Talent System: I Instantly Master My Opponents Skills
Chapter 156: Minor Breakout (3)

Chapter 156: Minor Breakout (3)

In the end, it was only Asahi who lost his hair. He should have been thankful that Kira had made sure his hair had stayed spiky when he cut it off.

If not he would have definitely been unrecognizable as his spiky hair was a major part of his look.

Jason, on the other hand, didn’t even bother to cut his hair. Neither did the others for that matter.

They passed by the several corpses on the ground, and the snow that had been dyed with the blood of several dead bodies.

The corpses were ignored as all of them made their way through, eventually stopping next to the veil.

There was a guard present there.

A woman with short black hair, accompanied with sharp eyes.

She wore a gray uniform, one that had a weird star shaped symbol at its sides. Jason did not recognize it, and he found himself staring at the insignia for a fraction of a second too long through the veil.

However, he quickly regained himself and refocused.

’I’ve never seen that before.’

None of the other settlement guards had such a thing, neither did they have this uniform. According to what he had seen, it differed from the settlements.

But in this kind of situation, it only made him unsettled, even if only for a minute.

The woman stared at them for a whole minute unblinking, then, her expression showed fear.

Quickly, she brought a treasure out of her uniform.

’Communication treasure.’

Jason thought as he watched.

Something interesting he had noticed was that the veil was soundproof.

He could see her lips moving through the seemingly paper-thin walls of the veil, yet he heard no sound.

This was a new feature, one he hadn’t seen in all the other veils.

Not even a minute passed before the woman finished her conversation on the communication treasure, nodding briefly to no one in particular before storing it back in her suit.

Her demeanor noticeably changed, her expression shifting into one of kindness as she stepped back, working on the veil.

"Welcome, travelers. You must be wary from your long travels."

She said, finally opening a hole in the veil.

It was a medium sized hole but ti was wide enough for all to pass through.

But despite her kind words none of them moved, in fact, her words acted as a deterrent to them.

’Her acting skills are five stars.’

Jason reacted dryly in his thoughts as he watched her.

He was about to put a leg forward, however he chose not to.

Kira moved forward, putting one leg in front of the other in a rhythmic motion.

"We were hoping that we could stay for the night in your settlement before moving on."

He said.

He knew that she was baiting him, that she wanted him to enter there so they could ambush him.

"Is that-"

She stopped herself, a wind blade soaring right at her arm.

It had happened before she could even tell that he was charging up to use magic.

She reacted as fast as she could, shifting her body to the left to dodge despite her positioning.

The wind blade cut through the air like a scythe, its form composed of both compressed wind and mana.

It almost hit her.

But fortunately for her, it only grazed her. She fell to the ground as she dodged.

But instead of feeling anything, it seemed like something broke her fall. Something soft with bone-like things was there to break her fall.

She tried to get up, but that was when it occurred to her.

Pain.

There were times in life when one could get injured yet they wouldn’t realize that they were actually injured until a short delay period was over or they realized that they were injured themselves.

Until you registered the damage, you couldn’t feel it.

That was the case for the woman.

Her left arm was gone, she had practically gotten it sliced off with her movement. It was something Kira predicted, and hence, allowed her play into the trap.

’This again.’

Jason was watching from behind and wasn’t there when the same thing had happened to Asahi a few minutes back.

’Just because he remodeled this use of wind magic.’

Jason thought.

He was the first and only person Kira informed about this.

He refocused on Kira.

The boy had no change in expressions as he watched the woman get off the ground.

In a moment, her head fell onto the ground.

What Kira was using was just a basic application of Wind magic; however, he had sharpened his magic skills over time, refining it, always making sure it would be better in the next fight.

What went from a basic wind slash or wind scythe that would require a weapon to even begin to do real damage, in his hands now became a simple, easy-to-use wind slash that could cut heads off easily.

’He’s killed her.’

Now that the woman was dead, he was going to go along with his original idea.

