without a second thought he swung the weapon down.

But he wasn’t aiming to kill it immediately, his blade cut off two of the spider legs.

The chitinous armor on its body could barely do anything to stop his katana.

Jason expected a screech but the monster made no sound.

He changed the trajectory of the blade and executed an vertical upward slash at its other legs.

They were easily cut off, like butter.

The monster’s chelicerae twitched as it launched out a single line of webbing.

Jason was caught unprepared, the web latched onto his body.

"What the hell?" Jason said in surprise.

He moved backwards, trying to disconnect it by increasing the distance between himself and the monster. But the string between them only lengthened.

"It seems like I can’t break it by increasing the distance." Jason realized.

Before he could do anything else, he felt the spider tugging at him. But it couldn’t propel him towards it because he was too sturdy.

A smile crept unto his face.

But a second later it was only replaced with a frown.

He had wanted to drag the monster towards him and replicate Scorpion’s signature "Get Over Here!" move, but he remembered that he was one-armed.

He immediately cut the web connecting he and the spider then dashed forward again.

"Die!" He yelled out loud.

He stabbed the katana into the head of the spider, its blood stained his weapon.

"Die!"

He stabbed it again.

And again.

Then in anger, he kicked the spider’s body away, it was sent crashing into the wall.

Jason went over to inspect the body.

"They’re only weak spot is their head." Jason noted, he wanted to inspect the leg of the monster to see how such thin legs could hold the head up, but he couldn’t bring himself to do it.

He stopped to stare at the body of the defeated monster, now that its existence was a past tense he found that it was easier to look at.
