Chapter 48: Thief
Chapter 48: Thief
...
The night was quiet, broken only by the occasional splashing of the waves on the shores and the snores from some deep-sleepers.
Jason stirred awake as he felt someone tugging at his fingers.
He only had five fingers currently, and the person was dragging particularly at his middle finger.
’My ring.’
Any trace of drowsiness that was in him disappeared instantly, replaced by a sharp clarity as opened his eyes, the same way he did on the day of his birth.
He got up in a flash, grabbing the person by the finger to prevent them from running away.
The person whimpered under his grip, the bones in the fingers were broken from the strength behind the grip.
’You thought you could steal my space ring.’ Jason didn’t voice out the thoughts he had.
It was a girl that decided to turn crook.
Black short hair, black eyes, an average face, black clothing.
In other words, unremarkable.
Jason was a firm believer in equality, he would treat this girl the same way he would treat any other person that tried to steal his stuff.
He had already broken some bones so it was time for the main course.
Before she could do anything he swiftly chopped the girl on her on the neck.
The girl’s body slumped as she lost consciousness.
Jason threw her body away like it was a rag doll, the unconscious human rolled on the ground after landing before coming to a complete stop.
’With that, she’ll just believe that it was a dream.’
He had already done a lot of killing today, and if he killed someone again others would start to get suspicious.
A serial killer in their ranks?!
When they were obviously the people who had attacked him first!
Jason laid back down on the sand, he wasn’t a deep sleeper yet he thought he slept for probably 7 hours.
’After just a single hour of an intense work-out.’
He had believed that the training he put his body through daily before the start of his lessons would help him in a real fight, but even with his immense strength a mere rank 4 sub-boss was closer to killing him than he thought the actual boss would be.
He thought he would solo this dungeon, however he realized that if he were to face the dungeon boss with all the sub-bosses he would most likely kick the bucket.
The Giant Arachnid Spider was already too much.
If he had better weapons...
"I still have the three sectioned staff the elder gave me."
He pressured the ring on his finger, the treasure responded by glowing in a dim light, a weapon appeared in his hand.
The three sectioned staff was colored red, it had black small stars as the design for the body and even the chains that connected the parts together were black.
"This isn’t my style." Jason could only shake his head.
Even though this weapon could increase his strength by 1.5 or so, it didn’t correlate with his fighting style, which was basically one armed fighting style.
If he practiced hard he would be able to use it, but mastering a third weapon didn’t correlate well with what his schedule.
The three-sectioned-staff felt alien in his grip, it felt like something that he would have relished the chance to use when he had two hands, when he was more flexible, adaptable, and more willing to learn a new style.
Jason exhaled through his nose and let the staff vanish, the ring glowed dimly as it was transferred back into the space ring.
As he laid back on the sand, sleep didn’t come for him, he had already slept for a long time already, he slept for so long that he couldn’t even tell the time now.
There was no sun or moon in the dungeon, yet it was able to mimic earth’s features.
His thoughts wondered to the dungeon.
If the Giant Arachnid Spider had hit the same place twice he would have died, but luckily the spider didn’t have enough brainpower to figure that out, coupled with the fact that it was unlucky when its second attack hit him in the gut.
’At least I still finished the goblin massacre.’ It was just a passing thought, but it fit the moment perfectly when he thought about it.
On a whim, he killed over 80 monsters.
It would be a crime if he said that the decision to kill all the monsters didn’t stem from a passing thought. From there, he carried on the whim dutifully.
Jason’s eyes glanced in the direction of the girl who had tried to steal from him.
Her body laid on the sand, unconscious and sleeping peacefully.
’She’s probably going to die next.’
The girl was weak, very weak.
But then again it wasn’t his business, he already had a girl at home that he took care of.
Jason got up again, he was getting restless. Sleep had already escaped his grasp and wasn’t coming anytime soon.
He wasn’t about to do nothing at night when he could be doing something.
He examined his body, the bruises the giant spider had left him were gone. The only evidence that he was attacked by it was his torn clothes.
He took a single glance at his clothes that reeked of blood and took a look at the shimmering seawater.
Jason went towards the water.
...
Zane staggered through the bushes.
He was limping on one leg and had blood pouring out of the wound the wolf had given him.
There were also several other bites over his body.
Also his eardrums had burst from the wolves howls.
But he had managed to slay all of the wolves and successfully exterminated their kind, removing the Black horned wolves and the Jade fanged wolves from the dungeon, even the ones that returned after he was done were still killed.
But even then, he was still beaten up pretty badly after they ganged up on him.
It was only when the leader of the pack came that he began to have some problems.
The monster was a Jade fanged wolf.
The wolf seemed to be at the peak of rank 5 and was well on its way to rank 4, while Zane was rank 3 he was still getting use to his power. But even then he didn’t have a hard time fighting the monster.
When he had the leader of the pack at his mercy he was suddenly ambushed, several fangs came biting down all over his body.
Because he couldn’t hear anything he was caught unaware when they bit down on him, they came from behind him as to not alert him.
Zane’s leg wobbled as he staggered forward, his breathing was short and ragged.
The poison the wolves had put in him was called rabies.
One bite wasn’t enough to affect him as he was far more superior in strength than the beasts, but six bites had successfully done the trick.
His access to his mana was cut off so he couldn’t bring out anything that would heal him.
Zane’s thoughts were hazy, survival seemed like a fleeting memory.
Sleep beckoned at him, calling it into its loving, cold embrace, it was only willpower that stopped him from closing his eyes and going into an eternal slumber.
He collapsed on the ground.
’No... no, not like this.’
He stretched his arm forward and grabbed onto the earth, his nails dug into it the soil, he was using the earth to push himself.
