Chapter 152: Caught (3)

10 seconds barely passed, yet the man was already on the ground, he had been subdued by Jason in a flash.

"Sorry, my bad, you might really be a fool."

Jason said as he pressured the man’s arm.

Mistakenly, he dislocated the man’s arm. He ignored the helpless man’s scream in pain and dropped the limb to the ground.

He got off the other hand and bent down, he picked it up and dragged it upwards again. All the while, the man was left with his head facing the ground and his bottom half sticking up.

He screamed out in pain and begged the person to stop, however his pleas fell on deaf ears.

Jason viciously twisted the limb.

"How did you find him?"

Jason questioned.

The man paused for a moment, as if thinking of whether to answer the question that had been posed.

Seeing that there was no response, Jason twisted the limb.

"Aah, stop."

His words fell on deaf ears.

"How did you find Sean?"

He questioned again.

Jason thought he already knew how Sean was caught; the boy was reckless, often careless in his actions. There was no surprise if he was caught while trying to sneak.

The man was still hesitant on speaking when Jason shifted his other foot on the man’s knees, now applying pressure from both sides.

But even then, he remained silent.

’Are my techniques that bad?’

He wondered.

When he traveled he barely resorted to this, it was either Kira that did it, and the occasional times Asahi did it he was torturing people from clan’s.

He had only tortured someone once when he was by himself, and the person had quickly given him the information he wanted.

But this time seemed to have quite a bit of resilience compared to his other victim.

’Maybe my technique is wrong? Or I’m missing something subtle.’

He mused.

Jason applied pressure to the space ring on his finger, and the dagger appeared in his grasp.

He slowly trailed the tip of the weapon down the man’s only functioning arm, but that too was being held down by him.

He slowly traced a long line through the man’s arms.

"Please stop."

The man begged.

"How did you find out that he was here?"

He questioned again.

But he received no answer and just continued.

Both Sean and Asahi watched from the sidelines until.

"Jason..."

Asahi began, walking over to him.

’Is he going to tell me to stop?’

Jason raised an eyebrow at him, but he still focused on what he was doing.

Now, the burly man had been reduced to a bleeding mess.

"...If you want to torture somebody."

Jason stepped aside for the boy.

"You have to make sure it hurts."

Asahi raised his foot into the air, and then stomped down on the man’s knees.

His feet went through the knee, too easily. It broke through the bones and tendons.

The man let out a scream in pain, but Asahi paid no heed. From the corner of his eyes Jason could make something out on the boy’s lips.

They had turned upwards for a brief moment, before he melted back into nonchalance.

’He was grinning.’

Asahi was enjoying himself, something that certainly didn’t happen when he was torturing the awakeneds from the clan.

At least, that was what Jason was sure of.

"How did you find him?"

Asahi questioned, his tone light.

"Please stop."

The man begged in the middle of his sobs.

"If you don’t answer me, I promise that the next one is going through a place that will definitely hurt."

Asahi threatened, using his free hand to gesture menacingly at a certain part.

The man caught this small gesture.

Only he could imagine how much pain it would bring.

"Please..."

He begged.

"It’s your decision."

Asahi slowly dropped the man’s head onto the ground before raising his leg into the air.

"Do you want to talk?"

He questioned.

"Please... Please stop!"

"It’s your decision."

The man’s exhibited through fear.

"I received a transmission."

The man finally admitted.

At those words he finally burst, large droplets of tears dropping down from his eyes.

"Communication treasure?"

Asahi finally asked, dropping his foot from the air and onto the ground.

"Yes, it was a communication treasure."

He admitted.

"We received word from a few surviving civilian awakeneds that the Unknown Darkness and the rogue civilian were present.

I was tasked-"

"Speak faster."

"Tasked with patrolling the area and I found this guy, I could recognize that he was from a clan and-"

Jason interrupted the man.

"You thought that he would fetch a good price even if he didn’t have a bounty on his head, then you found us while you were trying to hide him from the other survivors you found us."

He finished the man’s narration.

"Yes, but-"

He was cut off.

