Chapter 52: The Other Side Of The Dungeon

Chapter 52: The Other Side Of The Dungeon

...

Jason arrived back at the beach by noon.

By the time he had come back he met several other people already there.

"For a dungeon this place seems a little bit small."

In the novel it was mentioned that even the smallest dungeons were the size of a large city, but this one was clearly as small as a town.

It seemed just like an island; trees, a beach, and even the jungle like interior.

"This place seems like a sub-division." Jason mused out loud as he watched the waves.

The sea stretched as far as the average eye could see.

"Could this actually be an underwater dungeon but we actually spawned in a different place?"

The thought seemed correct as the land over covered the space of a small town.

"No, that can’t be it." He dismissed the thought easily.

The Giant Arachnid Spider obviously couldn’t swim.

"Then what could it be?" He fell onto his back while musing.

His train of thought connected to the sea; it was there for some reason, that he was sure of, he just couldn’t figure out the reason.

"Argh, This is so confusing!"

The boy sat upright and got into a meditative position, his legs were crossed and his hands were placed on his knee.

Jason took in a deep breath before closing his eyes.

He began to vision his mind’s landscape, like a painter who was about to add life to an empty canvas, he designed the view he wanted to see.

Himself.

Also meditating.

’I might just be the most imaginative person to walk this earth.’ Jason thought as he watched himself.

Slowly, the image he had created in his mindscape disappeared, it faded into the background leaving nothing there in its stead.

After an hour he finally opened his eyes.

He had been meditating for an hour...

"Null eyes." Jason murmured to himself as he activated the technique.

His eyes suddenly became a greater shade of blue. His eyes which were once tame were brimming with untold powers of destruction.

With the Null eyes active his eyesight increased by leaps and bounds, he could see far better. It was as if he had just pulled back a see-through curtain that had been obstructing his view.

Not only did his eyesight become clearer but his field of vision increased drastically.

"Is that...!" Jason couldn’t get the words out because he was shocked himself.

"...A damned cavern!"

He really found it hard to believe that this was a part of the dungeon but not the main part in itself.

It made sense actually, the elder had said a lot of bullshit about surviving even when the monsters they were supposed to fight were weak.

Dungeons could range from any landscape; destroyed cities, forests, swamp lands, volcanoes and even the beachside they had encountered.

"This really is a triple in all ways." Jason lamented.

Sub-bosses, beach section and even cavern section.

This simple rank 4 dungeon had already surpassed the requirements for a triple dungeon.

"I wonder why it had to happen when I participated?"

The author of TWODK hadn’t really been specific about Zane’s past life as Zane was a character that had a bit of a mental health problem.

But then again, the author could have been planning it.

Putting a lot of nonsense about Zane losing a friend in the dungeon and then started speaking to himself as if haunted by the friend’s ghost.

"Well, I better not focus on that now. When I leave the dungeon I’ll have a lot of free time to think about it."

Jason got up from his cross-legged position and stared at the vast sea with the Null eyes active.

"How do I cross it?" He questioned himself.

He could try two ways:

The first one was running on water, he only understood that he would need to run fast enough to push against the water before the surface tension breaks to run on water. And he also understood that he could do that with a speed of 60 miles per hour.

The second option was much more logical but also more difficult, one-armed swimming.

Jason could barely swim with a two arms, much less just a single one.

"One-armed swimming it is."

Jason wasn’t dumb, even if his top speed had already reached or even surpassed 60 miles per hour he couldn’t take any chances.

So, without even pulling his clothes he walked to the water’s edge.

He could see the undulating waves.

They looked deceptively calm, but Jason could sense that when he entered the tides would change.

He took a deep breath, staying so close to the water made him feel the salty air up close.

"Here goes nothing." Jason said to himself.

With determination etched on his features, he jumped into the sea, the water splashed as he made contact with it.

Jason felt himself adjusting to the cold embrace of the water.

He braced for what would happen next.

Jason submerged his body until only his face remained above the surface.

’Just breathe.’ He thought. ’And try not to drown.’

He began a one-armed stroke, propelling himself as best as he could in the waters. Jason soon discovered that one-armed swimming was far from easy.

Just to move forward he relied heavily on his legs.

"Hey, is he actually trying to swim?"

Jason almost rolled his eyes, he knew they were about to start taunting him.

"Woah, I think the spider might have hit his head too hard." This comment was followed by intense laughter.

Jason tried his best to channel out their nose, but it was just too overpowering.

It took intense willpower to stop himself from going back there to knock some sense into them.

"Focus..."

"Focus."

"You’ll have time for them later on."

Those were Jason’s words of encouragement as he propelled himself forward in the sea.

And true to his thoughts, not even 10 minutes after he began swimming the waves began to get intense.

The water fought him.

It splashed against him with each stroke of the arm, as if the spirits of the sea were determined to make sure he didn’t get to his destination.

Even though it was against him he still continued.

...

Jason yawned.

After swimming against the waves for an hour he finally could bare it anymore and yawned out of boredom, the monotonous act of swimming forward had started to get on his nerves.

But the waves seemed to respond to his yawn and it started to get even more turbulent.

"Did I anger the lord of the oceans?" Jason couldn’t help but wonder aloud.

He stopped making any progress.

He moved a bit, only to be taken back by the huge wave.

To respond the growing intensity of the waves, he began to move his legs faster.

With each stroke he moved forward, his doubts about making it early faded.

He was on a mission to kill the next sub-boss, and the cavern was the only possible place where it was.

Over time, the sun set. But Jason had already began to see his goal.

He had deactivated the Null eyes a while ago, yet he was still able to see the cavern, that meant that he was almost at his destination.

He began to swim even faster.

After what felt like an eternal battle against the sea, Jason finally broke through the waves and reached the shore, he did the only thing he could do and flopped onto the shore.

His chest came heaving up.

"Finally, I’ve been doing this for hours." Those were the first words that left his mouth.

Jason felt himself, he had been so accustomed to the water that he couldn’t tell the difference between his dry self and his wet self.

’I’m soaked.’

The only thought in his mind was waiting on the shore until the next day.

But he had a job to do.

Jason sat up slowly, the grains of sand clung to his wet skin as a gentle breeze blew by. He took a moment to look at the cavern in front of him.

It was big, large even.

It was befitting of a place that contained monsters, unlike some other place.

He let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding in.

A/N: Sorry if this felt a bit "somehow" because I was rushing, also this is the only Chapter of the day because I had typed 1200 words then realized that this Chapter made a really big plothole, so I had to remove it and start again.

This is approximately 1400 words and I’m just trying to add a hundred words extra to meet the criteria.

I want to use this chance to thank the readers.

Even though this book isn’t the best on rising fictions (trust me, I really checked everyone) it also isn’t the worst.
