Chapter 162: It (5)
Chapter 162: It (5)
...Two Days Later
"Jason."
Lyra said.
The person in question turned his head towards her, not surprised by her sudden appearance in the least.
"You have a visitor."
’Finally.’
These two days had been monotonous and boring, they spent all of their time in the outskirts of the settlement to avoid the guard.
Their only source of food was when Kira went into town with Lyra to get food.
All this while they had been waiting for Flourn’s messenger, they had been waiting for Flourn to give the signal for the minor breakout.
He got off the unfinished wall he sat down on and made his way through the outskirts with Lyra’s help.
"Don’t attack him, he’s a guard but not one to fight."
With those words she was gone, leaving Jason to nod to no one.
The route from hereon was straightforward and soon he found he person he was looking for.
A short man wearing the guard’s uniform with the initials CA on the side, under it was the symbol of the association.
The man was ordinary, he was certainly not a member of a clan.
"He requests your presence, IT has instructed you to meet at the CA building in some hours."
With those words the man turned away.
"Is that all?"
Jason called out.
"Yes, in four hours you should be positioned at the perimeter of the CA."
The man turned away and continued walking.
’Four hours? How would I know when four hours pass?’
But those were his own problems, he couldn’t voice out his complaints to anyone.
He watched as the man walked away stealthily, making sure to erase his traps to avoid being traced back here.
’Since this is really Flourn’s messenger I have to get back into the place, specifically the CA association headquarters.’
Returning back would mean trouble, so he was sure that some awakeners had gone into a dungeon.
It was at these times that minor breakouts happened, when at least even a quarter of the settlement’s awakeneds were gone.
He was sure that this was the situation.
He turned back and began walking in the opposite direction.
"Asahi."
"What?"
"Tell Kira that I went to the Civilian Association and he should come looking for me."
"Where are you going?"
"Also, when he goes make sure that you follow him, and maybe let Sean tag along with you, maybe not."
Asahi couldn’t keep up with his words as Jason was ignoring him.
"No, where are you going?"
"I’m going to the Civilian Association, if you want to know the rest of the details ask Kira."
With those words he left, ignoring Asahi’s numerous questions.
There was no way to get to that building in four hours, Jason knew that from experience. It had taken him a day to reach the outskirts, proving how large the town is.
So he planned to leave now, at least he would arrive in 6 hours if he hurried.
Jason didn’t have to avoid anybody this time, the guards that were positioned at the entrance of the place were nowhere to be found.
He suspected that the guard that had informed him had something to do with the matter.
Jason ran, his form a blur to any passerby before leaping onto the rooftop.
Then, he began expertly leaping from rooftop to rooftop.
’Strange, there are normally more guards in these places.’
...Five Hours Later
Finally, he stopped a good distance away from the CA building.
One thing he had noticed while traveling was that there were no guards around, the area was deserted in terms of guards, filled with only civilians.
It was strange, to be honest.
Quite strange.
’At least I still arrived.’
Though, he doubted he arrived in four hours.
If he had to guess he would say maybe six or six and a half hours late.
Jason jumped down from the building and instantly began running. His movements were a blur to the civilians before he finally stopped.
"Flourn?"
He questioned as he stopped.
The man stopped in his tracks and turned his head in his direction.
It was an expression that was devoid of emotions, almost like looking at a being that couldn’t care less about the world.
"You’re finally here."
The person in front of him was the person Jason was looking for was here in front of him.
Suddenly, Flourn leaped into the air, landing easily on a slanted rooftop.
Jason followed after him, their feats garnering the attention of the civilians.
But since Flourn paid no mind to them Jason decided to do the same.
"You came early."
"Early?"
He was sure that he came a lot later than four hours, yet this guy still said that he came early.
’Maybe that man was lying about the time.’
It seemed most likely at this point.
"I did say you should come at four hours, however, considering the distance between the CA and the outskirts I could tell that it would take you six hours to come here if you hurried and five if you moved at a constant pace.
So, I gave you the wrong time so that you would arrive earlier than anticipated."
Flourn explained.
The young man’s eyes darted around, as if he was trying to see something.
’He’s...’
Jason didn’t expect this kind of answer.
’He’s good.’
The amount of thought that had been put into it wasn’t a joke, the person in front of him was indeed calculative.
’Now, its time for the breakout.’
Jason cracked his neck.
Getting into a settlement was quite different from leaving the settlement, especially for big ones.
Settlements welcomed fugitives into their settlement’s and tried to capture them for information or at least kill them, entering them was a breeze as they were quite welcoming.
But leaving them was a matter on its own, that was all thanks to pacts.
Pacts were vows that were bound the people involved tightly, for mutual benefits restrictions were placed, and the punishment for breaking the agreement was costly.
A guard, no matter how much you forced them would never open the veil for you to go through, they only opened it for fugitives to enter.
There were only two ways to leave a settlement; one was to kill the other party who invoked the pact, and the second was to force a settlement leader or mayor to open it.
To Jason, option 2 was the best.
It was the best way to make himself known.
"The CA hasn’t noticed the amount of clan members now, but they’ll soon figure it out. Before they figure it out we’ll launch an attack on them, leaving them with little time to react now that most of their personnel are in the dungeons."
"Dungeons."
Jason repeated.
The minor breakout was thoroughly planned out, leaving the CA with little time to react.
Flourn ignored his words and looked upwards, taking in a deep breath.
"I take it that he will soon arrive?"
He questioned.
"Kira? Yes, he’s coming."
"Good. Since the opponent this time is the Civilian Association, the organization responsible for the civilian clan war is here, it would be best if we had all the manpower he could get. Hasn’t he already reached his potential now?"
Flourn asked as he gazed at the sky, the blinding artificial light did little to stop him and he continued staring.
"Potential?"
He knew what he was talking about but chose to play dumb.
"Yes, potential."
Flourn asserted before continuing.
"He’s at rank 0 now, isn’t he?"
’He knows.’
"Yes, he’s at rank 0."
"What about Sean?"
Jason looked up, searching for any trace of an emotion, if his face was actually betraying his emotions.
However, he saw nothing.
"About rank 3 or 2 by now?"
"Good, he’ll soon reach his potential."
"Potential, what do you mean by that?"
’Isn’t Sean’s potential rank 0.’
That was what he always believed, since Kira was rank 0 and his brother whom was also able to survive in the same kind of environment as he would also be rank 0, or at least have rank 0 potential.
"Is that what you think?"
Izanagi Flourn dropped his gaze, now staring directly at Jason.
"If so I’m sorry to disappoint you, his potential is rank 1."
"Rank 1."
Jason repeated.
That was a fact Jason didn’t know about, while rank 1 was inherently good, in the grand scheme of things it was average at best.
Awakening a rank 1 talent; a stage in your growth where you would cap at, where no amount of training would ever help you break past your limits no matter how hard you try was a little hard to believe.
But in the end it was still believable.
That was because rank 0 had no limit, but all the other ranks below it did.
’So the kid will soon reach his peak.’
That wasn’t a nice thought.
Sean was impulsive and easy to anger but he was a good kid, there was no denying that.
"Oh..."
Flourn turned away from Jason, facing the large building with the words CA on it.
"Nostalgia, because of that I almost forgot the time..."
"Jason Hachiman, right? I believe that it’s time for us to break out."
The minor breaking was about to begin.
