Chapter 39: Goblin Massacre (1)
As Jason’s fist came in contact with the goblin’s body the sound of a drum being hit resounded in the air, his fist rested on the goblin’s small frame.
The goblin looked confused as it felt no damage, it quickly launched it’s own counterattack.
Using the rusty blade it slashed at Jason’s chest area, the blade tore through the shirt but the instant it made contact with his skin it bounced off.
Almost as if his body was made to steel.
Jason quickly recovered, he moved backwards to get away from the monster and clear his head.
"This isn’t what I expected." Jason shook his head. "Even though it requires magic I didn’t think that-"
He shook his head again and tried to get the thought out of his brain, if delayed fist didn’t work that just meant it was only useful if he could use mana.
The goblin lunged at him again, but Jason was ready.
*Bang
The monster’s upper body burst open like a balloon, intestines spilling out of its internal frame and a crimson red liquid spreading out in all directions.
He wasn’t prepared for this.
The blood soaked his clothes and his body, his once blue attire now red. He was lucky the blood had entered his eyes.
Staring at the explosion, the wave of confusion that came was lifted off him.
"Damn." Was the only thing he said.
"The system does really redesign any physical move I get."
This was the effect of delayed fist.
Delayed fist was a technique that delayed the impact of an attack for some seconds, during the time before the impact was released it spread out through the body.
Originally, the physical impact came first and after some seconds the impact from the mana that had spread through the body would be released.
But in his case everything spread throughout the body and was then released at once.
Jason was using his full strength; he was caught up in the moment of finally acquiring a new talent after so long that he didn’t hold his the power behind his punch back.
A single blow from him could "pop" a goblin as long as he used his full strength.
At most his fists would be a little bruised.
"I could kill all these goblins..."
"No."
The goblin before him had got its heart burst as well, he wasn’t sure if the clan was going to take the destroyed hearts.
It seemed like he would have to exert a little less effort when fighting, it would be better if he used the katana or a dagger.
"The three-sectioned staff is off the list, I might just use it as awkwardly as I used the katana for the first time."
Jason stood there for a moment, the goblin’s blood soaking into his clothes.
It was disgusting, slicking the fabric of his shirt and making it cling to his body.
He squeezed his hand together and the ring glowed, he retrieved the dagger from the space ring.
Not a newbie at using the weapon but also not a master, he couldn’t use it as well as Zane but he could still be considered good.
Jason was using this opportunity to test himself in a fight where the enemy wanted him dead, and so far he wasn’t excited as he thought he would be. If it wasn’t for delayed fist he would be pissed off at how underwhelming the goblins were.
So Jason was going to use this chance to practice with his weapons.
His eyes scanned the battlefield as he looked for his next prey.
There were no more free goblins, each one was engaged in a fight with humans and none seemed to be in the position to ambush.
The humans were getting overwhelmed.
After the goblins continuous sneak attacks were thwarted they actively began fighting.
Somebody had already fallen.
A girl... She was dead.
Her body laid on the ground, forgotten, even the people who had cared for her were busy.
Jason didn’t care.
She was insignificant.
And weak.
In a flash he left his original position. If the goblins were preoccupied he was going to visit them.
He stabbed into the back of a goblin, it was a female.
The boy, who had been simultaneously fending against three goblins focused his attention on the other two.
The goblin coughed out blood, the liquid trailed down its body as it had its final breath.
Then died.
Jason did not waste time, he proceeded to remove the dagger and then opened the body with his hand.
"Again?!" Jason asked himself.
He had punctured the heart.
"Well it isn’t as destroyed as the last one." He removed the heart and kept it inside his space ring.
The other goblins didn’t bother with his presence, they were tiring the boy out and they would soon kill him.
That was what they thought.
This was why Goblins weren’t smart monsters.
As a goblin struck down on a boy and opened a wound it was swiftly stabbed in the head. It didn’t even know how he died.
Jason had decided to aim for the head, so the heart would be Ok.
He opened the goblin and took the heart out then put it in his ring.
"That makes three." He muttered to himself.
He had killed two goblins before and the female goblin he had killed had a punctured heart so he didn’t count it.
The boy battling the goblin turned his attention to Jason.
A one-armed mana-less boy had just taken two of his kills, not only did it hurt his pride that he had done it faster than him but he also took the hearts out too!
Jason cut the head of the last goblin off cleanly before it registered him as a threat.
The body fell limp onto the ground.
Jason then bent down and began to open the body up to retrieve the heart.
"Hey, stop!" The boy’s tone was a mixture of disbelief and frustration.
Jason didn’t look up but his tone was cold. "What?"
"You can’t just steal my kills and act like everything is okay!"
’It was so obvious that he was going to die if he kept fighting the three goblins, theoretically I saved him and he can’t even thank me.’
"Can’t I?"
"Of course not!" The boy said as his anger boiled over.
He raised his longsword threateningly.
"Stop acting like I killed your brother and sister and scram." Jason added. "Or perhaps, you want to join the goblins?"
The boy was visibly shaken by the threat, he looked at the last goblin that its heart hadn’t been taken and thought of the effort he had put to fend off the monsters.
Disheartened, he walked away.
Jason turned his attention back to the goblin.
He opened it up and ignored the internals.
They didn’t bother him as much as they were supposed to. Just like the system had nullified his mental anguish when he had killed Clark it also didn’t allow him to feel anything.
He didn’t focus on the thought, he ripped the still heart out of the monster.
The space ring glowed as Jason put the heart in its space.
"That makes four, three more to go."
Jason suddenly had a wicked thought.
He grinned maliciously.
"I think I’ll do a goblin massacre."
