Chapter 150: Caught (1)

When Jason was done with stabbing the monster in its nape, he realized that it was dead.

Even though he had already deactivated the breathing technique he still had to continue slashing and stabbing into its nape.

’One more.’

That was the only thought in his head as he repeatedly stabbed and slashed at its nape.

It was already dead, however, he just had to keep on stabbing it.

Blood dyed his face, as well as his clothes, and every other part of his body.

And the feral grin on his face didn’t leave.

He looked insane right now.

After a few more stabs and slashes he was done, he dropped the dagger next to him and laid down on the body of the corpse.

Slowly, his breathing returned to normal and the rush of adrenaline that he felt left him.

"This monster was strong."

He murmured to himself.

It was the second strongest of all the monsters he had faced in the A-Dungeon, the strongest monster he had ever faced was at rank 0.

The first rank 0 monster he had ever encountered, and it happened to be a dungeon boss as well.

He had no doubt in his mind that if he faced the monster himself he would have died that day, it was just that powerful.

The A-Dungeon would have killed him months ago, and he hadn’t even faced the boss yet.

Luckily, he had both Kira and Asahi with him.

Three of them managed to kill the monster, with Asahi landing the finishing blow. But they all sustained fatal wounds that day, and Jason had to share his mana potions.

The reason, it was because he didn’t trust Lyra’s healing speed.

From what he had seen, it took her quite a lot of time to heal. And at that time, Asahi could have died without that.

"But it wasn’t strong enough."

He got up from the monster’s corpse and stretched his body.

"The healing is already done."

He could feel it, his body wasn’t aching him anymore, and his ears had been healed as well.

He stretched his body, stretching his arms.

"It’s good."

He said to himself as he turned around.

The first thing he noticed was four other people standing there, watching his every action.

"Oh, so you left."

Jason said as he approached them.

"The other ones weren’t-"

Kira cut his brother off before the boy could finish.

"We realized that the other ones led to nowhere and you were the only one that hadn’t come out."

He explained.

Jason nodded in understanding.

"A door opened when this monster died."

He pointed at the direction of the monster, but it was obscured by its large body.

It wasn’t a door, rather, it was an opening. He had noticed when it suddenly appeared but chose to ignore it, he found stabbing the corpse more satisfying than satiating his curiosity.

"Okay."

Kira replied.

"Do you want to rest?"

He asked.

"No. I’m alright."

He shook his head.

"We better start so we can leave before nightfall."

Jason had to reject his proposal.

"After all, this cave might collapse soon."

Without waiting for anyone, he walked back to the corpse to the monster.

He easily climbed onto it before walking, moving over the blood stained nape of the monster.

From behind him, he could hear their footsteps in the quiet underground cavern. It was clear that they were coming after him.

’They must think I need time to heal because of the blood."

He was feeling sticky all over, his blood and the Orc’s blood covered him from face to foot.

The last thing he wanted to do was wait around, especially because the next settlement they were heading to was one involved in the Civilian-clan war.

Jason was the first one to reach the opening of the underground cave and he peeked through it before proceeding to go through it.

It was a slope going upwards, without hesitation he went through it.

"So, this is where it leads."

He murmured to himself as he stared at a large rock.

The rock blocked the passage.

Without a second thought Jason swung his fist towards the rock, it shattered on impact, breaking into pieces.

He looked down, seeing the others coming and decided to go by himself.

Jason took a step through the rock.\

The world around him blurred, changing into a view of various bright colors, only for it to vanish as quickly as it appeared.

Jason couldn’t see, his eyes were disoriented. But, he was seeing himself, almost like looking in the mirror.

Except, the versions of him he saw didn’t mimic him. They were all individually different.

He couldn’t help but turn serious as he stared through it.

One version of him sat on a rock, clutching a deep wound in his side, one that poured scarlet red blood out endlessly and that wasn’t the worst part, he also had several other wounds on his body. But this was the most pressing of them all.

Another version of him was worse, he had an arrow in his head accompanied with dead black eyes that stared through life itself, along with blood that had already formed a puddle. It was clear that this one was dead.

He rubbed his eye, but it didn’t go away. The headache that accompanied his sudden blimp was minor.

The slight pain in his head paled in comparison to what he was seeing.

Battle-wounded versions of himself, each one seemingly on the verge of death itself.

The cave was black as well, but it also had occasional droplets of blood on its walls along with several pools of blood on its ground.

Finally, he looked his way.

The version of him glanced at his direction, a look of confusion displayed on his face before realization finally hit him, his face going to full on horror.

"HAA....-"

He tried to say something, but his words were drowned out by the blood that poured out of his mouth.

He puked out blood, pouring the liquid on himself.

That version of himself vomited blood, and the life in his eyes faded when he finally died. His black eyes were lifeless, but it seemed that he had finally found peace.

The others present looked at him horrifed, as if they had seen a ghost dying.

One by one, the other versions of himself proceeded to turn towards him, and one by one their faces paled as if they had seen a ghost.

Some whom had been managing to grab onto life finally kicked the bucket there and there, they were unable to handle the sight in front of them.

Jason was borderline confused, and he looked at them.

Finally, he blinked once more.

"What?!"

He said out loud.

The people in front of him weren’t other versions of himself, rather they were awakeneds.

Civilians awakened whom participated in the Civilian-clan war and now suffered from the consequences of their participation, some already dead.

"Civilian awakeneds."

He murmured.

He was checking their stats.

Rank 2s and rank 3s, he guessed that the others were of lower ranks and had already kicked the bucket.

His words sent shivers down their spines.

"I- Is th- at.... h- him?"

One of the awakeneds asked.

He had a long gash running around his abdomen, it was clear he wouldn’t live long.

"Yes..."

The one closest to him said solemnly.

Her eyes had already lost the hope of escaping as she saw the person in front of her.

This person, despite being dark-skinned was renowned, he was quite known.

Also, the sketch of him in the bingo book was quite accurate, with every feature of his; along with his hair, copied to the bone.

"...It’s him."

She asserted her words.

The man coughed out blood, but he still continued.

"The unknown darkness?"

"The unknown darkness."

Jason was known as the unknown darkness, it was a name given to him because they didn’t know his identity.

He had a large bounty on his head, one big enough to make even a rank 1 up for life. But he wasn’t easy to kill.

It was a small settlement mayor that had reported him to the civilian council, but at that time his words weren’t taken seriously, an excuse for the reason of his settlement’s brief take over by rogue awakeneds.

But several others came, each one with the same description of the young man.

And every time he was seen, ??? Hachiman was also seen with him as well. As well as another rogue civilian awakened whom was also unknown.

It wasn’t his feats that had brought him past the middle pages of the bingo book, it was his strange ability.

People like him weren’t supposed to be able to use mana, but he was a breathing example, that was what the civilian council thought.

There were even some rumors that he had used mana on few occasions.

Unlike most bounty’s, the council had ordered that he should be captured alive.

But, how would some nameless awakeneds even think of capturing someone in the bingo books. Someone as high as him?

And in their condition?

It was obvious that death was the only thing they would achieve, that was why many had lost hope.

Suddenly, he grinned devilishly.

"Yes, I’m the Unknown Darkness."

He played with the dagger in his hands as he looked at the people under his mercy, not that they were that important.

Even if they were at their strongest, there was no doubt in his mind that he wouldn’t be able to kill them quickly with the combination of Quick Evasive Steps and 30 Blade Strikes.

He was just trying to act the part.

A part that he was all too familiar with.

After all, he had built the reputation of the Unknown Darkness on.
