Chapter 42: Goblin Massacre (4)

Chapter 42: Goblin Massacre (4)

Headless bodies. They were still dripping with blood.

They surrounded him like an array, and painted a grotesque scene for the onlookers.

"Just three bodies left." He had stopped regarding them as living things long ago, they were bodies that would soon fall dead.

Jason awaited for the monsters to charge at him, and fall like the rest.

Instead they began talking to themselves, even though he couldn’t understand the language he knew that their tones were grave. Something was being discussed, something that had a grave meaning.

The two monsters looked at each other, their faces were expressing things that couldn’t just be said with words alone.

The old hobgoblin had been guarded by those two and that was the reason it had survived this long.

The monsters suddenly fell lifelessly onto the ground.

"What the hell?"

He would’ve already went up close to the old hobgoblin and removed its head if not for the fact that he didn’t understand what was happening.

The old hobgoblin glowed dimly, its body emanating a purple, malevolent energy that seem to corrode the souls of the other two hobgoblins.

The two hobgoblins corpses began deteriorating at an alarming pace, from corpses to carcasses that emitted a very pungent smell, to bones that seemed to have been stripped.

’What the hell?’ Jason repeated but in his mind.

He didn’t understand what was happening, he should have already ran there to disrupt the monster’s magic but after seeing the corrosion powers he hesitated.

But there was also another thing that stopped him; he felt like this was above most magic he had encountered, he was itching for a decent fight.

"It make’qwot mentos’sisisis!" The leader spat ruefully at Jason.

But he didn’t understand the language the monster was speaking, he was focused on the body of the last hobgoblin. It was expanding fast, it seemed like it was going to explode at any minute.

*Bang

The body of the monster exploded. Flesh, intestines, internal organs and the eyeballs flew out in all directions.

"What in the world did I just sign up for?!" Jason asked himself.

Giant Arachnid Monster.

A massive spider with gray carapace on its’ abdomen with eight legs that were covered in black chitinous armor, it had gray exposed joints to enable mobility.

It also had five red glowing eyes with the last one being the smallest.

Jason was shocked at the display, only a single sentence was on his lips.

"Summoning magic."

Magic that required the life of the medium to summon a creature to a specific place.

"But this is even worse; this is a triple." Jason couldn’t help but groan.

Triple dungeons didn’t apply that it was a dungeon inside a dungeon inside a dungeon, it implied that there were two sub-bosses and one main boss. By taking out the sub-bosses first the main boss would be significantly weakened.

But a triple dungeon meant that if you refused to take out the sub-bosses you would eventually face the three altogether when you get to the dungeon’s boss location.

It would be a drag fighting three bosses simultaneously, and Jason actually wanted to defeat the dungeon boss and leave the dungeon before the seven day time limit was over.

But facing the three at once was a serious killer to his motivation.

Nevertheless he would carry on diligently. It would just be that, his plans would be delayed.

The monster hissed, it released a guttural sound that resounded through the air before beginning to move slowly towards Jason.

Jason was only confident in facing this monster because of his countless image training, something that had become a part of him.

"It’s skin looks pretty tough... I wonder if I could cut it as easily as the goblins." Jason wondered aloud.

To inflict a deep wound, he would have to make sure his handling of the weapon was correct so it wouldn’t break on impact.

The spider stopped before Jason then raised its two front legs.

’What is it trying to-"

His thoughts were interrupted as the spider’s leg hit him solidly in the chest, he felt a stinging pain in his chest and blood flew out of his; it was different from what the goblins could do, as he was sent flying backwards.

He hit a tree positioned in the dense greenery.

Jason got up from the floor and saw the spider was already approaching him.

"Fuck!" He couldn’t help but curse.

If his constitution wasn’t high he would have died from the sheer power behind the leg.

His shirt had a large gaping hole in it and his chest was bleeding.

"If the spider manages to hit the same place again I’m screwed." Jason wiped the blood on his lips.

His eyes flashed with readiness as he focused on the spider in front of him.

He would have to take this down, and exert some effort.

’Here it comes.’

He lowered his head, he managed evade a leg.

’Another one.’

Jason turned his body to the side, the spider’s leg wheezed by him as he advanced by a step.

The leg was aimed for his head again but he managed to duck in time. He took two more steps forward.

The sound of the spider’s leg striking the ground struck his ear but each time he dodged.

After each strike he took a step forward, if he dared to be careless and rush in he would be hit again, and if he was unlucky and it happened to be the same place struck before he would be a dead man.

...

The young awakeneds could not believe their ears.

"Wh- what the hell is that?!" One of them asked frightened.

The sound made each time one of the spider’s leg hit the ground managed to raise hairs on their back even when they didn’t know what was happening the noise was enough to frighten them.

It didn’t take a fool to know that such sounds could only be made by a strong monster.

"Was it the dark-skin that caused this?"

It was in that direction that he had head out to, but what could he have done to warrant such madness?!

"What did that bastard do?!" Several enraged screams sounded out as the frightened youths gazed warily at the direction of the noise.

But there was nothing that could be done.

"A team of six are going out to confront the monster." A voice rang out through the desperation of the youths.

Who else could it be but Hereon?

Seeing that nobody even volunteered to venture towards the threat he had to threaten them. "If nobody complies then 6 random people would be chosen, and if anyone from the six complain then they’ll be fed to the monsters."

Silence.

Until.

"You can’t do that!"

"Number one." Hereon announced.

The girl that had said it was petrified at the fact that her name was called out, she looked around for people who would help her.

But no one came out. Her mind went wild with the image of being fed to the monsters.

She frighteningly stepped forward.

"You. You. You. You. You." He pointed at the remaining five.

The poor children had no other choice but to step out, if they angered a member of the main family they’re own branch family would fall out of favor and suffer.

They could only curse him silently as they stepped out.

"And you." Hereon continued "You’ll be they’re leader, you don’t have to do anything and if it gets dangerous you can order your team to retreat." Hereon ordered after he pointed at a random Hachiman.

The boy didn’t want to do such a thing, but Hereon was the only son of the second elder. He had no choice but to comply.

A single thought was fixed in all of their minds.

’Why did I come here...?’

They wanted to cry.
