Chapter 164: Fight Against Rank 0s (1)
...
The stronger the physical stat got, the higher the strength disparity. But that did not necessarily mean that someone just one sub-stage lower couldn’t defeat someone with one sub-stage higher.
And the physical stat was solely dependent on dexterity, speed and strength. Other variables like height and weight weren’t included in it.
If creatures like the orc boss put all their weight behind an attack could muster strength it could even be a whole sub-stage higher than their stats.
...
Jason stretched his limbs as he watched what was unfolding...
Literally nothing.
There was nothing happening at the moment, just the regular hustle and bustle of the people on the road.
From above, it didn’t even look like the civilians were being held captive, however he had been filled by Flourn on the details.
The civilians were being used so the CA would have no other choice but to engage them directly.
This was done to ensure their main forces wouldn’t be eliminated too early.
"Are you sure they’re coming?"
Jason questioned as he finished his stretches.
"From their half a dozen rank 0 awakeneds our reports say that they have at least two with sensory skills.
By now they should have already detected our presence and made plans to deal with us..."
His voice trailed off.
Jason watched him.
"Look up."
Flourn said, prompting the boy to look up.
Jason looked up.
From what he could currently see, six people were descending from the top of the CA building.
With his eyesight he could easily make out their forms
"They’re finally coming."
He murmured as he scanned them.
[Name: Amelia
Age: 38
Physical – Early Stage 5
Mental – Mid Stage 5
Mana – Mid Stage 4
Skills: Hunt]
[Name: None
Age: 30
Physical – Early Stage 4
Mental – Mid Stage 5
Mana – Late Stage 5
Skills: Lightning Magic]
’These two are the strongest of those six.’
Jason mused as he checked their stats.
’Not only that but they’re the youngest as well.’
A slight grin played at his lips.
The woman was alright, her stats showed she was geared towards attack. The others that accompanied them were either geared towards close combat or long range.
But the woman had the highest physical stat out of all of them, making her the first person Jason knew to avoid.
The man on the other hand was strange and had caught his eyes as well.
He didn’t have a name, at least, not one recognized by the system.
Like Lyra.
’He doesn’t have a name given from birth.’
The system only recognized names given to a creature from birth, it didn’t discriminate between monsters and humans, as long as they had a name it would show.
’But given his level of talent he isn’t as strong as she is.’
"What should we do, wait for them to descend or shoot at them from above?"
Jason questioned as they watched the rank 0s descend.
"You want to use magic? Or perhaps you have a skill for that?"
"A skill."
Jason asserted before raising his hand, his fingers imitating a gun.
*Bang
He shot.
The process of shooting with this skill wasn’t too complex. It took a little bit of his nature energy but still required him to thrust his hand forward.
However, to make it seem like his hand didn’t move at all he would move it backwards before thrusting it forward.
*Bang
He shot again.
The two air bullets were sent forward, moving through the air like a force of nature.
’They’re going to dodge.’
He thought.
Unless he was using it to attack directly, firing at someone in front of him, they were just going to dodge it.
And they did dodge it while mid-air.
’What else would I expect?’
"They’re about a dozen of them falling currently."
Flourn stated.
"Yes, I can see that."
"When is Kira getting here?"
He questioned.
"Soon, but I do know that he’s coming."
He knew Kira and he knew that the boy would come, even bringing Asahi with him.
"He should arrive soon, otherwise my men will lose this fight."
As the rank 0s landed the ground cracked underneath them, spiraling into spiderweb cracks.
"Try and handle two of them, me and my men will hold off the other four until Kira gets here."
He leaped down from the building, his face still kept that expressionless face.
It made Jason wonder if he ever showed anything except that throughout, it momentarily distracted him from the reality that he was about to face his second rank 0s.
Jason cracked his fingers as he observed them, his eyes washing over them. This time he wasn’t looking at stats, rather he was looking at their appearances.
Anything from hidden weapon to the type of clothing they were wearing.
’That woman will be the hardest to deal with.’
He thought as he put a foot forward, he soon continued this by walking.
The woman, Amelia had the highest strength stat of all of them, it was obvious that she was a close-combatant.
That man on the other hand had the highest mana stat, the man’s mana stat was equal to his physical stat.
If he was facing the man by himself it would be hard to kill him, the same went for if he fought all the long range combatants.
’If I want Flourn and his men to survive I’ll have to take down the strongest of the bunch.’
He thought.
’Or maybe they’re planning to fight us by splitting into groups of three.’
Suddenly, they moved.
They split into two groups, one comprising of four awakeneds and the other comprising of only two.
Surprisingly, it was two random awakeneds that had charged at him.
Both of them weren’t even close combatants, they’re expertise was at long range.
’This is stupid.’
Jason thought.
’Or maybe it’s good?’
He would be able to deal with this people with minimal effort, decreasing the workload for Flourn and then go for the other two that he wanted to fight.
"What do you want?"
Jason questioned as they approached each other.
The other remained oblivious to his words, choosing to act as if they didn’t hear.
’They’re charging up magic.’
He thought.
But he didn’t bother to increase his walking pace, he still kept that slow pace, walking as if nothing could make him move faster.
"What do you want?"
He asked again.
There was no answer as well.
Now it was clear that they were ignoring him, choosing to channel out his words.
’So they don’t plan on stopping.’
He thought.
A slight grin spread across his lips as he slowly approached the two. He glanced to the right where the other battle was ongoing.
Izanagi Flourn was trying to keep his own against them and was doing a good job. The awakeneds weren’t fighting at their full destructive potential, they’re efforts were geared towards making a path for the civilians to get out safely.
And the young man understood that.
They were speaking, the fight had not started yet.
The people on his side however had no time for something that trivial.
"Oh well, I wanted to resort this peacefully but you forced my hand."
Then he added the next part silently.
"Don’t blame me for your deaths, blame yourselves for your own incompetence."
Earth.
Both used fire magic, sending out their own individual shots of concentrated balls of flame.
The fireballs weren’t normal, they weren’t the usual orange flames.
These ones were blue.
’Quick Evasive Steps.’
Even to the eyes of his opponents he vanished from his position, with their eyes they couldn’t see him.
The fireballs crackled intensely, their forms diminishing at a lightning pace. Soon they just vanished, just like Jason they were gone.
One of the awakeneds felt something in front of him, something that could be described as a strong gust of wind, something that formed when a body stopped suddenly without slowing down.
He saw it.
Jason was right in front of him at his eye-level, both stared at each other for a split-second.
Then, his hand grabbed the man’s skull.
It happened quickly, in the blink of an eye.
For the man, he felt his feet leave the floor.
A mini crater formed as Jason smashed the man’s head into the ground.
But he was gone again. His form was too fast for his other assailant to keep track off.