Stepping into the veil and killing every single one of the other reinforcements present.

’Quick Evasive Steps.’

In a flash, Jason vanished, not even an afterimage remaining in his place.

His katana appeared in his grasp.

The world around him didn’t slow down, rather, it was the people.

They all moved slower than usual.

He darted inside the veil, stepping past the corpse on the ground.

The other guards; the reinforcements, were particularly simple to find.

He moved towards the one closest to him, his weapon moving alongside as if it was his only companion.

Then, he swung it.

It was too fluent, too fast for the naked eye to see. A blur of motion.

He moved past the body before the head could even fall from the body, weaving across the ground masterfully.

The second one was cut at his midsection, splitting his body into two separate halves.

One by one, all of them were taken down...

Easily, too easily.

Finally, at the last head was separated, the people returned to their normal speed.

The guards who had been watching as their leader got taken out easily by wind blades fell onto the ground.

The first guard was about to do something about the intruders when his head slid off his neck, falling onto the ground perfectly.

The other guard whom was frozen with fear suddenly split into two halves.

One by one, all of the guards fell onto the ground, dead.

Jason sliced through the air in a clean arc before stopping his swing mid-way.

The scarlet red blood that had stained the katana fell onto the ground. Jason seeing this finally kept it back in his space ring.

His eyes scanned around next.

’I can’t lose another eye, at least not here.’

Losing his eyes was his favorite nightmare, favorite nightmare in the way that he had lost them more than once.

First time, he had underestimated his opponent. It was a valuable lesson to him and he never underestimated anyone again.

But the second time was a little different.

He was unprepared and hadn’t expected it.

Because of that, he had lost both eyes. Again.

These were his third pair of eyes.

And there was something each of his eyes had something similar.

He only ever lost his eyes during the time when they infiltrated the settlements, not once had he lost them when they were exiting or against monster fights.

"I’m done."

Jason murmured silently to himself.

But, he still took a last sweep at the ground with his eyes, just to make sure he had dealt with all of them.

"I’m done."

He said in a much louder voice, turning his face in their direction.

He refocused on the sight in front of him.

’Now, all that’s left to do is to check.’

He thought, moving in the direction of one of the corpses.

He crouched low and brought his hands forwards.

Jason checked the man for any ID.

It wasn’t long before he found what he was looking for.

Name: Ken

Next to the name tag there was a picture of the formal picture of the man.

’An ID tag or what?’

Jason thought as he skimmed through the irrelevant bits.

’Civilian Association. CA.’

He thought back, trying to recall anytime he had heard that name.

’I think I heard it from the mouth of one of the settlement mayors.’

He could remember it.

The man had murmured the CA, but back then he hadn’t paid any attention.

Slowly, he got up as they arrived.

’We’ll need to move quickly.’

"Let’s go, it won’t be long before they send people after us."

Kira said.

In an instant, they all blinked, their bodies being replaced by a brief afterimage.

’We barely missed them.’

Jason thought, a brown shawl covering him as he ran on rooftops.

’But at least I got this.’

It would have been less suspicious if he walked on the ground, however, he knew that it would draw attention to him as he was easily noticeable in the crowd.

The best option was obviously to run on rooftops, even if the people could see a blur of his movements as he ran.

Without a word they had split up, that was because they already knew where they would meet.

The outskirts was normally unprotected and without guards. However, on high alert there were guards present. That was one of the reasons they met up there, so they could decrease the amount without alerting anyone.

As he ran, Jason squinted his eyes as he noticed something strange.

’What the hell?’

He thought, narrowing his eyes, thinking he wasn’t seeing properly.

A large building in the far distance. The building wasn’t like the other ones, it was different.

And large.

’CA’

There was also the words: CA written boldly in red with it, along with that weird insignia that he had seen on that guard.

’This place isn’t the average settlement.’

That was a realization that wasn’t too hard to get to.
