Chapter 157: Minor Breakout (4)
Jason jumped, his feet leaving the ground silently and landing onto the flat roof of a building silently.
As he continued running, footsteps were left. Blood-red footsteps.
It was a trail, a trail of blood that would lead people to where he was going if it was ever found.
But Jason didn’t realize that, he didn’t know that he had stepped in someone’s blood.
His mind was somewhere else.
’That’s the fifth one that found me.’
He thought.
Unfortunately, there were some awakeneds who had managed to see him and had silently tailed him. He of course decreased his speed upon noticing them so as not to alert normal people and led his pursuers to an alleyway, all of that before disposing of them.
’I’m unlucky enough as it is, If my luck gets worse one of them will actually call to inform them about my location instead of confirming if its me.’
’Someone might actually have the brains for that.’
When they were tailing him they didn’t bother to use their communication treasure, the reason was that they were trying to confirm that it was really the person they were after.
He leaped onto the next roof silently, slowly but surely moving away from the large CA building.
He had a bad feeling about that place, as if there were strong people residing there.
For now, he found it best not to do anything irrational. Their only goal was supposed to be leaving this settlement as soon as possible to get to the Hachiman main clan building.
’There should be...’
Jason paused his train of thought.
For a brief moment, the eyes of a man on a rooftop some roofs away from his and his own eyes met.
He blinked.
One moment he was there, and the other he wasn’t.
The brief afterimage vanished quickly as well, as if it was trying to leave as soon as possible.
The guard, a good distance away, eye’s narrowed. He quickly wiped his eyes with his hands to make sure he wasn’t seeing this.
A cloaked individual on a rooftop, one moment he was there and the other he wasn’t.
The guard had thought that the fellow was one of the other guards instructed to watch the rooftops, that was why he did nothing before.
But now, as their eyes met, he vanished.
Something wasn’t right.
That person he saw wasn’t a guard, if they were a guard they wouldn’t have left so suddenly.
"Where did they go?"
Quickly, he got into action, jumping down from the roof and inspecting the other side of the road.
The well paved streets and the people were there, but not the person he was looking for.
He walked slowly, moving towards the building where he had seen the figure last.
"He’s not here..."
He said to himself.
The only building that the figure could have entered without causing a commotion was the only house in the street, at least he would look like a guest there.
The guard moved slowly in the direction of the house, his hand came on the doorknob before stopping.
"These is awakened property, for two rank 1s."
He stopped himself before he was too late and began to walk away.
"No normal awakened would be able to come in here without causing a commotion, that too without dying."
He laughed to himself.
"I must be imagining things."
With a chuckle he returned to his post.
From behind that very door Jason let out a deep breath, he was afraid that he would have had to kill that guard in the open space.
Suddenly, he turned colder as he glanced at the very person who had opened the door.
"Who are you?"
He questioned.
Now that he had dealt with one variable it was time for another.
"I’m from the Amaterasu clan."
The man proceeded to take off the brown robe on his head.
Jason paused for a brief moment, observing the man from head to toe.
"He has the hair and eyes."
Those were his only ways of identifying a member of the Amaterasu clan, the orange eyes and the hair.
And according to what he knew, the man fitted the part from head to toe.
"And you must be the Unknown Darkness."
Jason didn’t even need to introduce himself, he was famous.
"I am."
He asserted.
"How many are you all in here?"
He questioned.
He had no interest in small talk.
The man was unfazed by his words.
"We’re about fifty here, along with our leader."
"Our leader wants to speak to you."
He continued.
Jason raised an eyebrow at his questioning.
"How did he know that I’m here?"
It was the same person that had let him in that was here currently, he had seen no other person in this large building.
"He has his ways...
Because we need to evade the guards we have men that scout 24/7, we just happened to see you passing by and wanted to discreetly call you, however, you happened to meet us first."
Jason nodded.
The explanation seemed sincere, and it also seemed to be true; as clan members they needed to avoid the guards and people 24/7, so they needed to have their ways.
"Why does your leader want to see you?"
He questioned.
"He has something he wants to ask from you."
Jason nodded.
’If its a trap I’ll kill them.’
"Lead the way."
Jason began walking, and the Amaterasu clan member began walking after him.
’Clan members, they can’t be trusted.’
They had some experience with clan members a while back, and each meeting led to the clan members being tortured for information before being discarded.
That being said he was still interested in what they were talking about as Kira had told him about some clan members he had in the past, though most of them were dead.
It reminded him of Grey.
"What are all of you doing here?"
He questioned.
The man turned to him, and for the first time he saw surprise.
"You have blue eyes, don’t you?"
He asked even though it was obvious.
"Yes."
"Didn’t a clan send you to this place to gather information?"
He asked.
"No."
The man composed himself quickly, his expression receding back into that of calm.
"Our clans sent us to this civilian settlement, this is where the base of the CA is and also the home of the only rank 0 civilian awakeneds.
We were sent to gather information from out respective clans, however, we have been unable to leave because of this place’s security.
Because of that, we banded together despite our differences and currently we’re working on a plan for escaping."
Jason nodded, the new information he received was quite useful.
"So where do I fit in this picture?"
He questioned, though he could already tell his part.
At his words the man seemed to realize his slip-up.
He could only concede the information right now.
"Our leader wants to ask for your help in the fight."
’I already realized that.’
They turned down a wide hallway and walked down it, the sound of bare foot against the ground was the only thing he heard they continued in silence until they reached the door.
"He’s waiting for you inside the room."
Jason nodded, and without hesitation he entered the room, twisting the doorknob to reveal a typical room.
Except this one was empty, save for the large table and chair that were positioned at the far end of the room.
Sitting on one of the two chairs was a man, Jason could tell that he was young, but he had a look that seemed to have seen everything.
Disheveled long hair, except his hair wasn’t spiky. It was long, going to his lower body.
"Come."
He said.
His tone was nonchalant, as if the weight of the situation had no effect on him, as if the situation wasn’t even important.
Jason was weary as soon as he saw him.
’This guy.’
Slowly, he walked towards the adjacent chair and sat down on it.
"You’re the unknown darkness, aren’t you?"
He said.
"I am."
He answered.
"Also a Hachiman, aren’t you?"
He wasn’t asking, he was stating the facts.
And Jason was taken aback from how much he knew.
There was no knowing smirk on his face, no sign to show how certain he was of his information. It was like he knew it.
"Am I?"
Jason tried to sound mysterious.
However, the next words made him realize that this guy didn’t have an average brain.
"I know a Hachiman when I see when, even if they’re hair is different or their different from normal."
The man said, his tone emotionless.
"Are you so sure?"
"Your eyes... Your eyes give everything away, if you were trying not to seem like one you should change your eyes.
Not only that, but you have the special eyes of your clan, something that is rare even among its more gifted members."
Jason tried to remain nonchalant about the issue.
"And you’re strength as well, you are stronger than the other Hachiman I met and fought, not only that but mana becomes harder to use around you."
He stated his observations blandly, however those were things one wouldn’t know unless they fought or tried to fight him.
"Since you already know my identity why don’t you tell me yours?"
Jason questioned.
Being on the receiving end wasn’t a nice feeling for him.
The man didn’t show a smirk, neither did he frown.
He leaned closer to the table and extended an arm.
"I’m Flourn... Izanagi Flourn."
He introduced.
"And, I want to cause a minor breakout in this place."
