Chapter 40: Goblin Massacre (2)

Chapter 40: Goblin Massacre (2)

...

Blood.

The red liquid littered the once light brown sand on the beach of the dungeon, it also dyed the bodies of the various individuals that had fought.

Goblins and Humans.

The only difference between the two was that one side had died; not a single survivor was left while the other had lost a handful.

The goblins had been eradicated, their kind was removed from the rank 4 dungeon.

A stack of corpses were piled at a side on the beach, the corpses had green skin and were undoubtedly goblins.

Flames spurted from the pile as a lone figure watched it burn, their shoes crunched softly under the sand.

The air was filled with the acrid scent of burning flesh.

The survivors – kids who had been thrown into a rank 4 dungeon – were disturbed, some eyes looked like they had just seen hell itself while others mourned for lost friends.

The wind kicked up, it sent the smoke drifting towards their direction. The waves even started splashing against the seashore.

"The waves seem too peaceful, it contradicts beautifully with the burning corpses."

He had just killed 50 monsters, aside from being a bit tired he couldn’t feel anything else.

Jason wiped his blade as he watched the bodies burn, his expression was nonchalant.

Among the pile of corpses, a single goblin twitched.

He walked towards the mountain of bodies and crouched to check on the monster that twitched.

"Oh, it looks like you’re still alive." Jason smiled, but his smile had no warmth in it.

It was among the very first monsters that had been stacked.

Its breathing was loud from up-close, it struggled to get air into its lungs, not only was it pressed down by over 40 other goblins but the smoke also made it harder to breathe.

"I believe its time to end your suffering." With those words he dug his dagger into the center of its forehead.

The monster stopped twitching, its loud breathing stopped completely as its body became limp.

"This should be all." Jason got up, he looked around.

He wiped his blade again.

The empty eyes that seemed like they had just seen hell itself, some were dead while others were alive, a few even had serious bruises that would ensure death...

This place reeked of blood.

But he could tell that he was not done.

This was a rank 4 dungeon, it wasn’t logical that only goblins, monsters below even rank 5 were the only monsters in this area.

There would also be creatures like Hobgoblins and even their higher evolution stages in this dungeon, his first thought was that even the goblins system of leadership could be hierarchical; the normal goblins would be the lowest, their evolved form, hobgoblins, would be ranked higher than them and it would go up in the corresponding manner.

He wanted to massacre all the goblins, and that would also include their evolved forms.

In that sense he wanted to search for the location of the hobgoblins before proceeding to killing them.

Jason began walking in a random direction, he had already gathered over thirty hearts so he just wanted to take this leisurely.

"Hey, stop!" A voice called out to him.

Jason didn’t respond.

"Please..." The voice sounded desperate.

Jason’s interest was piqued, he turned his head in the direction of the voice. It was the boy that he had "stolen" the kill from.

He was running towards him.

From Jason’s memory he was one of those that had stage 1 early stats.

"...Don’t go by yourself!"

"Why?"

"You can’t leave us!" He said in despair. "You killed over 40 goblins. The strongest can’t abandon us or we’ll all die."

Jason didn’t answer, he was willing to see to what lengths the boy would go.

"Why? This is a trial."

"Please, I’ll do anything. Just don’t leave me behind!" Desperation was laced into his every word. "If you’ll go alone, you might find the hobgoblins and they you will die too, but if we stick together..."

Jason raised an eyebrow, his expression was still nonchalant.

The boy’s eyes were wide with fear. It was a common response after seeing something that was so terrifying it seemed unreal.

"You say ’If we stick together’, if I was a nice person I would act like you weren’t struggling against three goblins sometime ago." Each of his words were harsh. "You should follow the majority instead of going with me."

"You can’t go! Don’t you care for human lives? Why abandon us, we’re all human beings and we don’t have to lose anymore?!"

"I don’t remember saying that I cared about any of your lives. You weren’t my responsibility when you entered the dungeon and you aren’t going to be now."

"Your power will inspire hope in all of us, if we have someone as strong as you we know that there’s a fighting chance." The boy was persistent.

"Hope isn’t a strategy, it’s a fools bet. Leaving everything to a 50-50 chance is stupid, it might go either way."

Anger rose in the boy’s chest as he realized that his pleas were falling on deaf ears. "Just because you’re stronger you think that you can ignore us-"

"Yes. Yes, I can." Jason said before resuming his walk.

"Please don’t leave us..."

"Some of us may emerge stronger, others will not. In my opinion you should find out how you’ll survive the next seven days instead of disturbing me."

"It’s just the first day and you’re already begging for help."

He didn’t turn back again, despite the amount of times the boy called out to him again he didn’t stop moving forward.

Jason applied pressure to his fist and stored the dagger in the space ring before proceeding to take out the katana.

"Good luck." Jason’s voice reverberated through the beach in the dungeon, he was wishing it on the only person who talked to him like he was a normal human being.

He secretly exhaled a deep breath after going through a lot of pressure.

His attitude wasn’t normally cold, it had taken a lot of self-control to stop himself from yielding to the boy’s pleads.

"Hereon." The word just rolled off his tongue.

It was the same person that had asked Jason to work under him.

He could decently hold his own against 3 goblins but there didn’t seem to be that much of a difference between him and the other main family heirs.

Jason had broken his sister’s hand, even though the boy had been discreet about it his eyes had a violent glint in them. He was rearing to get revenge.

In other words, a siscon.

Null eyes.

Jason’s eyes glowed in with a brighter intensity as he stared forward.

A few kilometers after leaving the beach there would be some trees up ahead, using the trees as a cloak for their activities there were monsters.

He could see them. Clearly.

Hobgoblins.

They were just like he imagined: Uglier, bulkier goblins that looked like they had shit for brains.

Jason deactivated the technique, his eyes lost their intensity.

"It’s always so taxing when I use the Null eyes." Jason complained.

The Null eyes allowed him to trap people in the Null, void. But it came at the cost of mana, a large amount.

He didn’t have mana so it depended on his mental strength to use.

If Jason constantly used the Null eyes he would have a higher mental stat, but at the cost of constantly getting migraines.

"Up ahead." Jason said shaking the thoughts out of his head.

He had a massacre to get to.
