Chapter 163: C.A Meeting
Chapter 163: C.A Meeting
....Inside The A Dungeon
The Civilian Association (C.A) Headquarters
The walls of the large building weren’t normal. Each of its four walls were made of reinforced titanium reinforced with mana.
To break into such a building it would require a large amount of firepower, firepower that not even a rank 0 awakened could muster.
It only had about ten floors, but each of the floors were so wide and large that it made sense. For a non-awakened to climb it would take an incredibly long amount of time.
This place was designed so that even if it was compromised the assailants would take a long time before reaching a single floor, and by then they would be tired.
It would allow the various rank 0’s present in the building to quickly dispatch them.
Most times, the various rank 0 awakeneds in the association headquarters would either be out or in other floors of the headquarters. But now, they all gathered at a round steel table on the final floor.
They were a unison of old and young people of all genders.
Each of these people were all rank 0s.
"What are you waiting for? Start already."
A young man said impatiently, his finger tapping on the steel table as a sign of impatience.
He looked young but he was well over his thirties now.
"I agree with him, doesn’t he think we have things to do?"
The woman next to him nodded in agreement.
"I wasn’t talking to you."
His expression darkened.
"Shut up!"
He barked at her.
"You shut up, you ingrate!"
She retorted.
The young man got out of his chair angrily.
"Just shut the hell up!"
He yelled.
The woman got out of her chair as well.
"Only if you shut up first!"
The both of them continued with their bickering endlessly. They were both completely oblivious to the two people who sat between them.
Suddenly, a powerful presence descended on the room.
Someone who was far stronger than everyone present.
"Ah, young love. A beautiful thing, isn’t it?"
The man wore a loose white robe adorned with a unique pattern on it. His white hair went to his neck, his face showing signs of old age and a short beard.
But even that did little to hide the aura he emanated.
"It’s not young love!"
Both of them retorted at the same time.
However, the old man did not mind their words.
"Of course."
He walked forward, the sound of his shoe against the floor resounding in the air.
Finally, he took his seat.
He was the reason the meeting between the twelve rank 0 awakeneds had not begun earlier. It was only right if the most important person was the last to arrive.
"Now that we are all present, the meeting shall begin."
The man gestured to a woman at his right.
"The streets are filled with clan members. They range from one hundred to a hundred and fifty."
The woman had a sensory skill.
She could easily detect the amount of clan members outside the building and under normal circumstances it would have been easy to deal with them.
Unfortunately, they were holding the civilians captive.
They weren’t leaving, and more kept coming to join.
"And they’re holding the civilians in the area as hostages to prevent us from firing at them from a distance."
Her words hung in the air as the others processed her words. A harsh wake-up call to the cruel acts of the clan.
"Hostages?!"
The young man got up again.
His voice oozed with venom.
"You’re telling me those damn scumbags did that? That they’re using our people as bargaining chips!"
He spat.
"It isn’t only the clans."
The woman took a deep breath before explaining.
"All the fugitives that have managed to infiltrate the settlement, both former civilians and clansmen alike, all of them are forming a counterattack against us.
The clans wouldn’t be able to break down the barrier unless they brought a handful of rank 0 awakeneds, which is something they have never done since the war began."
He slammed his hand into the steel table, the thud resounded, echoing off the reinforced steel walls.
"So you mean those bastard fugitives are doing this?"
He thundered.
In his element, this man was unrestrained.
"Calm down."
The person who spoke was the person he was arguing with before the meeting started.
"Don’t tell me what to do, Amelia."
His rage was directed at anything and any person.
"We aren’t here to shout and scream at the injustice of the world, we’re here to deal with the intruders."
The young man shuddered at the words before begrudgingly taking his seat.
"Why don’t we send some our rank 1 awakeneds to deal with them?"
A woman asked.
"Most of our awakeneds are dealing with the dungeon outbreaks that appeared all over the settlement, we don’t have enough manpower to deal with it.
Only our rank 3s and 4s are left."
The sensor woman explained.
"But I thought th-"
"We weren’t expecting an attack by the clans now, before they struck again it would take a few weeks at most and by then the dungeons would have already been cleared."
The woman stopped arguing.
"So what are we going to do about it? We can’t just leave our people there in their hands."
"We aren’t going to."
The old man was the one to take over from here, his voice booming with authority.
"There is one rank 0 awakened in their midst while the others mostly comprise of rank 1s and 2s. To deal with this normally only one of us would be needed.
To deal with the rank 1 and 2 awakeneds a force of two close range combatants and long range specialists are required."
He pointed at a man.
"You will be the leader of the strike force. Your team’s job is to make sure the civilians escape safely."
He then pointed out three others, assigning them to the strike force.
"And the two of you."
"Amelia, and you, young man."
The young man’s expression turned worse as he was called.
"I have a name."
"I know."
The old man responded.
"Both of you will deal with the rank 0 awakened. I believe that it will be good experience for both of you."
The young man glared at Amelia, prompting the woman to glare at him as well.
"The others will stay on standby and will only help when need be."
The old man stood up from his chair.
"Sir!"
Someone called out.
The man turned.
"What is it?"
"You’ve thought about everything except..."
He paused, as if struggling to find the right words.
"Everything except what?"
The old man was suddenly interested.
"The fugitives that recently arrived in the settlement, among them is the Rogue civilian, the Unknown darkness, and the unknown Hachiman with blue eyes.
And they were also said to have been accompanied by two others."
The old man’s eyes widened.
He remembered it now.
"I forgot about it?"
It was more of a question than a realization, though there was no denying that the old man had forgotten about the fugitives.
Maybe it was because they had not been seen in a while.
"Both of you."
He pointed at an old woman and an old woman.
"Join the team assigned to the rank 0, but don’t engage until the other fugitives arrive."
There was currently only one known fugitive in the vicinity at rank 0, their sensor only detected one rank 0 so it was clear that there was only one.
Until the other rank 0 fugitives arrived, the other sensors would stay on standby and preserve their strength.
The old man turned away, the sound of his feet against the floor resounding.
As soon as he left the other awakeneds, particularly the ones that were not assigned to the fight, stood up and left as well.
"Who’s in charge between two of us?"
Amelia asked.
It was supposed to be a two-man team before but now they had an additional two people, even if they were on standby they were still part of their team.
"Me."
The young man answered.
"What the hell? It’s obviously me, there is no way anyone would trust you with that kind of job."
’Young love indeed.’
An old man thought as he left the room, a slight smile on his face.
He didn’t know what was going to happen next.