But this time it wasn’t with words.

A wind blade cut him off, literally. It separated his head from his body, the head falling onto the ground.

Asahi let go of the body as a fountain of crimson red blood erupted from the headless corpse.

"You killed him."

"He tried to sell you off to the civilian council."

That was Asahi’s reply.

"We need to get moving."

Jason interrupted them before they could continue their bickering.

"There will soon be others coming when they don’t see this man coming back, and apart from that they also know that we’re here."

He had to break up the argument quickly.

"We either wait for Kira while hiding or we continue."

Sean was the first to speak.

"We continue."

Sean said.

"We should wait."

"I agree with Jason."

Sean looked at both of them, his expression mirroring disbelief.

"He’s not coming out anytime soon."

Sean argued.

Asahi stared at him with an unreadable expression.

"So do you think you won’t be caught again?"

He asked, his tone still light.

"I won’t."

He replied.

Then, Asahi did something unbelievable.

Something that Jason would have never thought the boy would do.

"Sure, knock yourself out."

He turned away and waved a hand at the boy, indicating that he wasn’t interested in Sean’s antics.

Sean looked at him in disbelief for a brief moment, but that was brief, his expression turned into a grin.

"I’ll get to the next settlement by myself."

He said.

With those words he ran away from the group.

Instead of chasing after him, Jason just stared at Asahi whom stood in the sand that mixed with the man’s blood.

"He’s going to get caught."

Jason said.

Asahi turned back to him.

"Of course I know."

Asahi explained, gesturing for Jason to move back a little.

He complied, now standing a few meters away from Asahi.

"And when we save him again he’ll have to use him brain more. You know how he his, he’s probably embarrassed that he had to get saved before so he took off.

He’s going to be a lot more careful, but then again he’ll get caught and we’ll have to save him again. That’s the only time he’ll realize that what he’s doing is dumb."

Asahi said, stroking his non-existent beard with a sagely look on his face.

"You thought of everything."

"Of course."

His grin grew wider.

"Then let’s get going, the sooner we find him the better."

Asahi shook his head.

"We need to wait for awhile so he’ll get caught."

Jason looked at him and nodded in response.

"I meant that we should trail him from behind and watch as he get captured."

"Ah, of course."

Before long, both of them continued.

’He’s better now.’

Jason mused.

Asahi had his trademark smirk plastered on his face as he moved.

’Before he was crying over a dead body, now he’s grinning after torturing a man.’

He couldn’t understand Asahi, he just couldn’t put a finger on the boy.

’Maybe...’

A weird thought suddenly appeared in his mind.

He mulled over it, thinking it through in his mind-scape. It did seem plausible, considering how his behavior changed drastically.

Crying over a dead woman and happily torturing a man, those two in the same time frame.

It was a weird thought of his, considering the circumstances, but it did seem plausible.

’Probably is.’

"Asahi."

Jason began.

The boy turned over to him.

Even as they moved they could still move normally.

"While I didn’t have parents that loved me or anything, I’m like you."

"How?"

The boy questioned, his grin fading.

"I had a sister."

Asahi’s eyebrows shot up.

"An adoptive sister."

He explained.

"You never said anything about her."

"You never asked."

Jason shot back.

Asahi looked at him with interest, the boy’s eyes were practically begging him to continue.

"She’s young, that’s for sure, and a bit shy.

She was trouble at times, and I had to do a lot of things to protect her. But everything I did for her was worth it."

He said.

"How was she last time you saw her?"

The boy noticed that Jason’s expression turned a little sorrowful, he understood what it meant.

"Oh, I’m sorry."

"It’s not your fault, it’s mine."

Asahi’s mood seemed to fall.

"If I had the chance I would do everything the same way as before except one thing..."

"What’s that?"

"I’d make sure she never left me."

Jason answered, before continuing.

"She was a radiant light in the dark road of my life."

He said.

Then, he added one last bit, but only to himself.

’Unfortunately, when the light goes, only darkness remains.’

And the darkness didn’t want to go.
