Chapter 147: Sword-Wise... (1)
...
In The A-Dungeon
A teenager with black hair, wearing full-on black clothes moved silently in a dark underground cave.
He stopped behind a pillar of rocks and peeked through it.
’It’s clear.’
He thought, his grip tightened on his weapon.
’Or, it’s about to be.’
Then, he moved.
The boy was a blur as he came out his cover and darted past the pillar, he swung his weapon in an instant.
He landed behind all three of the monster silently, none of them even taking note of his presence.
For a moment, there was nothing.
Then, simultaneously, all three heads shot into the air, each one of them being propelled by the blood.
The boy turned back to the monsters as the heads fell onto the ground.
’This should make it my fiftieth kill.’
He thought as he sheathed his katana.
The underground cavern he was in was the home of orc monsters; large muscular green monsters that seemed to be the evolution of hobgoblins.
They not only possessed thick skin but they were also very strong, it made them a hard monster to kill.
These were rank 2 monsters, monsters that had made the underground their home after a dungeon break. They had dug this place out and made it their home, even going out of their way to make torches to lighten the place.
But in the end, they were only rank 2 monsters.
In the face of an experienced swordsman...
’Swordsman or katanasman?’
The boy wondered as he turned, he proceeded to move again.
His feet made no noise as he ran.
’Terrible Cloning.’
Three identical clones of his appeared next to him, running side-by-side with him.
Without a word, three of them went their separate ways in three different tunnels. The boy took the one in the middle.
’Hopefully, they took this one.’
He didn’t want to retrace his steps, that was the last thing he wanted in this case.
Who knew, they might take a shortcut he didn’t know about and leave him behind to find them himself.
If he was any slower he would have to travel by himself.
His train of thought was interrupted by a noise.
A roar.
’A roar.’
He thought.
’Must have come from a monster.’
He decreased his pace.
’It looks like I’m on the right path.’
The roar sounded a little familiar to him; earlier when he discovered by one of the orcs, it let out a roar, thought it was quickly killed after and he managed to hide from them.
Although the roar he heard just now was quite different from the one he heard, there were still a little similarities.
’So they found the leader of the orcs.’
He mused.
As he got closer his pace decreased, until he was practically just strolling.
’Ah, I’m here.’
He thought as he saw an opening.
Without hesitation the boy went through the opening in the cave.
He entered a large area, one adorned with carvings on the wall, along with many carvings of Orc’s faces on it.
’For rank 2 monsters, they’re pretty smart.’
He mused, ignoring all the noise from the ensuing battle.
’Smart enough to create torches.’
’Obviously not average barbarian monsters.’
He thought back to an incident in his past.
A hobgoblin chief whom had used summoning magic and directly summoned the sub-boss of a dungeon.
Perhaps the leader of the orcs was the same.
Finally, he gazed at the ensuing battle.
It was actually Asahi fighting the monster; it was a 10 meter tall orc with green skin, though it was wearing clothing that could be called rags.
Asahi wore a light fitting red armor that covered most of his body, they weren’t too heavy and as such barely restricted his movements.
He was "fighting" the large orc.
[Name: None
Age: 10
Physical – Late Stage 3
Mental – Mid Stage 2
Mana – Late Stage 4
Skills:]
’It’s a rank 1.’
He mused.
’With the mana stat it would classify as a rank 0, but right now it’s just a rank 1.’
And it was a rank 1 that Asahi could no doubt beat.
He casually dodged the fireballs that were sent at him, doing so with the grace of an athlete.
Jason turned back to the entrance.
’My clones should be dealing with the other orcs.’
He mused.
Despite the ensuing battle there weren’t any monsters rushing in after hearing the noise, Jason’s clones were fighting the other orcs present in the underground cavern.
’I should watch.’
He turned back to the battle.
Asahi leaped forward, then he performed a back flip mid-air with wind magic, barely dodging a fireball by the Orc leader.
His lungs expanded as he took a deep breath, and the mana inside him was at its highest.
"Release!"
He yelled, at that moment he sounded like the wind itself.
He let forth a burst of hot air.
