Chapter 160: It (3)

The pale light of the day spilled over some of the slanted roofs and the alleyways in the settlement.

It was a quiet morning, and people were out late, any experienced person could tell that this wasn’t a sign of a good morning.

For Jason, these kind of mornings weren’t good.

They didn’t bring nice promises, it was much more reassuring to fight monsters in the morning than deal with a calm morning.

His breath was shallow, coming in short bursts.

He had been moving since nightfall, not even stopping to rest once.

His body did ache from the continuous hours of non-stop evasion of evasion and movement.

Jason had not slept throughout the night, and sleep was an activity that he was good at.

Currently, he laid on an uncompleted brick wall and surrounded by trash.

The outskirts of such a large settlement turned out to serve as a dump.

’I feel like shit.’

He glanced around him.

’But I guess that’s because I’m surrounded by it.’

Everything from bottles to recyclables could he found in here, and each one had a foul stench to them and it all combined.

His eyes were droopy, threatening to close and never open at any second.

Unfortunately the mind couldn’t be at rest because of the odor.

He was left in a state between being asleep and awake.

Jason’s eyes suddenly opened.

’Someone is here.’

He thought, glancing around wearily.

He didn’t bother getting up.

’Probably Kira.’

His thoughts were true.

Kira was the first to appear, his shadow gave him away.

Soon he came into view.

Next was Asahi and Sean, both of them walked side-by-side.

And Lyra was suddenly there, next to Kira, but Jason didn’t give it much thought.

He closed his eyes.

"So all of you are finally here? I’ve been waiting for awhile."

Jason said, his tone calm and his eyes closed.

"And you’re late."

He added.

Kira didn’t reply immediately. He studied Jason for a moment.

"You didn’t sleep."

He finally said.

"And I can’t sleep now due to the stench, so we should be quick about this."

Kira didn’t reply.

"Couldn’t you find a place?"

"I tried but some guards found me so I had to continue."

He answered.

"Oh."

He seemed to understand Jason’s condition. For someone who liked to sleep Jason didn’t seem to be the kind of person that would try to skip it.

"And I also saw someone, so I was restless and wanted to get to the outskirts as soon as possible."

Kira raised his eyebrows at Jason’s words, he couldn’t understand at why Jason would run quickly, unless that person was a good sensor,

And even then if he was caught Jason was the kind of person that would just kill the person who found him to solve the problem.

"Who is that?"

He questioned.

"You know him."

His words made Kira’s interests increase even more.

Kira didn’t know a lot of people, most of the people he knew were all dead.

That just made his curiosity levels rise even higher.

"I knew a lot of people."

"This one is still alive, I met him today and he’s doing pretty well."

"Who is that?"

"He knows your name."

"And who is that?"

The boy’s patience was running thin and Jason realized that.

Jason let out a sight as he realized he couldn’t continue talking in riddles.

"You may know him as Izanagi Flourn."

He finally answered.

At the sound of that name, Kira’s expression shifted.

His lips tightened, and his posture changed slightly.

Sean’s gaze flickered towards Jason and then back at Kira.

Asahi didn’t seem to understand what they were talking about.

And Lyra remained expressionless, her face not showing warmth nor cold, completely devoid of emotion.

"How...? How do you know the name of the dead?"

He questioned, his tone laced with disbelief.

Izanagi Flourn, that was the name of someone...

"Because he’s not dead, its as simple as that."

Jason replied without opening his eyes.

"Where did you meet him?"

Kira asked.

Suddenly, he was standing in front of Jason.

"It would be somewhere around a day’s journey from here in a house situated in a place where there are no houses, only buildings.

I was almost caught by the guards but one of his men saved me and brought me in to talk to him."

"His men?"

Kira’s brain processed the information at a lightning pace.

"He’s a corrupted human?"

His words didn’t seem like a question, however his tone suggested that it was.

"He isn’t."

Jason asserted.

He had seen his fair share of corrupted humans, he knew how they looked like, smelled like, and how things felt around them.

For Izanagi Flourn it wasn’t like this.

"How do you know that? He’s a corrupted human."

"Kira."

Jason opened his eyes as he said the words.

"I know a corrupted human when I see one, plus, he’s an Izanagi.

His clan’s main technique is to create another body of himself as long as he has sufficient mana."

After saying those words he closed his eyes.

"How do you know that?"

"Because I know an Izanagi, I’ve seen them use it before."

’In the novel at least.’

It all depended on how vivid his imagination was back then, and it was really vivid.

Kira finally stopped arguing.

"So he’s still alive."

He chuckled before falling onto his butt, not minding the objects sprawled around.

"Does he want to kill me?"

Kira questioned.

"He doesn’t, he only wants my cooperation."

Jason answered.

"Is that so, huh?"

Kira chuckled once again.

"How does he look like?"

Jason tried to create a mental image of the young man in his head.

"Long black hair and dead eyes."

Jason described his most notable features.

"Dead eyes?"

Kira repeated.

"Dead eyes."

Jason asserted.

"And he told me something about what you did to him."

Jason hit his head lightly against the wall, an attempt to stay awake.

"What I did?"

Kira repeated again.

He knew about what he had done.

And to be fair, he didn’t regret anything.

"He said he doesn’t blame you for what you did..."

Jason paused, letting his words sink in.

"He doesn’t?"

Kira questioned.

Suddenly, the wind blew.

"He says that if he was you he would have made sure that the job was done, properly that is."

Jason finished, his voice steady.

They aren’t the only ones here, that there were other people listening.

They seemed to forget all of that, only focusing on what mattered the most.

"Is that so?"

This was the third time Kira had said that word in the past ten minutes, yet he didn’t notice it.

"He would have done a better job? Is that so?!"

He laughed out loud.

Not a tear graced his face, though he had a bittered expression on his face.

Jason opened his eyes and watched him for a brief moment before closing them.

’Flourn seems to be important.’

The young man was something like a puzzle, one that had too many pieces to finish it all in one day or even a week.

But the allure of the Izanagi was too tempting to pass by, it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, he was specially sure of that because the Izanagi clan was gone.

If he passed on the opportunity he could only have himself to blame if he suddenly died one day in a world where even the main characters died.

"Izanagi Flourn isn’t a nice person, but if I remember well he keeps to his words. What did you agree to?"

Kira asked.

Jason answered without raising his eyes.

"Assist in a minor breakout."

"A minor breakout? Is he planning to escape from this place?"

"Seems like it."

"When did he say he was going to do it? Did he tell you when and where?"

"He didn’t. He only said he would inform me when its time, frankly I don’t know how he’ll find me.."

"And you agreed?"

"It wasn’t up for negotiations, he could have exposed my existence if I didn’t do it.

And the Civilian Association already know that we’re in the city, if he exposes my location, even if I manage to escape they’ll still have a general direction of where I am."

"Okay."

Jason raised his eyebrows lazily.

"Tell me about Izanagi Flourn."

"Why do you want to know about him?"

"Because I made a deal with him, we agreed that he would fight me when we break out."

Jason watched Kira’s reaction.

"Why would you do something like that?"

Jason didn’t answer, instead he paused and closed his eyes again.

"He said that there are about a dozen awakeneds in the city."

After awhile he finally said something, his tone dreary.

He was laying between a state of sleep and being awake.

"A dozen?"

Kira questioned.

Jason thought over his words.

"I mean half of a dozen."

He corrected himself.

"Half?"

He asked.

Jason nodded.

"Then doesn’t that mean that the forces in this city will be harder to avoid than usual, so if we attempt the minor breakout that would mean there’s a good chance it would fail."

Jason did not hear his words.

He was asleep.
