Chapter 141: Crap Advice
Chapter 141: Crap Advice
Jason spared the man a final glance.
The man was seemingly staring his soul out of him, his eyes staring through him.
He turned away and began running.
The man was left sprawled on the ground outside the settlement, and the veil of the settlement was left open.
If a monster passed by and saw him in this condition, it would undeniably eat him.
He had considered killing the man himself, because if he was left alive he could report to them.
But then, a thought had emerged in him. A thought that prompted him to spare his life.
’Wouldn’t it be nice if my name appeared in the bingo book?’
It was a random thought.
But it was that random thought that the man who had lost his wife survived.
With that single thought he had decided to spare the man, he had an inkling of what Kira meant by clean-up but chose to do his own stuff.
After all, the guy had abandoned him and left him to deal with his mess.
He moved quickly.
In a flash the settlement was left behind, the only reminder that he had visited it was his near-perfect memory and the katana that he had managed to buy.
The others were ahead of him, he could see them although not clearly. There was barely any light in the night.
’Still, it would be nice if I could change history.’
Jason mused.
He also wanted to see if his actions could change the course of history.
Ezra’s time in the A-dungeon didn’t matter because he failed horribly against the dungeon boss, but he survived because he was spared.
If he managed to beat the dungeon boss, he wondered if he would go down in the history books. Or if he would be removed from them.
Either way, it was a nice source of entertainment for the time being.
His eyes returned to the group in front of him, he was slowly closing the distance between them.
They all looked fine, all except Sean.
The boy seemed to be having a hard time keeping up with their pace, he was exerting himself past what he could take.
Even after weeks had passed he still hadn’t fully recovered.
And the effects were taking root here.
’He’s stubborn.’
Jason thought.
’Too stubborn.’
’Even after the Frost Maggots sapped him of all the flesh on his body and he was left as a bag of bones.’
Suddenly, Sean tripped.
Jason moved.
He wasn’t able to catch him, he extended his hand.
"Are you all right?"
Jason asked, extending his hand.
Sean looked at him with cold eyes.
Jason ignored him, instead he took a hold of his hand and helped the boy up. His legs wobbled slightly as he stood.
’He should stop trying to be defiant.’
"Give me the bags."
"No."
’He isn’t helping himself.’
In a blur of motion, Jason’s hands moved, he took both bags off his shoulder.
"Give me back."
"No."
He evaded before running off again.
’These bags aren’t even heavy.’
Jason thought.
The extra weight was barely anything.
’Or is it because I have physical stat at late stage 5.’
The bags felt light, a little too light. He had thought they were heavy when he took them from Sean, but it turned out that they were quite light.
’Maybe because he’s only a rank 4?’
But even a rank 4 shouldn’t have as much trouble carrying the bag.
’What’s inside the bag?’
He knew that they had been stolen from the settlement, even the bags had been taken.
But he didn’t know what was inside the bags.
He wanted to check.
Sean didn’t speak, nor did he call out for Jason to stop. He ran after him.
Jason looked back.
’Crazy?’
Jason questioned internally.
’Shouldn’t he be taking it easy?’
Ever since the incident with the maggots he and Sean hadn’t talked. Now, he was doing the boy a favor and he didn’t even get a thank you.
Jason didn’t bother increasing his speed, he waited for Sean to catch up to him.
"Give me back."
"No."
He watched as Sean made an attempt to grab one of the bags from him, only for him to fail.
"You aren’t in any condition to be carrying loads, if you’re only exerting yourself to take more than you can handle, and in the end you’ll only be a hindrance later on."
Jason said.
Sean pulled back his outstretched hands, he stopped trying to reach for the bag.
He seemed to mull over Jason’s words seriously as he moved.
Without a word he continued running.
Sean’s mind went back to the incident with the maggots where he was captured.
He was told to stop but he didn’t, in the end he only became a hindrance to the others.
’From the way he acted I thought I hit a nerve.’
Jason thought as he watched the silent transformation.
’A past experience? Probably.’
He hummed to himself before continuing, maintaining a steady pace as he continued on his way.
"How are you strong?"
Sean asked.
"Hmm."
Jason turned his head towards him. He didn’t register his last words.
"I didn’t hear you."
Sean let out a breath before speaking.
"How are you strong?"
Sean repeated the question.
’At least he asked.’
During the joint-clan tournament they had thought he was cheating to keep up with them by using a treasure.
In reality, he was merely relying on himself.
Just like they had been strengthened by mana, he had been strengthened by nature energy.
"Because I’m strong."
He answered.
’What kind of answer was that?’
He couldn’t help but question his own answer, unfortunately it was the only thing he could manage to think of the time.
"Or just train."
He quickly added.
He continued without waiting for Sean’s response.
"Train everyday, every night and every hour until you reach your limits."
That was the best answer he could think of.
But he wasn’t really being honest as all his life he only trained for 2 hours everyday.
He was telling someone to train every hour when he himself didn’t do that.
"That is..."
Sean began, but he paused as if mulling over his choice of words.
Jason increased his pace and left him behind.
"...Total ass."
Training everyday.
Training everyday wasn’t effective enough.
People were born with upper limiters, some had theirs as low as when they started, others had theirs a little higher. Only a few people had their upper limit at the top.
Telling someone to train everyday when there was already a limit set on their potential was foolish.
But it seemed the person he asked for advice didn’t know that.
By the time he had spoken, Jason had already gone past him.
The one that had given him the advice didn’t hear his words as he was far away.
"We should camp here."
They stopped at a large tree.
Night had fallen and visibility had dropped to zero.
There were no plans to create a ball of fire so they could continue, the only plan was to rest.
"Tomorrow, we’ll continue."
Nobody said anything as they all leaped onto their resting place; the tree would serve to protect them from monsters lurking on the ground.
Jason settled on the lowest branch of the tree, he dropped the bags next to his head as he laid down. Even though they were near him he didn’t use them as pillows.
’I wonder how Asahi is feeling.’
As the boy was a civilian he was the one who felt the most at what they had done at the settlement.
’He should be alright.’
’My biggest concern is how to increase the bounty on my head.’
He mused.
’Before I leave the dungeon, somewhere around the middle pages should suffice.’
He mused, as he watched the branch directly above his.
The sleep that he was hoping for didn’t come, he was wide awake with eyes that seemingly didn’t want to be closed.
He thought about the last few weeks he had spent in the dungeon.
Jason raised his shirt up and ran his fingers through his body.
’Its still there.’
The mark.
When the Ice bear monster had slashed him across his chest it had given him a scar, apparently that didn’t heal.
’A scar for life.’
That didn’t go well with him.
But then again it had already happened and he couldn’t take back time, he would have to live with it for the rest of his life.
Second life...
’I’ve lived for 14 years but no plot progression, the only major thing that has happened is me going into the A-dungeon and losing an eye.’
If anything, he wanted to begin the journey he had read, but the time it was starting hadn’t reached.
’Change as much things as possible.’
He thought, stretching a hand towards the sky.
’But first, I’ll have to live this first.’
And for that...
He would have to stick with Kira, the boy was the first person he had met after coming to the dungeon.
Jason would see where his choice would take him.