It completely enveloped the Orc leader whole.
It yelled out in pain, screaming out something incomprehensible.
’It’s skin is melting.’
Asahi was using his "release".
Particularly, the one that let out hot air from his mouth. He had been practicing it for a while, and he had only gotten better at it.
The Orc leader tried to use mana to protect itself, but its effort proved futile as even that was unable to stop the heat.
Slowly, it’s skin deformed.
Suddenly, Asahi stopped, using wind magic for another step in the air.
He landed on the ground and began running.
The space ring, one that he had procured from someone months ago, glowed in a dim blue light.
He leaped once again, but this time the height wasn’t as high.
He swung his broadsword clumsily, but it still managed to do the job.
As he landed, the head of the Orc lord fell onto the ground.
It was followed by scarlet red liquid spraying out of the stump and hitting the ground above them.
’It did have tough skin.’
Compared to other monsters he had seen that melted into a puddle when his release was used, the Orc lord’s skin was quite resistant.
He watched Asahi store the broadsword back in the space ring.
"Sean."
He called out to the boy.
’Is he stupid or something?’
Jason wondered but still approached him.
Last time he checked his name was Jason Hachiman, not Sean.
"Oh, you aren’t Sean."
Jason ignored him.
"Where are the others?"
Jason questioned as he approached him.
Asahi seemed to be oblivious to the fact that he was the only one here.
"They’re right-"
He stopped himself from continuing.
It finally occurred to him that while he was toying with the monster they had left.
"When did you start fighting it?"
Jason questioned.
"A few minutes ago."
He answered.
"Good."
’That means that they haven’t left the underground.’
It wasn’t the first time he had been left behind, it started a few months ago when he slept in. When he awoke he was surprised to see himself all alone, the only thing they had left for him was a roughly drawn map.
Asahi too, he was sometimes unlucky enough to get the same treatment.
Today just happened to be one of those days that he slept late.
Except, this time they were close to the Hachiman clan main residence.
Jason didn’t want to miss it, he had been working up to this moment for eight months.
"Let’s go."
Without a second word, he began running to the only exit he could see.
Asahi was a second slow to respond.
’My clones should deal with the remaining orcs behind, so they won’t follow us.’
The real problem were the ones in front.
When Sean, Kira and Lyra moved, they never alerted anyone. While Jason could move stealthily and quickly, he unfortunately made his presence known anytime he was around.
His presence suppressed the mana in the environment, making it harder for people to use mana, but it also alerted people of his presence.
For this reason, he was forced to do many things he would normally wouldn’t even try.
Jason could hear footsteps nearby.
’His fight was too noisy.’
Before they reached the entrance they were stopped by orcs. There were only five and it wouldn’t take much to deal with them, but it did have a meaning...
"They heard the noise of your fight."
Jason said as he increased his pace.
In a blur of motion he unsheathed his katana.
He disappeared from his initial position, the only thing left there was a brief afterimage.
He appeared behind them without losing momentum and continued his run.
A second later, blood spurted out of headless corpses as they fell onto the ground.
"They’ll all be coming at us.’
Jason said to Asahi whom was next to him.
"It isn’t my fault."
He retorted as they moved.
"Of course it isn’t."
Jason stored his katana in his space ring.
Right now, it would only be disadvantageous to carry it.
He used the katana so he could kill silently and efficiently, but now there was no need to kill silently.
He could be as loud as he wanted.
"They’re many ahead."
Asahi said.
"Do you think I’m blind?"
Jason questioned.
While he was next to Jason, his capabilities were weakened.
Jason was the one that was expected to kill the monsters.
’We’ll soon leave here.’
Jason’s fingers formed a gun.
*Bang
*Bang
He shot at the two monsters in front of them, the shots went through their heads and killed them instantly.
Jason deftly used the first one as a boost to propel himself forward.
*Bang
*Bang
He shot again at the other orcs.
One went into the abdomen of an orc, the other one went into the head but didn’t come out.
’Damn it.’
This skill of his, his talent...
Was just one of the talents he had acquired in his time in this place.
