Chapter 149: Sword-Wise... (3)

The fireball was large and it emitted a great amount of heat, yet Jason did nothing to try dodging it.

The ball of flames crackled as it approached him, and it decreased in size. The crackling intensified as it soared through the air.

Jason jumped into the ball of fire, causing the fireball to dissipate quickly.

Finally, Jason crashed into it.

His whole body was engulfed by the large fireball, but it did little to stop him.

He burst out of it, his body visibly unscathed by the attack. His katana was gone, in its place he brandished his signature dagger, the metal flashing with a cold glint as he soared through the air.

’Now, I’ll go along with what I wanted to do originally.’

Jason thought.

The katana couldn’t slow him down now.

The Orc didn’t expect him to burst through the ball of fire, and as such its reaction time was slow.

Jason spun mid-air as he began his free fall.

’Breathing Technique.’

He raised his dagger into the air as he descended.

A flash of light.

The dagger struck the monster’s arm, cutting through its thick skin with deadly precision.

The monster’s thick skin was no match for his strength, he cut through it with little effort.

The orc boss left out a groan of pain.

Thick viscous blood poured out of the amputated limb as it fell from the sky, it was accompanied by Jason.

The monster bellowed, stumbling backward as it grabbed the place where its arm was supposed to be, only to touch air.

The human it was hoping to grab was gone.

Jason plunged the dagger deep into its calf to stop his fall, with it he threw himself onto its thick, large calf.

’I may have to be faster.’

The monster only had mana stat of stage 3, that was why it had no effect on Jason.

When he was within range the monster couldn’t use magic anymore, and he was going to abuse the advantage he had over this large creature.

"You wretched human."

The monster cursed out.

Jason took it as the right time to get off its calf.

He jumped off it and landed on the ground.

He watched as the Orc, the monster having already lost an eye and an arm, he was a lot better, save for the pain he felt all over his body.

But he could endure it, unlike the monster before him.

"You dare damage me."

It bellowed as it clutched its wound.

"You human!"

It yelled.

The ground shook from its voice itself.

’Doesn’t it know this is a fight?’ He stopped the breathing technique.

He wondered as he watched the monster, to him, it seemed like it was just throwing a tantrum.

In a fight there was a winner and a loser, both sides suffered wounds, but the loser often times suffered more than the winner.

Suddenly, it opened its mouth wide.

Jason poured strength into his legs, preparing to jump again.

But he stopped.

A guttural scream escaped the monster’s mouth.

It didn’t sound sane, it was almost like the sound of a wild beast. Except this one was much worse.

Jason tripped, he fell onto the ground and put his hands over his ears.

The ground rumbled, numerous rocks falling from above.

When the monster finally stopped its shout, the rumbling stopped.

"Where... where are my soldiers?"

It asked aloud.

Jason, however, didn’t hear its question.

Slowly, he removed his hands from his ears and proceeded to get up. But he was still shaken by the noise, his ears were ringing.

"Where are my soldiers?!"

The monster bellowed.

His ears were already shaken by the scream, and the loud shout from the monster only made it worse.

Jason covered his ears yet again.

But he noticed something peculiar as his hands covered them, it was something warm and wet trickling down his face.

He put his hand on it and brought it to his face.

It was crimson.

"Blood?!"

He murmured to himself, but he was unable to hear his own voice.

The same wet liquid trickled down his other ear.

"Am I bleeding?"

He questioned aloud.

But he couldn’t hear his own voice anymore, he was doubting if he was even speaking.

Jason looked up, he faced the Orc monster. Its mouth was moving, the ground was rumbling, but he heard no noise.

"I’m really deaf?!"

He couldn’t hear now.

The space ring on his finger glowed in a dim blue light as he applied pressure to it, he watched the Orc monster cautiously as he retrieved something from his space ring.

This was one of his few healing potions, over the span of eight months he had used most of his healing potions. There were barely any left.

He opened the bottle and quickly drank its contents.

But he barely felt any change to it.

’It will take sometime for it to heal.’

Jason thought.

’Before that, I need to kill this monster.’

He dodged a rock that fell from above and instantly began running.

The rumbling intensified as he ran.

’It should be coming after me now.’

Jason dropped the bottle onto the ground and immediately began pressuring his space ring.

The ring glowed as an object materialized at his grasp.

It only served to slow him down, but to make up for it he ran even faster.

The direction he was running to was the same as last time; his strategy was the same as last time, but this time he wasn’t going for its eyes.

He was going for its neck.

Jason leaped, and as soon as he was close to the wall he kicked off it.

"Die."

He muttered.

But neither he nor the orc heard his words.

He threw something at the Orc as his feet made contact with the wall.

At that moment, the boss monster also sent a fireball at him.

The weapon he had thrown, his katana, went through the ball of fire.

The monster had realized what he was doing, and it launched a fireball at him to interrupt him.

It stopped running.

However, contrary to its expectations, Jason did not come for its neck or its arms.

He came from below in a burst of speed.

Earlier he had thrown his katana at it, he had done so to substitute the use of a clone.

Jason flew low, he brandished his dagger in the air as he shot forward.

A deep gash on the monster’s knee.

Its blood splashed on his hair, painting it with a dark red.

The monster fell onto one of its knees as Jason rolled on the ground landing.

He skidded to a halt, stopping himself with his free hand.

’Quick Evasive Steps.’

And immediately ran in the direction of the monster.

With this skill, the world around him seemed to slow down.

Jason moved towards with the monster with deadly intent.

Before it could even turn around, he was already at its other knee.

He swung the dagger ruthlessly, the monster’s blood spilling out as a deep gash appeared on it.

The duration of Quick Evasive Steps elapsed.

Jason grabbed onto the cloth that the monster used as clothing and propelled himself up. At that moment, the monster fell onto its face.

After Jason had taken out both of its knees it couldn’t stand, it was this moment he had been waiting for.

To finally do what he wanted to do.

He fell from above, spinning to adjust his positioning. He fell with his dagger aimed at the ground.

His hearing was returning, slowly but surely.

The wind whistled in his ear as he fell, he could hear his heart pounding in its chest, he could hear the sound from the underground cavern.

The monster raised its hand, stopping his descent as he descended with its hand.

"So you know what I’m about to do?"

He questioned.

A manic grin formed at his lips.

He spun again in the air before landing on the hand.

For a moment, he did nothing.

’Breathing Technique.’

He adjusted his breathing, each breath he took was controlled.

His muscles convulsed as he took each breathe in.

’30 Blade Strikes.’

He slashed at its hands.

Then, he repeated.

He slashed repeatedly at the hand, cutting each and every one of its fingers off.

He fell again, landing on the monster’s nape.

Jason paused his movements.

"Human, don’t do this!"

The monster was desperate.

"I can give you anything you want."

Jason pretended not to hear.

"You thought you were the strongest in here, right?"

His manic grin grew.

"But you’re just a rank 1, I’m a rank 0. You can’t beat someone stronger than you just because you’re bigger, in fact, the bigger you are, the harder you fall."

He got into striking position.

"Know that I’m the strongest, even sword-wise...."

Jason paused.

The weight of his words settled and he found himself frowning.

He stroked his chin with his free hand, smearing it with the blood of the Orc boss.

The words that had come out of his mouth didn’t really seem right, he was sure sword-wise wasn’t a word.

And he didn’t even use swords, he used katanas and daggers.

"Sword-wise...?"

He said aloud.

"Maybe not, but dagger-wise I’m pretty sure."

With those words, he began slashing wildly at the monster.

With each slash, and every time the monster’s blood splashed onto him...

His grin grew wider.
